That is exactly what my thoughts were also, it makes no rational sense to believe that Jesus’s death on the cross was a “slaughter house religion” in regards to the atonement for sins but not for Him just being a good example. That scripture is describing them to a T. Oh Lord, open their blind eyes. Amen

Amen, we need to know the Word of God. There are some Bibles that are changing the Word. We need to take caution against reading some of the ‘new’ translations.

Since “Fundamentalists” simply believe the Fundamentals (basics) of the faith, as seen in the Word of God, it is interesting that Fosdick chose to characterize his view of them (now us) as enemies! (Re: “Who will win the war…?”)

This reveals his true heart, that he was not in fact aligned with the Lord God, with His Holy Word, but had actually made himself an enemy of God’s own people! Quite an arresting thought, to be sure.

I actually encountered Brian McLaren one day at Amazon in a discussion about a Christian book, and he chastised me for believing the Bible (though of course he did not put it in those exact words). I had barely heard of him then, but I got a quick education about what he believes and does NOT believe. It was very sad even as it was enlightening. He made a comment about the barbarity of the Cross (not his exact words, but very close).

Every true child of God needs to KNOW the Word of God and be led of the Spirit continually so that we can always be ready to give an answer to such an one, with a gentle spirit, speaking the Truth in Love. And always, always pray / intercede for those who are so terribly lost.

    Now wait a minute…

If “the idea that God would send His Son to a violent death on the Cross” to pay for the sin of mankind so that man can be saved is “slaughterhouse religion”, how is “the idea that God would send His Son to a violent death on the Cross” as a mere “act of service and sacrifice, an example for others to follow” be any less so? How is Jesus’ violent death on the cross to redeem mankind any more “barbaric” than His violent death on the cross as a mere example of service? Wouldn’t such a costly sacrifice by Jesus (and the Father) be just as much “barbarity” either way?

I mean, if it would be wrong for God to sacrifice His Son to pay for our sin, wouldn’t it be just as wrong for God to sacrifice His Son as an example of self sacrifice? Either way, Jesus went to a violent death.

But by rejecting the Gospel, these self-styled wise men have rejected rational thought. Professing themselves to be wise, they have become fools.

If God would just ‘forgive,’ that would not be justice.
In the body of Christ and the sacrificial atonement, we have the intersection of God’s perfect justice and perfect mercy.

“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…”
1 Corinthians 15; 3-4 (among so many other verses)

We as true believers know this. But due to the apostasy, so many are falling away from the faith into satan’s deception. I know some of them personally. Once they abandon their anchor to God’s Word; the Bible, anything goes as they are tossed to and fro in the waves of false doctrine. They cut their cord that binds them to salvation and heaven when they do this. This is what happens when the devil tempts man away from God’s Word, he is still posing the question; “Did God really say…?”
    Yes, He did!
