  1. Bruce Wilkinson was one of my instructors at Multnomah Bible College. He was quite good. He taught “Walk Thru the Bible” courses in churches, so needed in assisting with people’s Bible knowledge. He also held teachings on generations that fall from the patriarch’s faith. He was a friend to friends of mine. I believe his fame went to his head and he wavered from just believing in the Bible from cover to cover. We must stand the course! Thank you for the article.

When you draw a circle, YOU are in the center.
In the whole Bible, from the 1st verse (but you have to study it in Hebrew) to the last, Jesus, the alpha and the omega is in the center.

In the Book of Heather Zempel, “ big change small group”, Mark Batterson wrote the foreword. The last words of it are : “you can do it, you…, you…, yes YOU” (capital letters).

The Bible says: “… for without me ye can do nothing. “.

The Church at Philadelphia kept His word, confessed His Name and were obedient to the revealed will of God. All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God. The denial of His Name is the increasing Apostasy around us on every hand. The Church at Laodicea , “The rights of the people” is our present day Church in most places. A lukewarm church indifferent to the Lord and His Truth. Pride and self-satisfaction. I am rich and need of nothing. The Lord is now standing outside the door of these professing churches. He is standing at the door and knocking. Hear His voice and open the door and He will come in and sup with you and you with Him. The Circle Making Practice includes mystic spirituality, the New Age “Christ-Consciousness”, Pagans, Satanists, Demons, Occult Practice, Native Spiritualism Earth Centered Faith to name a few of many others. Christians need to take the straight line of Truth to The Cross of Calvary and pray for help to get back to Gods Holy Word.

Honi prayed to the “Lord of the Universe.” I searched the prophets and could not find that phrase. God’s anointed OT prophets prayed to the God of Israel, God of Jacob, Lord of Hosts and Daniel prayed to the God of Heaven. I may be splitting hairs but I found it to be one more thing to make me question “Circle Makers.”

This is an excellent article. I was once immersed in the Charismatic movement in the 1990’s and we had a “March for Jesus” event in 1993 in our city. Of course, mostly the Charismatic and Pentecostal churches were involved at that time. (There was one more March for Jesus event in the year 2000 which took in more of the local churches in our area, and I would describe that as more like a “circus for Jesus”. ) But at the earlier one, I remember standing with a group of people, some from Catholic backgrounds, in a parking lot at a major shopping center. We were all praying together “for revival” and we were standing in a circle and praying specifically to each of the four directions, we turned, with arms uplifted toward the North, South, East and West proclaiming revival toward all those directions of the globe.
Believe me when I say that the things I was involved in, and that characterize the Charismatic Movement were bizarre and deceptive practices to say the least. I shudder to think of those things now, but praise God forever for mercifully delivering me from all of that.

Jesus did not pray in a circle or make circles. During His last hours on earth Jesus asked God to take away the impending torture that He was destined to endure, but then said not my will but Thine be done. Jesus was willing to do His Father’s will, even if it meant going to the cross. We cannot force God to do what we want, no matter how many circles we draw. Jesus taught us how to pray and we need to pray the way He taught us. Thy will be done. By the way, witches stand in a circle.

Batterson based his book on Honi the circle maker. Honi the Phoney as Pastor Mike Hoggard calls him.

“let us make for ourselves a name”… has caused much hurt and damage in our lives. Genesis 11:4

These books sell because people, using God as an “endorsement”, like to pursue their “great name”… their pride.

We’re created for Jesus Christ’s pleasure… not ours. Will we live like it? It’s a temptation to live for ourselves. Jesus faced it in the desert with Satan’s offers.
Revelation 4 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
