Contemplative prayer may be taking the place of discerning the body of the LORD. I Corinthians 11:26 says that when we take communion we should be trusting and believing on the sacrifice of Jesus. We should discern the body of the Lord in worship and communion with each other as well. Could it be that contemplative prayer and emotions draw us along in modern setting but are not useful to the encouragement of the body to discern the Lord’s body? The body includes acknowledging God’s people which is the body of Christ and the body of Christ crucified for our salvation. We are to examine ourselves to see if we really believe when we partake. It doesn’t mean that people aren’t sincere or don’t love God it just means some other practice has diluted what could be a strong love for Jesus and His salvation.
