ROME — Proclaiming “Europe is our common future,” 27 leaders of the European Union signed a statement on Saturday in Rome declaring their commitment to integrating the Continent even as a series of crises has badly weakened the efforts and Britain prepares to leave the bloc.
The statement, known as the Rome Declaration and signed on the anniversary of the day the bloc’s foundations were laid 60 years ago, underscored the aspirations of a “unique union with common institutions and strong values, a community of peace, freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.”
In a nod to reality, however, the leaders acknowledged that they were “facing unprecedented challenges, both global and domestic,” including “regional conflicts, terrorism, growing migratory pressures, protectionism and social and economic inequalities.”
The ceremony took place in a hall in Rome that was richly decorated in frescoes depicting scenes from the ancient world. It is the same room where the Treaty of Rome was signed on March 25, 1957, by six countries. That event helped lay the groundwork for today’s union. Click here to continue reading.
LTRP Note: The Pew Research Center is a liberal secular think tank. We sometimes post the results of their studies as they can show the direction that Americans are going, spiritually. In this particular study, it states that over one fourth of millennials are raised in homes where more than one religion is represented. No wonder this younger generation is so confused, and more evidence of the coming one-world, interspiritual religion.
(2 Corinthians 6:14) “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness.”
“One-in-Five U.S. Adults Were Raised in Interfaith Homes”
Pew Research Center
Roughly one-in-five U.S. adults were raised with a mixed religious background, according to a new Pew Research Center study. This includes about one-in-ten who say they were raised by two people, both of whom were religiously affiliated but with different religions, such as a Protestant mother and a Catholic father, or a Jewish mother and a Protestant stepfather. An additional 12% say they were raised by one person who was religiously affiliated (e.g., with Protestantism, Catholicism, Judaism or another religion) and another person who was religiously unaffiliated (atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular”). . . .
[T]he number of Americans raised in interfaith homes appears to be growing. Fully one-quarter of young adults in the Millennial generation (27%) say they were raised in a religiously mixed family. Click here to continue reading.
Commentary: The American Media, the Change in Control of the Internet, and the Threat to Freedom & Truth
By Bill Randles

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. (John 9:4)
The Internet is an amazing phenomenon. In spite of all of its many uses for evil, the cyber-world is the last bastion of free speech available to the world, a kind of international “town square” of communication, inviting one and all into the various “conversations” breaking out since its inception and explosive growth.
Anyone who can type (or speak into a recorder) has a voice on the Internet. Because of that, some truly great writers and journalists have emerged, who never would have gotten past the cultural gatekeepers in the old (leftist dominated) media, successful such as Matt Drudge and Michelle Malkin.
I am truly amazed at how little official opposition there seems to be to the relinquishing of control over the Internet by the Obama administration. The Internet is virtually a “made in the USA” phenomenon, having been financed at first by the US taxpayer, utilized by the military, and eventually opened up to “whosoever will” but under limited administration of domain names by the US Commerce Department.
U.S. officials announced plans Friday to relinquish federal government control over the administration of the Internet, a move that pleased international critics but alarmed some business leaders and others who rely on the smooth functioning of the Web.
Pressure to let go of the final vestiges of U.S. authority over the system of Web addresses and domain names that organize the Internet has been building for more than a decade and was supercharged by the backlash last year to revelations about National Security Agency surveillance.
The change would end the long-running contract between the Commerce Department and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a California-based nonprofit group. That contract is set to expire next year but could be extended if the transition plan is not complete.(“US to Relinquish Control Over The Internet,” by Craig Timberg, Washington Post, March 14, 2014)
The long-anticipated handover took place on October 1st, 2016 and is being virtually ignored by the “legacy media.” There has long been an international call for international authority to monitor the content of the Internet by foreign nations, but the pressure on the US to relinquish control of the Internet has intensified with the revelations of the National Security Agency spying on foreign governments.
The present system is US operated, licensed, and with limited content oversight. It is true that people can literally say anything, and every point of view can be aired and debated. Under US supervision, this amazing means of communication has remained basically a free-speech forum.
The turnover to foreign entities will change all of that, no doubt. Most of the world languishes under heavy blankets of censorship; for example, try criticizing Mohammed in any way in the Muslim world, or write an editorial against the Russian government, or the Chinese chairman in Russia or China. In those places, speech is uniform, no one can freely dissent without paying a heavy price for speaking out, even the ultimate price. Only the religio/political elite can speak their mind in most of the world.
Leftists, like Obama love this, they actually envy the absolute power dictators have over their own people, particularly the power to stifle dissent and criticism. Obama once wistfully opined, “It would be so much easier to be the President of China…” He also once prophesied that the future, “would not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam!”
The Internet, as it has grown and developed, flies in the face of all of this suppression. Thankfully, as in the recent Brexit vote in the UK, the people can actually side step the will of the ruling elite, and get alternatives to the official narrative, dutifully spoon fed to us for decades by the alphabet clone networks, ABC,CBS,NBC, CNN, NPR, and rags such as TIME magazine, NEWSWEEK, and the NEW YORK TIMES, the so called “legacy media.”
Time and again, we find that far from the “objective journalists” that they pretend to be, the Walter Cronkites, Peter Jennings, Sam Donaldsons, Wolf Blitzers and George Stephanopilis’s of the world are nothing more than highly biased partisan hacks.
How many times have we made the discovery that NBC or some other legacy organ has actually rigged stories and outright lied to the American public? Brian Williams and Dan Rather come to mind. These people are not above this; they hold the average person in contempt and are sell-out leftists for the most part.
At one time in my lifetime, this is virtually all we had for “news” and “information.”
As the Internet has exponentially expanded and grown, so also has an entire “alternative media,” such as the DRUDGE report, FREEREPUBLIC, FRONTPAGEMAG, NATIONAL REVIEW and TOWNHALL, not to mention the untold thousands of truly valuable bloggers who have undertaken the important journalistic work that the “official media” has refused to do (to the immense harm of this nation). Pajamas Media and Bill Whittle have done so much to counter the lies and spin also.
Our nation has been virtually betrayed by the traditional media. There would be no eight hellish, horrible, destructive years of Obama had the media even pretended to do its job of being true investigators and watchdogs, rather than the shameless political hacks they have proven to be.
The relentless whitewashing and cover up of Islam by the media is another treachery perpetrated against the American people. We have to put on “Anger Management” after every massacre or horrendous outrage perpetrated upon us by the followers of Mohammed, for the media pushes constantly the myth of the nonexistent “backlash” which Moslems supposedly fear so much.
Thankfully, there are Robert Spencer or William Warner and countless others, ignored for the most part by the traditional media, but through the Internet, they have a vast constituency of people sick and tired of being “gas lighted” and lied to about Islam, and who rant to inform themselves about the truth of this plague which has come to confront us.
The media lies in its coverage about crime and race; and those lies have brought this nation to such a toxic situation, people are dying because of it. The rage and sense of injustice carefully stoked in great part by the media among minority communities has poisoned our nation’s racial environment, setting back relations sixty years.
You would never know by the legacy media that there are black conservatives, who hold to a different point of view than the racial arsonists such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the many newer exploiters of the black-rage industry. They are carefully avoided and treated as oddities or non-entities. But not on the Internet—their voices are heard.
Finally and most importantly, through the Internet, the Word of God goes everywhere, even into the “closed world.” Christians have jumped on the Internet to use it for evangelism, discipleship, publishing, teaching, and examining the prophecies. I thank God every day that I live in this time when we can do it, for I am sure none of my seven books would be read by anyone had I had to go through the compromised bottleneck of today’s Christian publishing industry.
People are getting saved, lies are being challenged, Islam is being criticized (This almost has never happened, because people would be killed for daring to do so).
With all of its flaws and vanities, I believe we are in a period of light while the Internet remains under US supervision. It is still basically free. People can express themselves openly.
Obama, like all of the other elite State worshippers, is very uncomfortable with that. It is too obvious that the emperor is not wearing anything and that the New-World Order is a fascistic nightmare coming at us.
I don’t know what will happen, but I believe if the Internet is relinquished to the UN or to Russia, China, or the Muslim world, (or some combination of the above), Websites are going to be shut down, and we will be back where we were in the 1990s and before, with only the viewpoint of the left as our form of “News.” Night is falling.
If they shut down the Internet, a light goes out. I will then be relieved of the responsibility to write as copiously as I have (1000 articles, several books). I will know the darkness is descending and that soon the Lord will return . . . we must work while it is light . . . Maranatha!

President Putin has signed amendments imposing harsh restrictions on sharing beliefs, including where and who may share them, and increased “extremism” punishments, introduced with alleged “anti-terrorism” changes. There are widespread Russian protests against the suddenly-introduced changes, and may be a Constitutional Court challenge.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has signed into law legislation on so-called “missionary activity”, further restricting the public expression of freedom of religion and belief, including in the media and online, Forum 18 notes. The amendment – which has been rapidly introduced – caused widespread protests, but was signed on 6 July and the signing was made public at Moscow lunchtime on 7 July. It was published on the presidential website that day and comes into force on 20 July.
Lawyers working to protect the right to freedom of religion and belief are already preparing for an appeal to the Constitutional Court. At the same time, they are preparing advice to individuals and religious communities on how to abide by the terms of the Law. One Protestant leader, though, has warned that some of the restrictions “a good Christian cannot fulfil.”
Against international human rights obligations, the amendments to the Religion Law restrict those who can share beliefs to people with permission from members of state-registered religious groups and organisations. This excludes people from groups which have chosen to operate without state permission, such as certain Baptist congregations. The amendments also bar even informal sharing of beliefs, for example responding to questions or comments, by individuals acting on their own behalf.
The amendments also restrict the beliefs that can be shared, specifies a restricted list of places where beliefs may be shared, and explicitly bans any beliefs from being shared in residential buildings, or on another association’s property without permission. An allegedly “anti-terrorist” part of the amendments bars the conversion of residential property to religious use. Click here to continue reading.
LTRP Note: While Lighthouse Trails does not always issue comments on tragic events (e.g. shootings in Florida and Texas), we want our readers to know that we find these tragedies heart rendering and deplorable. And we are very moved and aware that the families of these victims suffer terribly. We are struck by a sense of dread as we consider the reality that times are only going to get darker as mankind and societies turn further away from their only hope, Jesus Christ and from the truth of God’s Word.
The situation in nations around the world points to end-time events taking place as “the distress of nations” prophesied by Jesus for the last days. Since the beginning of Ma,y there were huge forest fires in Alberta, Canada, in Siberia, and Russia’s far east, Cyprus and California. 2015 ended up being the worst year for wildfires in all of U.S. history, and since 2016 began, things have continued to get worse.
Searing heat has also caused droughts in many parts of the world, including east and southern Africa. Malawi has declared a state of emergency as 2.8 million people face food shortages as a result of drought. In India the month of May saw 330 million people affected by drought. The June monsoon has eased the situation in India, but there are doubts about the country’s ability to provide water for its huge population. One source of water, the Ganges River, is now so polluted that the amount of toxins, chemicals, and other dangerous bacteria found in the river are now almost 3000 times over the limit suggested by the World Health Organization as “safe.”
There have been unusual floods in France, Germany, and Russia, while in the USA, West Virginia is dealing with a “500-year flood” after it received approximately a quarter of its entire average annual rainfall in a single day. There have been reports around the world of unusual fish deaths, in particular in Chile and Vietnam where millions of clams, fish, and even mammals have been washed up on the beaches. In China, a vast number of dead fish suddenly appeared in Hongcheng Lake in Haikou.
he most dangerous volcano in Mexico, Mt. Popocatepetl, has roared to life in spectacular fashion, not far from where Mexico City’s 18 million residents live. Our world is being pummeled by dozens of earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater, and a total of 38 volcanoes are erupting worldwide. Seismologists are warning that the crust of our planet is becoming increasingly unstable. They are concerned that the big quake long feared for California may be about to hit. As well as the spread of the Zika virus in South America, urgent action is needed to combat a yellow fever epidemic in Africa amid signs it is turning into a global health emergency. Nearly a billion people are at risk from the deadly disease in Africa and Latin America and Asia.
The Syrian conflict rages on into its sixth year. Half the country’s pre-war population—more than 11 million people—have been killed or forced to flee their homes. Iraqi forces have pushed back IS from the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, but there has been massive devastation as a result. Fallujah’s population of 300,000 is now in camps in the searing desert heat outside the city. While ISIS is being pushed back in Syria and Iraq, it has “celebrated” the Muslim holy month of Ramadan by launching a series of terrorist attacks causing mass death and injury around the world.
More and more countries are falling into poverty with governments unable to provide their people with the basics of life. Greece, devastated by debt and the Euro crisis, has been abandoned by the EU to a situation of permanent poverty. Suicides have doubled to 3,000 a year. Almost one in three people have no work. The young are emigrating, and people have lost hope of the situation improving. In South America, oil rich Venezuela is now running out of food with people killing cats and dogs to eat. Hospitals have no medicine, and the country is in a state of near anarchy. Brazil, about to host the Olympic Games, is also in an economic and political crisis, after the acting governor of Rio de Janeiro state has declared a state of financial disaster and warned of “the total collapse of public security.”
Droughts, forest fires, pollution of waters causing fish deaths, earthquakes, famine and epidemics, wars, terrorism, collapse of economies–all this points us to the coming time of tribulation as prophesied in such passages as Matthew 24.7 and Revelation 8.7-12, and the soon coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the only hope of our world. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron…” 1 Timothy 4:1-2
We don’t hear much about spiritual warfare these days. Most churches seem to ignore the reality of Satan and the evil he inspires. God’s warnings about fellowship with the world’s alluring thrills doesn’t fit the contemporary image of Jesus as a tolerant, easy-going friend.
Since the 18th century’s birth of the “Age of Reason,” an increasing number of “enlightened” Western leaders and influential “change agents” have tried to discredit the Bible and silence believers. More recently, a vast number of politicians, media masters and educators have joined this war against biblical truth and Christian values.
No wonder our public schools are becoming bastions of atheism, immorality and — spreading fast — the promotion of Islam. Like the persecuted Jews during and after Hitler’s holocaust, today’s Jews and Christians are facing hatred and rising persecution for standing firm in their faith.
It’s no secret that Satan’s lies have sparked wars and cruelty through the ages. Ever since Eve chose to follow her own feelings rather than God’s wise guidelines, humanity has faced assaults from “the evil one” — often through his willing pawns. Call him the Devil, Deceiver, Satan, or serpent; it doesn’t matter. It’s all the same ruthless oppressor:
“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world…” Revelation 12:9
From the beginning, this invisible fiend has been seeding doubt, depravity, despair and death. Through the ages, he has inspired idolatry, witchcraft, deadly curses and magical arts that were used to control people and corrupt cultures. He lost some ground during America’s Christian era, when — by God’s grace — our nation was relatively free from such dark forces. But our times are changing fast, and once again the captivating forces of evil are mesmerizing vulnerable children as well as adults.
In 2014, Fox Network launched a new TV series that glorifies Lucifer; marketed with pro-Satan tweets:
“The more subtle side of satanism in Hollywood entertainment is now a thing of the past, as primetime television airs blatantly evil shows like the upcoming Fox drama Lucifer, which glorifies the goings about of the ‘lord of hell’; after he fictitiously leaves the lake of fire and retires to Los Angeles.
“The premise behind the absurd drama, which is set to release in 2016, centers around so-called ‘Lucifer Morningstar’ and his new life as the owner of Lux, an upscale nightclub located in the City of Angels…. ‘It’s only fitting, then, that this modern-day show produced by satanists would portray Lucifer as a type of benevolent god… to take the place of the real God…. Whether you believe what the Bible says or not, this is the clear-as-day implication of this upcoming show that will soon be watched by presumably millions of people.”
This world is changing fast, and we must prepare for the challenges ahead. Our children need to know and remember warnings like these:
“There shall not be found among you any one that… that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer…. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord…” Deuteronomy 18:10-12
Satan knows well that no nation can maintain true freedom apart from God’s moral law. Quenched by propaganda, hedonism and distorted views of God’s Truth, the biblical values that made America kind, generous, honest and successful are now fading fast — even in churches. Some years ago a youth pastor sent me this conflicting message:
“I am a strong Christian and love the Lord with all my heart. The problem is I really enjoy reading the Harry Potter books and nothing about them conflicts with my spirit…”
A young woman who called herself “a solitary witch” wrote this revealing message:
“I am a Harry Potter fan for several reasons. … You are not just drawn into the story but into that world. Then through talking about them with fans you fall further and further in love with the characters, you analyze them and worry about them until they feel real to you. Then you have, in a way, become a part of that shared universe, and it is a wonderful place to be.”
What a cruel illusion! When a nation turns from God’s ways to decadence and imaginary thrills, our Lord withdraws His blessings and protection. And when Satan has his way, calamity reigns. Remember, the evil one rules a hierarchy of like-minded demonic beings:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers , against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God , that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:12-13
That “evil day” may already be upon us. It’s beginning to bring fear and oppression to wayward America — as it did to the persecuted Christians in the Middle East. And now, with today’s massive movement of migrants who — like some of our leaders — despise both Jews and Christians, our world is changing faster than ever. What’s more, Western countries like America, the UK and Germany are still hosts to unthinkable occultism and secret societies. Some of those empowered servants of darkness may well join tomorrow’s tyrants.
Yes we can! God always wins — even when the victory looks more like defeat to us! He is the sovereign Lord and King over all, and His wisdom and long-range plans for our lives far surpass our finite understanding. Everything is under His command:
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
With our limited insights into His heavenly plans, we may be tempted to complain. To resist that lure, we need to trust God, know His Word, and remember His Wonderful Promises. No matter what challenges we face, He is with us – strengthening our faith and training us to endure! For,
“…in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Romans 8:37
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil….
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness; and shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…” Ephesians 6:10-11, 14-18.

OTTAWA — A bill has been introduced in the Canadian Parliament that would extend the country’s ban on “hate propaganda” to pertain to “gender identity.”
Bill C-16 was introduced on the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia by Minister of Justice Jody Wilson-Raybould.
“This enactment amends the Canadian Human Rights Act to add gender identity and gender expression to the list of prohibited grounds of discrimination,” a summary of the bill outlines.
“The enactment also amends the Criminal Code to extend the protection against hate propaganda set out in that Act to any section of the public that is distinguished by gender identity or expression,” it continues, “and to clearly set out that evidence that an offence was motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on gender identity or expression constitutes an aggravating circumstance that a court must take into consideration when it imposes a sentence.” Click here to continue reading.
