Letter to the Editor: “I Received a Reiki Treatment Without Being Told it Was Happening!

I am writing to inform you of a deeply worrying experience I had.

After having chiropractic treatment for years, I decided to give osteopathy a try, as it seemed to be more gentle on the body. But at the end of the treatment, something strange happened. The practitioner held my head for about seven minutes or so. Up until this point, I figured it was all part of the therapy. But then I became concerned. I couldn’t work out what he was doing, as he was not massaging my neck nor did he seem to be applying any pressure. Then I heard him taking several deep breaths.

I am a Christian who has deeply researched into how New Age philosophy and occult practices are entering theology and the churches. I know about the dangers of meditation, yoga, spiritual formation, contemplative prayer, etc. But this threw me. Yes, I could have spoken up, but I had been taken by surprise and was somewhat confused. I just wasn’t sure what was going on. Then I began to pray to God for protection if anything weird was happening. Soon after this, he stopped.

My treatment had ended. When I got up, I felt incredibly relaxed, as if I was somehow medicated and floating. It felt wonderful. But I knew something wasn’t right. I asked him what he had done, and he was very evasive. Then I told him that I have studied into the New Age and want nothing to do with it or its healing practices. He mumbled that he was not interested in the New Age but that he could help heal my insomnia by applying traditional relaxation techniques to balance my energy centres.

When I walked out of his office, I noticed a small picture on the wall of his reception. It was the drawing of a person in the yoga position showing the seven chakras.

I told him I wouldn’t be back. I knew he had performed some kind of psychic healing on me, but it wasn’t until the bus ride home that it hit me – it must have been Reiki!

Clearly, this osteopath conducts this occult healing practice on all his patients without asking them or telling them. And I wonder how many others in the medical profession (modern or traditional) are secretly doing the same thing. I was furious. However, it has made me much wiser and more prepared in the future should this ever happen again.

But my deep concern is this. I have been a Christian for 31 years, but it is only in the last five years that I have learned about New Age concepts and how Christians are, in many cases, being unwittingly seduced by them. Christians who have had no experience [or understanding] with the New Age (such as myself, until fairly recently) are the most vulnerable, as it is, for them unchartered territory and not recognised for what it is. Had I had this experience prior to learning about the dangers of New Age spirituality saturating the Western World, I am sure I would have kept returning to this osteopath, thinking he was indeed helping me.

I don’t think osteopathy is the problem, rather it is practitioners, such as the one I had, who want to add new methods to their “science”, quite possibly in their genuine search to provide “better” healing.

Sometime back, I had read on your website about how Reiki is being introduced to patients in hospitals. Nevertheless, when it happened to me it took me completely by surprise.

I thank God for your ministry of discernment. I am now writing a letter warning this osteopath about the source and dangers of his psychic healing techniques. Maybe God can use my experience as a witness to him. I may even send him your website link.

Lighthouse Trails has now added Death of a Guru written by former Hindu Rabi Maharaj with Dave Hunt to our collection of important and needed boDeath of a Guruoks for the body of Christ. The book has been in print for many years and is published by Harvest House Publishers (we are glad that HH is still publishing some books that warn about spiritual deception). While Lighthouse Trails editors read Death of a Guru many years ago, it was brought to our attention again when Lighthouse Trails author Warren B. Smith made reference to the book in his own book “Another Jesus” Calling: How False Christs Are Entering the Church Through Contemplative Prayer.

The following description of Death of a Guru shows why this is a necessary book for today’s church in view of the contemplative prayer (i.e., spiritual formation) movement that has swept in:

Here is the section from “Another Jesus” Calling where Warren B. Smith warns about mystical meditation and references Death of a Guru:

Meditation and Contemplation

The New Age/New Spirituality has made great inroads into the church—particularly in the area of meditation and contemplative prayer. Despite grave warnings from many of us who came out of the New Age movement, the church remains extremely vulnerable to deceptive supernatural experiences that appear to come from God.

We knew from our own New Age involvement that powerful, seemingly “meant to be” spiritual experiences had often been used to draw us into the New Age and its various spiritual practices, which included meditation and contemplation. And we knew that the same seductive experiences, which had led us into the New Age, continued within our meditations and contemplations. Because our spiritual experiences felt so good, we just assumed that what we were experiencing was coming from God. Our spiritual practices soon became the primary connecting force that gave us “the feeling” we were on the right track. These daily meditations and contemplations served to reinforce our emerging New Age beliefs, and had the effect of leading us deeper and deeper into the teachings of the New Age/New Spirituality.

For most of us in the New Age, meditation was an integral part of daily life. Because it was so relaxing and felt so good, we, like Sarah Young and her readers, had no idea that our meditations and contemplations were opening us up to great deception. Looking back on it now, meditation was the major pipeline through which deceptive spirits impressed upon us their New Age thoughts and teachings. The spiritual “high” that often accompanied our meditations and contemplations even seemed to corroborate the teaching of the New Age that we were all “one” because God was “in” everyone and everything. In fact, in my very first meditation, I experienced a “mysterious sense of oneness” that I perceived to be my “divine connection” to that oneness. One of the daily lessons I contemplated from A Course in Miracles was: “Let me remember I am one with God.”1

Ironically, even biblical meditation can be manipulated into a form of New Age contemplative prayer. One of the clever ploys of our spiritual Adversary has been to repackage eastern/mystical New Age meditation as “Christian” meditation and contemplation. In his powerful book Death of a Guru: A Hindu Comes to Christ, former Hindu Rabrindranath R. Maharaj describes how even seemingly benign and relaxing forms of meditation and contemplation can be used by the spirit world to provide an experience of cosmic oneness:

“Though popularized in the West under many names, the aim of all Eastern meditation is to ‘realize’ one’s essential union with the Universe. It is the doorway to the ‘nothingness’ called nirvana. Generally sold as a ‘relaxation’ technique, meditation really aims at and ultimately leads to the surrender of oneself to mystical cosmic forces.”2

Islamic Terror Group Targets Christians in Bloody Attack on Kenyan University, Over 140 Dead

NAIROBI, Kenya – Over 140 Kenyan students were shot dead today as an Islamic terror group carried out a bloody attack aimed at Christians at a university in Nairobi.

“We sorted people out and released the Muslims,” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, the spokesman for the group Al-Shabaab, which took responsibility for the armed assault, announced. “There are many dead bodies of Christians inside the building. We are also holding many Christians alive.”

The incident occurred at Garissa University in the early morning hours on Thursday, where four masked gunman threw explosives at the main gate outside of the property, and then entered the building and began gunning students down. Reports state that shouts of “Allahu Akbar,” or “Allah is the greatest,” were heard as the attack was underway. Click here to continue reading.

From an Investigative Sergeant—Helping Sexually Abused Children: A Calling, A Ministry, and a Mission

I can’t help but think that Jesus weeps for those little ones who fall into the hands of child predators. I also believe Jesus weeps over the despair and hopelessness we experience as communities because of the crimes committed against our children. We know from the Bible that God hates the sin of adultery because it destroys families and communities (Malachi 2:14-16, 1 Corinthians 12:26). If this is true, can you imagine how much more God hates sexual abuse, considering the destruction it causes in the life of a child? As parents, as communities, and as churches, we must do everything we possibly can to fight this evil and eradicate it.

In December 2005, United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzales addressed 1500 local, state, and federal law enforcement officials at a conference in Washington D.C., stating that crimes against children were second only to terrorism on his agency’s agenda. While I would not argue with this prioritization, it seems to me that Satan desires us to stay preoccupied with our borders and threats from outside while he continues to quietly devour our children and destroy us as a nation from within. Through our own sexual deviate behavior and liberalism, Satan has been able to deploy the Internet to increase child abuse and exploitation to a pandemic level. Child predators are one of the most important components of his sinister scheme against fallen man. If we seriously reduce, or even eradicate, that component, we significantly hinder the forces of evil. Granted, the Bible teaches us that evil will not be eliminated from the world until Jesus’ return. However, until that happens we must continue to be proactive with this effort on behalf of our children.

If there is any chance of eradicating the epidemic of child molestation, we will need to fight this battle on the spiritual frontHer Reflection as well as the physical front. Christian parents should pray for their children daily. Churches and Bible-study groups should pray for each child they are connected to. Because the Bible tells us that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities (Ephesians 6:12), the spiritual aspect of this battle is more important than any other aspect. Jesus taught us to seek the kingdom of God first (Matthew 6:33). If we seek Him first, then we have His blessing and His power to do all things that He ordains for us to do. The Bible teaches that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (2 Corinthians 10:3, 4). As believers, we have a weapon that is more powerful than any earthly program alone. It would be foolish not to use it against an evil that is clearly spiritual in nature.

Please take note that this request for prayer does not come from a pastor, minister, church elder, deacon, or Bible teacher, but a cynical and calloused police detective who has made a living operating in the destructive wake of the Evil One and his minions. While humanists will tell us that good exists in every person, I have learned otherwise throughout my law enforcement career: I have learned that every person has the potential to do an enormous amount of evil. Consider these verses:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it. (Jeremiah 17:9)

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.(Mark 7: 20-23)

While prayer is the best action any person can take against the crime of child sexual abuse, God has equipped and called some of us into the battle that exists in the physical realm. We in the church body need to recognize the issues of child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect as a mission field that needs tending. Sexual abuse is a topic that most churches choose not to openly speak of or concern themselves with. It is the elephant in the room that no one wants to openly acknowledge and then address. Pastors, ministers, and other members within a church need to work together and appoint some leadership to minister to those families who are victimized by this crime. I understand that not every clergy member will be able to stomach this issue, just as all law enforcement officers cannot, but it is important for the clergy to appoint those who possess the spiritual fortitude to minister to those who fall victim.

Additionally, members of the clergy should recognize a profession dedicated to battling this evil as a worthwhile calling for the young adults in their flock to consider. God has blessed certain individuals with specific gifts that would make them very effective in dealing with one of the most difficult issues facing mankind. They should encourage those who appear to have these gifts to consider careers in law enforcement, social work, child protective work, counseling, forensic interviewing of reported child victims, forensic evidence investigation, and medical positions related to identifying and treating the injuries of abused children. All of these professions need competent, godly, and motivated people who are dedicated to seeking the truth in all reported cases of child abuse. This kind of work is not for the faint-hearted, nor is it for those who become overly emotional when discussing the topic of child sexual abuse. One must be passionate about this work without being overcome and hindered by such passion. I cannot think of a better group of people to recruit from than those in the Body of Christ. Attempting to enter this overwhelming battle without the rock-solid spiritual foundation of Jesus Christ would be similar to the young shepherd and future king, David, attempting to fight the giant warrior Goliath with the useless armor of King Saul, the defunct King of Israel.

I was raised as a Catholic and attended an all-boys Catholic high school. In spite of my moral religious upbringing, I lived outside of God’s will and was always in search of the true meaning of life. Even though I wasn’t walking with the Lord at that time, He still blessed me with a wonderful family and a successful career. He used me to expose many horrific crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice, in spite of my own wicked and selfish heart. It was my own exhaustive search for an answer to why people do such horrible things to each other that led me to read the Bible and begin to learn the answer to this haunting question. Under the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit, I gained both wisdom and comfort surrounding this difficult issue, which I once considered virtually unattainable.

Eventually I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, realizing I am saved only by His grace and not by my own works, efforts, or any man-made religion. I now attend a church that teaches directly from the Bible and relies on God’s Holy Spirit to teach us His Word.

I consider myself a member of the modern-day Roman guard (so to speak), working for a 21st century Rome and enforcing its laws. But since I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart and asked Him to forgive me of my sins, I am now a converted soldier who openly works for God, according to His will. After I started walking with the Lord approximately twelve years ago, I immediately thought He would desire me to retire from my police job and begin a new life of service, away from the filth of society and the ranks of the Roman guard, where sin and temptation run rampant. But every time I started preparing myself to make the separation, something would tug on my heart to not follow through with it.

Finally, I came to the realization that I had to surrender the issue to the Lord to decide and stop telling myself what I thought He wanted me to do. This was not easy for a person such as me, but by His grace, I was able to let go of it. The Lord eventually spoke to my heart after I prayed and waited on Him for several weeks and just focused on Him rather than on my future. I felt the Lord tell me in His quiet voice that He had blessed me with the gifts that made me successful in my profession, even before I was walking with Him. So why would He want me to quit the job He had appointed me to do now that I had accepted Him into my heart and daily life? In essence, I believed God was telling me to continue working in the same capacity, but to do it under His influence and direction, and watch how much more He would bless my efforts. Without any reservation, I can honestly say that God blessed me beyond belief since I accepted and embraced Him in my life and performed my job for the sole purpose of glorifying Him. I felt so privileged those many years I worked as an investigative police officer.

As a temple of the Holy Spirit, I came to view my job as a ministry. I know that God placed me in that role for a reason, so I looked to Him daily for guidance and strength. Despite the heart-wrenching challenges, God allowed me plenty of rest, always restoring me to face the next wave of evil and its destructive wake. Having investigated many horrible crimes over the years, I can say that nothing is more emotionally challenging than investigating a reported crime against a young child. However, I never felt a better sense of purpose than when working on behalf of a reported child victim. They are the helpless ones. I have always felt close to God when working one of these cases, even when I anguished over my inability to bring the perpetrator to justice. God has always provided me with an inner peace beyond my understanding that enabled me to be patient and have confidence in Him to unfold the truth in His own time.

Like the young King David, there comes a time when we must act on our faith in Christ and have the courage to step out in front of the rest of God’s army and take on the enemy that no one else desires to. I challenge all church leaders to answer the call in both the spiritual and physical realms. Clearing Up Confusion: Warren B. Smith NOT Sharing Platform with Rick Warren at Restoring All Things Conference

Lighthouse Trails received a call this week by a concerned reader who said he heard on his local Christian radio station that Warren Smith was going to be speaking with Rick Warren at an upcoming conference called Restoring All Things. The reader was understandably worried about this. We assured him that OUR Warren Smith (aka: Warren B. Smith) was not going to be speaking at a conference called Restoring All Things with Saddleback pastor, Rick Warren. We explained that there are two Warren Smiths who are both Christian writers.

The “other” Warren Smith who is going to be speaking with Rick Warren at the Restoring All Things conference is Warren Cole Smith. A few years ago, when it came to both men’s attention that there was another Warren Smith out there and that people were becoming confused, each decided to begin identifying himself with a middle name or initial. But in the case of this conference, at the time of this writing, there is no middle name for Warren Cole Smith on the Restoring All Things conference (see here).

Warren Cole Smith is vice president of World News Group (the publisher for World Magazine).  He wrote a book a few years ago titled A Lover’s Quarrel with the Evangelical Church, a book critiquing mega churches including Saddleback Church.

Warren B. Smith, a former New Age follower, is the author of several books including Deceived on Purpose: The New Age Implications of the Purpose Driven Church and “Another Jesus” Calling. He has been a strong and steady voice for many years now warning about the “new” spirituality that has entered the church.

Other speakers at the Restoring All Things conference include Jim Daly (president of now contemplative Focus on the Family), “new” spirituality leader Ed Stetzer, and John Stonestreet (works with Prison Fellowship and Chuck Colson Christian Center for Christian Worldview).

He preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection . . . And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:18, 30-31)


Apart from the great fact of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead we would have no gospel to preach. By "resurrection," we do not mean that our Lord's spirit continued to live after His body died but that He was actually raised from the dead by the glory of the Father and came forth from the tomb in the very same body that had been impaled on Calvary's cross. In that body, now glorified, He sits at God's right hand, and in that same body, He is coming again as the Judge of both living and dead—the saved and lost. This is what is emphasized for us in the seventeenth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles.

The entire passage, beginning with verse 16, is of tremendous interest, but I have no thought of attempting to explain it all, though I hope you will read it carefully at your leisure, if you are not thoroughly familiar with it, for it is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of a preacher's eloquence that we have anywhere in the Bible.

Paul appears here at his best, from the human standpoint, but he also speaks as a divinely inspired servant of Christ. Of Apollos, we read elsewhere that he was an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, and it is very evident from this sample sermon that Paul was a man of the same stamp; although on the other hand, he did not particularly cultivate what was simply rhetorical, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

But it was quite in keeping with his principle of being" made all things to all men," that when he stood on Mars' Hill, the very center of culture of the Greek world, he should meet those philosophers on their own ground.

PROUD, ATTIC PHILOSOPHERS
So far as culture was concerned, he was every whit their equal, combining a thorough acquaintance with their literature, history, and customs, with a deep knowledge of the Word of God to which they were strangers. Thus he gave them that day a new and arresting message such as they had never heard before, and possibly many were destined never to hear again.

Notice some of the circumstances. Paul was waiting in Athens for several of his fellow servants, who had returned to Thessalonica to find out how the newborn Christians there were getting along. As he wandered about the city, his spirit was deeply stirred, for he saw everywhere the evidences of idolatry. They worshipped everything in Athens; in fact an ancient philosopher once said, "In Athens it is easier to find a god than a man." There were images on every street corner, over every doorway, in every courtyard, found in every store, and every dwelling house. Turn where you would, you were confronted by them.

SIGNS OF PAGAN DARKNESS
Paul, as he walked those streets, knew that the things the Gentiles sacrificed were sacrificed to demons and not to God; he knew he was probably the only man in that city who had a knowledge of the true and living God and of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; and yet for the time being he saw no opportunity to give his message in a public way.

A Jewish synagogue, however, attracted his attention, and entering it, he claimed his right as a recognized teacher to speak, and there he presented the Gospel, disputing with the adherents of Judaism, and with proselytes who were doubtless weary of the unsatisfactory character of idolatrous rites and ceremonies, and had sought out this place of instruction in the law of Moses.

In the market place also he addressed himself to individuals, and sometimes little groups would gather about him to whom he proclaimed the wondrous story of God's grace in Christ Jesus to a lost world. Little by little he drew the attention of the people, who were always interested in that which seemed new and strange. So we need not be surprised that at last certain philosophers of the Epicureans and the Stoics became interested in him and his teaching.

THE EPICUREANS AND THE STOICS
These believed that man's supreme good is found in trying to please himself, that there is no use denying one's self; make the best of life by getting all the pleasure out of it you can, for you are going to be dead for a long time. We can hear the echo of this in the philosophy of so-called self-expression of our day.

The Stoics took the opposite view of life. They said: we are in the hands of a remorseless fate; we had nothing to say about coming into the world, and there is no telling what will happen when we leave it. Just grit your teeth, don't show the white feather, make up your mind that "what cannot be cured must be endured." Stoicism has come down through the ages as the synonym for patient endurance.

Some of these philosophers asked, "What will this babbler say?" To them he seemed to be setting forth new gods. New gods in Athens! They had searched the world to find all of them. They had shrines for the gods of Babylon, Phoenicia, Greece, Egypt, and Rome. They worshipped them all, and yet this man seemed to know something about some new ones, because Paul preached "Jesus and the resurrection." They thought that Anastasis (resurrection) was yet another god! They had the god of peace, the god of victory, the god of justice, the god of love—all these different deified human attributes; and now they thought, "This man seems to have two new gods, one called Jesus and the other, Resurrection. We would like to hear more about them." And they took him up to Mars' Hill, or the Areopagus. This overlooked Athens, and was where the philosophers met for discussion. So they invited Paul to come up there and expound his new doctrines. Led by them, he wended his way to the meeting -place above, and at once began to proclaim the message that he had been yearning to give them for so long.
He took his text from an inscription he had seen on one of their altars, and said, as it were, "I see you are a very religious people. You seem to worship every god known to the Greeks and all other nations, and as I walked about I noticed an altar with an unusual inscription."

"TO THE UNKNOWN GOD!"
It was evident that these Athenians feared lest they might be neglecting some god whose name had not been communicated to them, and so they set up the altar that had attracted Paul's attention.

What a splendid text it made! And so Paul said, "Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you." In other words, "I am here to tell you who the unknown God is." How can anyone make known the unknown? God has made Himself known in the person of His blessed Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul was there, indeed, to present Jesus and the resurrection, and let me say that no man preaches the Gospel unless he does preach Jesus and the resurrection.

There is no Gospel for guilty sinners apart from Christ, for the Gospel is God's message about His blessed Son. The Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed; it is good news to be believed. And that good news concerns the Lord Jesus Christ, Who came from the glory that He had with the Father from all eternity down to the sorrow and anguish of the cross of Calvary where He bared His breast that the sword of divine justice might be sheathed in His heart. He took our place and endured what we deserved. But that alone would not be the Gospel; there is something more needed.

Paul preached: JESUS, AND—And what? "And the resurrection." Wherever the disciples went, they preached that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. The essence of their message was that He "was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification" (Romans 4:25).

So Paul preached Jesus and the resurrection, and we today proclaim the same, and we tell you in His Name, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:9-10).

THE CREATOR AND THE CREATED
Notice how Paul prepared the ground for his message. First of all, they were reminded that the Creator must be greater than that which is created, and Paul directed their attention to the visible universe. It was very evident that the God Who made all things could not be confined in one of their temples. He says, "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing he is Lord of Heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things." He is not the God of one nation, but of all nations, and we are really one people, for He "hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and bounds of their habitation." He has put upon men the responsibility to know Him, for He is not far from any one of us.

There is no man anywhere who will dare say in the day of judgment, "I wanted to find God and could not," for
"Closer is He than breathing, Nearer than hands and feet." He is so close that if men will feel after Him, will stretch up empty hands towards Him, they will find His great strong hands reaching down to lay hold of them. God will never permit it to be said that any man honestly sought the way of life and failed to find it, that any man really wanted to be saved, and cried to God unheard.

This answers a question that troubles a good many people. I am often asked: WHAT ABOUT THE HEATHEN?
They have never heard the Gospel. What of them? Are they going to be damned because they have never heard? No matter where a heathen man may be today, if he wants to know God and honestly reaches out after Him, God will make Himself responsible to give that man light enough to be saved, for He is not far from any one of us. God has commanded men "that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him."

This is the only place in the New Testament where we get the word "feel." I have often urged people to trust the Lord Jesus and have told them how He died for them, bore their sins on the cross, and that if they will believe on Him, He has given His own Word that "whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." And then they say, "Well, I do believe, but I don't feel any different." That has nothing to do with it. The word feel is not a Christian word at all. The only place it occurs in the New Testament is here where Paul is speaking of the heathen. But you have an open Bible; you do not need to feel after God. What you need to do is to believe the testimony that He has given, and then you will be saved. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (Acts 16:31). This is the word of the living GOD given through His servants of old.

"FEEL" AND "FEELING"
I said that the word feel is found only once in the New Testament, but the word feeling is found twice: once in Ephesians 4:19, where it speaks of certain Gentiles, and says, "Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness"; and again in Hebrews 4:15, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities." Apart from these three instances we do not find the words feeling or feel used in the New Testament. The moment you believe in the Lord Jesus, the moment you trust in Him you pass out of death into life, out of condemnation into justification before the throne of God.

In John 5:24, Jesus says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."

THE FIVE DIVISIONS OF JOHN 5:24
1."HE THAT HEARETH MY WORD." Face this: be honest with your own heart. Have you heard the Word of the Son of GOD? Have you heard Him speaking to you through this blessed Book?

2."AND BELIEVETH HIM THAT SENT ME." Do you in your heart believe that God sent the Lord Jesus Christ to be the sinner's Savior, to die for you on the cross, to rise from the dead for your justification?

3."HATH EVERLASTING LIFE." When do you get it? When you die? No, you get it now, from the moment you believe, from the moment you hear the Word of the Son of God, and receive and confess Him as the One whom the Father sent into the world to be the sinner's Saviour. The trouble today is that people are stumbling over its very simplicity.

I heard of a man who wanted to be saved, and he was told to do penance for sin by putting hard dried peas in his shoes and walking on them so many hours a day. This poor man did this and limped around the streets, trying to make atonement. It would have done him just as much good if he had boiled the peas first.

But people are willing to do all kinds of hard things. They are like Naaman who, when the prophet commanded, "Go and wash in Jordan seven times," said, "That is too easy a way." But he had a wise old servant who suggest, "If the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it?" Why, of course he would. "How much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?" If you had to give a great deal of money, say a great many prayers, make long pilgrimages, do vast numbers of charitable deeds in order to get life eternal, how many of you would be willing to do these things? How much more when He saith to thee, "Believe and live!"

4. "SHALL NOT COME INTO CONDEMNATION." Think of it! Is that not good news? Not a word about purgatory, not a word about confession to a priest, not a word about sacramental observances, not a word about penance; but here and now, the moment you put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, your sins are gone and you will never come into judgment, but you have everlasting life. It is all for you. That is the gospel which Paul preached. And notice the next point:

5. "IS PASSED FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE." It is a settled, complete salvation, giving a new standing before God to the believing sinner. Observe the threefold link with resurrection:

a. Resurrection and Repentance
But what if men do not accept it? Then there is the judgment. He says that God has been very gracious with the heathen: "The times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent." Repent means to change your mind completely, to have a new attitude. You had an idea that you could save yourself by your good works, but you change your mind and now admit that you cannot do a thing to save yourself, but that Christ must do it all. That is repentance— a change of attitude toward God. Instead of trying to do anything to save yourself, let the Lord Jesus do it all.

God "commandeth all men everywhere to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained." God is going to judge the world in righteousness, but your case can be settled out of court, and settled today, so that you need never think of coming into judgment. But if you reject Christ, some day you must give account before His judgment throne.

b. Resurrection and Assurance
"Whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead." The resurrection of the body of our Lord Jesus Christ is the ground of our assurance that we shall live again in our resurrected bodies. He says, "Because I live, ye shall live also." We are told that "As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." This does not mean that all men will be saved, but that the bodies of all men will be raised from the dead. Thus God has given assurance to all men of a life after death in that He raised the body of Christ from the grave. In the second place, He has given assurance unto all men that the sin question is settled in the death of Christ, by raising His body from the dead.

Here is an innocent man who has gone to prison for the crime of another. He knew the other man was guilty, but he knew, too, that in order to prove his own innocence he would have to expose his friend; and so he hears the sentence of the judge, sending him to prison for one year. What must be the feeling of the other man outside? He says, "I have sent that man there; I deserved to go, but he is there in my place." Perhaps he goes to see him and the man says, "I took your place voluntarily, and I am quite content; you let me endure it." The other roams the streets and says, "I wonder how long he will be content to remain there; I wonder how long before he tells the whole story." But by and by a year has passed, and walking down the street one day, he sees the one who went to prison for him. He rushes up and says, "What does this mean?"

"It means," is the reply, "that you have nothing to fear now. The sentence has been endured."

So our blessed Lord bore on the Tree the sentence for us, and now we who were once guilty sinners are free. " Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more." The resurrection is the proof that the sin question has been settled, that God is satisfied. "He hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead."

c. Resurrection and Reckoning
In the third place, we have assurance in the resurrection of Jesus Christ that some day all men are going to give account to Him. This will be when He sits upon the great white throne. Think of giving account of your sins to Him after all He has done to save you from them!

Notice the threefold response from Paul's message had that day. "When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter . . . . Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed." I wonder if there are not people manifesting these three different attitudes toward the message today!

THREE RESPONSES TO THE GOSPEL
Some mock, some ridicule, some say, "Oh, we cannot believe this message about Jesus and the resurrection; we cannot accept it. We do not see how He could die for sinners and rise again, and how men can be saved through believing on Him." God pity you if you are turning this message down. Some day He will turn you down, for He says in His Word, "Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; but ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh" (Proverbs 1:24- 26). God grant that you may not at last be exposed to such a doom. Do not turn it down, do not go away with a cold, careless sneer and say, "It is nothing to me."

The second class said, "We will hear thee again of this matter." They are the procrastinators. You may not be mocking; possibly you would not sneer at the Gospel message; you fully intend to be saved some day, but you are saying, "I will hear you again; I am not ready to close with Christ today. There is so much to occupy my heart and mind these days; some other time. Let me alone for the present. Sometime I will give attention to these things."

Remember the old saying, "Procrastination is the thief of time." There is a Spanish proverb which says, "The road of by and by leads to the town of never." How many have taken that road, have said, "By and by, some other day," and have gone on and on, until at last they have reached the other world, hopelessly lost, and that forever!

The third class, " Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed." What a blessed testimony! God has recorded the names of two of them, one man and one woman, Dionysius and Damaris, who accepted the message proclaimed that day.

Men have an idea that what sinners need is more culture, more refinement; but if polite culture could have saved the world, Greece would have been saved long ago. But Greece went all to pieces in spite of its culture. It was the gospel of the grace of God that saved the ancient world from ruin. And it is the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ that saves men today. I bring before you these two examples, Dionysius and Damaris, and I beg you to follow them as they followed Christ; believe the message, and go on rejoicing in Him, who was raised from the dead, never to die again. Hear what He says in Revelation 1:18—"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore."

PLEASE PRAY FOR CARYL MATRISCIANA’S CRITICAL SITUATION

She no sooner began to recover from the accident when she was diagnosed with breast cancer that by the time detected had spread into her lymph nodes. And now, last week, she was admitted to the hospital for  pneumonia. All of this has come on the heels of her finishing with her Wide is the Gate series, a film set that exposes the worst deceptions taking place in the church today: contemplative, emerging, replacement theology, and the NAR (New Apostolic Reformation).

We ask you to please pray for Caryl that she may once again walk in health and wholeness.

The following is an April 4th post on Facebook from The Berean Call:

We have a special prayer request from our dear friend Caryl Matrisciana. Caryl has been going through a serious testing time in the area of her health, and she …would appreciate your prayers. Many of you knew that she was involved in a very serious bicycle accident several months ago, and spent a good amount of time in the hospital recovering from major injuries.

She has since found out that she has invasive breast cancer that will most likely require surgery very soon. Upon learning of this diagnosis, she began a rigorous program of careful eating and use of supplements to strengthen her immune system. She also scheduled a necessary knee surgery (fallout from her accident). That has been completed, and just as she was healing up from it, she fell seriously ill with pneumonia and has been in the hospital since Monday. The pneumonia doesn’t seem to be responding well to antibiotics, and they aren’t sure why.

She has a wonderful team of doctors and nurses, many specialists, and others who are giving her lots of tender care and attention. They would like to perform a PET scan prior to her upcoming breast surgery, but they want her lungs to be cleared up first.

Please pray for our dear friend! She said that she is a bit “down” over this but not defeated. She has been very aware of the hand of the Lord in every aspect of these injuries and illnesses, and praises Him for all of the great care that she has been given. She also recognizes that we are all subject to the arrows of the enemy and covets your prayers in that regard. Thank you all so much.

Despite proclamations about the love and power of Christ, when all is said and done, the International House of Prayer offers onsite Alcoholics Anonymous, Sexaholics Anonymous, and Codependents Anonymous meetings to those who are in bondage.[1]

All churches and organizations associated with the New Apostolic Reformation are in error–but some far more than others.

IHOP-KC has even had its own “Twelve Steps Program Leader.” [2]

The 12 Step religion is the broad way Christ warns about. According to the A.A. Big Book, which is essentially the A.A. “Bible”:

We found that God does not make too hard terms with those who seek Him. To us, the Realm of the Spirit is broad, roomy, all inclusive; never exclusive or forbidding to those who earnestly seek. It is open, we believe, to all men. When, therefore, we speak to you of God, we mean your own conception of God.” (pg.46-47) (bold and italics mine)

Christ declares the opposite:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. (Matthew 7:13)

Equally disturbing, but less surprising, is the first thing offered to addicts on the IHOP-KC pastoral care Resource Page: Addiction & Grace, a book purporting to provide a “hopeful guide to freedom based on contemplative spirituality.”[3]

Contemplative spirituality?

According to gotquestions.org, “Contemplative spirituality is an extremely dangerous practice for any person who desires to live a biblical, God-centered life.”[4]

Homosexuality was a biblical issue long before it became a political one. This booklet answers six important questions about man’s existence and whether or not a God of perfect love exists. Are we only here by chance governed by an amoral “spirit of the universe”? Could it be there is a moral God who has set moral boundaries for our good—a God who loves us enough to literally save us from ourselves?

ONE: What about my Unmet Needs?
There is an Eat-Drink-And-Be-Merry-For-Tomorrow-We-Die party going strong. It is hosted by the famous “I-Have-Needs” with the popular “Get-Your-Needs-Met-Here” to greet you at the door. “Hate-The-Law” is dancing the night away with “New-Christ-Consciousness.” “Doubt-The-Bible” has the crowded room in the palm of his hand. No one wants him to leave, but he has had so much to drink he staggers, and “Easy-Way-Out” has to show him to the door. Morning comes, and the place is still packed with people who all have needs at the Eat-Drink-And-Be-Merry-For-Tomorrow-We-Die party.

Married people who cheat have needs. Drug addicts have needs. Murderers have needs. Pedophiles and rapists have needs . . . What is to stop any of us from meeting our needs as we see fit? Who cares about the idea of rebelling against a moral God or hurting another human being in order to meet our (selfish) needs? When living a pure life seems too hard, what does it matter if we take the easy way out of pain?

The Greeks had homosexual and heterosexual orgies as a spiritual offering to their pagan gods. Who is to say they were wrong? Hitler believed God was on his side as he practiced occult spirituality. Can we know for sure he was deceived?

When we feel the need to live a way the Bible forbids, it is argued that we can excuse ourselves by flippantly reasoning, The Bible must not be true in this particular area of my temptation because it seems impossible for me to overcome. It’s too hard to live the way the Bible says is “right” when it comes to who I am, so I’ll judge the Bible instead of letting it judge me! But, is this really a plausible argument against the veracity of the Bible? It certainly suited Hitler and the Greeks.

When we become addicted and can’t stop a behavior, is it just a coincidence that the Bible warns that sin can own us as slaves? We blame God when He does not take desires away in our timing, on our terms, as if God is meant to be a servant to us instead of the other way around. God, who is the only moral Lawgiver, offers a redemptive plan for mankind in His love, but the freedom, joy and confidence He offers is contingent on surrender to and trust in Him, which often means self-denial in favor of God’s will.

The creed of Satanism teaches: “Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.” In other words, do whatever seems right in your own eyes. In stark contrast, Jesus taught:

Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. (Matthew 16:24-25)

TWO: Do As Thou Wilt?
The creed of Satanism is “Do as thou wilt”—do whatever you want with only your conscience as your guide. Have you been believing in Satanism without even knowing it?

Do the following quotes from Satanism describe your beliefs?

“It is a popular misconception that the Satanist does not believe in God. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. (Revelation 21:7-8)

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator . . . For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness . . .who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1: 24-29, 32)

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)

Living however we want in immorality is Satan’s way. Denying ourselves and living in purity, strengthened by His grace, is God’s way. Through the Bible, we can know the God who is far more than an impersonal spirit in the universe—the God who defeated Satan on the Cross.

THREE: What About Hate Crimes?
Violent or hate crimes against homosexuals are wrong without a doubt, but how about hate crimes toward Jesus?

Jesus warned that people would perish without repenting (i.e., turning away from their sinful lives and turning to Him in faith). If you are a practicing homosexual and Jesus Himself were here to tell you straight to your face as a gay person that you must repent of your sin and humbly turn to Him to find new life for your soul, would you call Him a “bigot”? Would you commit a hate crime against Him like the people who nailed Him to the Cross?

When anyone mocks a Christian for living a chaste life, according to the Bible, they are mocking God. Some Christians are discriminated against for believing the Bible as God’s Word, no matter how loving they are toward those who disagree. The Bible says that “whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus promises this, and He saves that person forever as His own. And He calls those who belong to Him His “Bride.” It hurts Jesus when a Christian is persecuted for believing in Him and the Bible.

Would you bully Jesus for telling you that you must leave your sin and pick up your cross to follow Him? Would you bully Jesus if He Himself convinced you that you were created for purity (see 1 Timothy 4:12). Would you commit a hate crime toward a Christian for telling you such a message in love?

If Jesus convinced you that God did not make anyone for homosexuality, would you say pejorative things about the Bible and hate God for His hatred of your sin? If you lived in the time of Jesus with His definition of sin, judgment, wrath, freedom, righteousness and love, would you have been among those in the crowd shouting, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” because He convicts of sin and you “hate” such a conviction? Are you the person described in Hebrews to again crucify to yourself the Son of God and put Him to open shame? (Hebrews 6:4-6).

Will you have an open mind allowing yourself to see Jesus for who He truly is? Can you “accept Him as He is”? Jesus referenced Sodom and Gomorrah, and it was not with a compliment. He said Sodom and Gomorrah were reserved for a day of judgment in eternal Hell (Matthew 10:15, 2 Peter 2:6). This is what God said. Do you hate Him for that?

When Saul was persecuting Christians, Jesus appeared to him and said:

Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. (Acts 26:14-15)

What if God never made you for the purpose of same-sex attraction, and homosexuality was never meant to define you as a human being made in God’s image? Would you bully Jesus for that? The Jesus of the Bible warned that all people must “repent” or “perish”—news worthy of a hate crime that nailed Him to the Cross.

FOUR: Why Believe The Bible?
When a person claims there is no absolute truth, it begs the question, “Is that true?” There is no truth if absolute truth does not exist. The gay person may sing along to Lady Gaga, “I was born this way,” but how do we know that is true? Is truth only based on feelings? The Islamic terrorists felt they were pleasing Allah when they attacked the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. They felt they were heading to a heaven of celestial sex with virgins as a result, but was reality based on their feelings? When Jerry Sandusky picked underprivileged children to molest and made them “feel” special before sexually abusing them at Penn State, were the children safe to trust their feelings with such a “friend”? How do we measure our worth and a true standard for living when the human conscience can be seared and feelings can be deceiving?

If the Bible is not true and holy, what is? If everyone is good, as New Age spirituality teaches, how do we explain crimes against humanity such as the genocide by Hitler against the Jews, the terror attacks of September 11th, or the “Batman Massacre” in Aurora, Colorado? Is justice for the inequalities and injustices in the world left only to chance? Are we all here by chance? Does the pedophile love his victims, just because he claims to love them while sexually abusing them? What is love? When John Wycliffe was burned at the stake for translating the Bible to the English language, was his death in vain for some silly made-up stories? How can we know we can trust the Bible?

There is no other book like the Bible. It is actually sixty-six books, and all with the same message, written over a span of fifteen hundred years by more than forty different authors from kings to fishermen. The Bible offers a salvation not based on works. What man would make up such a thing to deem himself so powerless with no capability of getting to heaven on his own merits?

Consider the Dead Sea Scrolls, which prove the Bible has stayed intact with the same message as in the earliest manuscripts. No other book has as many early manuscripts that match.

Then, there is the resurrection of Jesus. Roman guards were assigned to His tomb, yet His body still left it. Secular historians like Josephus report that Jesus appeared to over five hundred witnesses after He was resurrected from the dead, supporting the Bible’s account.

Jesus would either have had to be crazy or a downright liar for the claims He made if He was not God in the flesh. He could have never been a “good prophet” if He had claimed to be the only Savior by fraud.

Historically, Jesus fulfilled over three hundred prophecies from the Old Testament to the New Testament.

The most profound reason of all that people don’t believe in Jesus is because they love their sin and are in rebellion against a holy God. The Bible teaches that a fool has said in his heart there is no God (Psalm 14:1), not a highly educated scientist or professor—a fool. The guilty conscience of a fool is just one more thing to prove the Bible is true.

FIVE: Is There a Gay Gene?

Geneticists, anthropologists, developmental psychologists, sociologists, endocrinologists, neuroscientists, medical researchers into gender, and twin study researchers are in broad agreement about the role of genetics in homosexuality. Genes don’t make you do it. There is no genetic determinism, and genetic influence at most is minor.1

Below is a summary taken from Dr. Neil E. Whitehead’s book My Genes Made Me Do It!—a Scientific Look at Sexual Orientation.2 Dr. Whitehead has done twenty years of scientific research into homosexuality. His research covers more than 10,000 scientific papers and publications from all sides of the debate.

Genes:Twin Studies
These very complex comparisons of identical twins and non-identical twins definitively rule out genetic determinism. Identical twins with identical genes are about 11-14% concordant for SSA [same-sex attraction]. If homosexuality were “genetic,” identical co-twins of homosexual men and women would also be homosexual 100% of the time. In classic twin studies the genetic fraction is less than 23% for men and 37% for women and may be as low as 10%. Twin studies continue to find steadily lower genetic fractions for homosexuality as methodology improves and samples become larger. Everyone has at least a 10% genetic factor influence in his or her thinking and behavior—simply because without genes there can be no human activity or behavior of any kind. Twin studies show that individualistic reactions to chance events (in which one identical twin reacts differently from the other) are by far the strongest contributors to homosexuality. In other words, randomness is a strong factor.

To Consider:

A scan of the whole genome [genetic material] has not found any homosexual genes, unlike the case for schizophrenia (which has still only identified 4 genes linked to 3% of schizophrenia.)

From an understanding of gene structure and function there are no plausible means by which genes could dictate SSA (or other behaviors) in a person.

No genetically determined human behavior has yet been found. The most closely genetically-related behavior yet discovered (mono-amine oxidase deficiency leading to aggression) has shown itself remarkably responsive to counseling.

A genetically dominated SSA caused by a cluster of genes could not suddenly appear and disappear in families, as it does. It would persist through every generation for many generations. It is genetically implausible that many “heterosexual” genes could switch off at the same time.

The human race shares most of its genes—something between 99.7% and 99.9%. That means all ethnic groups will have most of them. This has three implications.

If homosexuality is genetically dictated, homosexual practices will be identical or very similar in all cultures. But the enormous range and diversity of homosexual practice and customs in different cultures (and within cultures) argues against this.

There would be a similar percentage of homosexuality in all cultures. But homosexuality has been unknown in some cultures and mandatory in others.

Changes in homosexual practice and behavior in different cultures would take place very slowly, over many centuries. But this is not what history shows. The decline of whole models (culturally specific expressions) of homosexuality within a century; the relatively sudden (in genetic terms) emergence of the present Western model over a couple of centuries; and abrupt changes of practice within an ethnic group, even over a single generation, are not consistent with anything genetic.

The occurrence of SSA in the population is too frequent to be caused by a faulty pre-natal developmental process, so it is not innate in that sense either. This includes epigenetic processes, i.e. influences of the environment on genetic expression.

If SSA were genetically determined, and led to same-sex contact only, it would have bred itself out of the population in only several generations. It would not exist today.

First attractions (both SSA and OSA [opposite-sex attraction]) occur on average at age 10 and are rarely “earliest memories,” meaning attraction is mostly socially induced. The spread of ages of first attraction is very large, very different from the small spread of ages for the genetically pre-programmed event, puberty.

Hormones
There have been many studies—none of which has shown any convincing strong relationship between homosexuality and exposure to pre-natal hormones, although several have shown very weak links between pre-natal hormone exposure and infant play. Studies examining effects of very high doses of female hormones to pregnant mothers show no effect on males and a dubious effect on women. Therapy changing levels of adult male and female sex hormones has been shown to affect sex drive but not orientation.

The idea that homosexuality results from pre-natal immune attack on male brain characteristics by the mother is poorly supported. In that case male testes and genitalia (having the largest cluster of male-specific targets) should be attacked but are not.

Brain Structure
Numerous older studies of brain microstructures, in the nineties, have failed to come up with replicable differences between adult heterosexual and homosexual brains.

Modern studies show male and female brains at birth are not structurally different, making the likelihood of a specifically “homosexual” brain remote indeed. The main consistently replicable difference, from about age two or three, is their size.

The environment has effects on major sexual dimorphism [the difference between the sexes of the same species] from birth to puberty and beyond.

Sexual dimorphism of the brain mainly occurs at puberty, but even so, experts still have difficulty identifying structural differences between adult male and female brains (let alone heterosexual and homosexual). There is substantial overlap.

Neuroscientists are finding that the brain is extraordinarily plastic. The scientific consensus now is that even as an adult, we are what we are making our brains even though we may not be aware of the constant ongoing process. These changes in microstructure are visible in brain scans within months.

If differences are found between homosexual and heterosexual brains they are probably the result of years of conditioning (repeated thinking patterns and behavior).

Social, Sociological
The stages of psycho-social development toward adult heterosexuality are well defined and accepted by developmental psychologists, and are so obviously learned that heterosexuality is clearly not genetically mandated. In surveys of adult homosexuals many show deficits in several of these developmental stages—suggesting that homosexuality is cultural and environmental rather than genetic.

There is a much higher occurrence of homosexuality among those who have been raised in large cities, rather than in rural areas, arguing that the environment is much more powerful than genes in the development of homosexuality.

A scientific/sociological tool, Path Analysis, has been argued to show that there is no social or familial basis to homosexuality, but rather a biological one. However, social and family paths leading to homosexuality were collectively significant, though individual paths were not. In contrast, genetic paths were collectively insignificant.

Instincts
Our instincts, such as self-preservation, hunger, and reproduction, are among the most deeply embedded and strongest impulses we have, but these are able to be controlled and even adapted. If we want to argue homosexuality is also a deeply ingrained instinct, we can also argue it should be malleable and responsive to training.

Causes of SSA
There is no one cause. No single genetic, hormonal, social, or environmental factor is predominant. There are similar themes, childhood gender non-conformity, sexual abuse, peer and family dynamics, sexual history, but the mix varies with individuals making individualistic responses the single overriding factor. Two children from the same family and social environment can interpret incidents very differently. So random reaction, if it structures itself into self-image, can become a significant contributor to homosexuality—as twin studies show. The overriding outcome is a homo-emotional focus on people of the same sex that, at puberty, gets confused or melded with genital sex. This begins to finds expression in sexual acts with others of the same sex which become habitual and often (particularly in males) addictive. . . .

DNA is a ladder of nitrogenous bases and sugars that is a recipe for proteins, not sexual preferences. But it is also a ladder of destiny, a Jacob’s ladder, and it is our choice whether angels or demons walk up and down it.3

SIX: Where Will You Spend Eternity?
Eternity is a very long time, and it is worth your time and effort to seek out answers that can affect the outcome of your eternal destination. If in having read this booklet, you want to break free from an addiction to homosexuality, rest assured that the Gospel has the power to break any bondage. Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, died on the Cross offering forgiveness of sins and eternal life to all who turn from their sin (repent) and put their trust in Christ. When we are born again by the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, He promises never to leave or forsake us and gives us the power to walk in peace and victory.

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2)

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

[I]f thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Romans 10:9-11)
