I spoke to Swindoll’s head pastor for about an hour 3 yrs. ago about this. He kept denying that Swindoll doesn’t embrace contemplative prayer, although I read Swindoll’s quotes recommending CP books to his congregation. He kept saying that everyone is doing it and that so many churches now have booklets about it on tables. He never used scripture during the whole hour, but whenever I quoted scripture, he responded w/silence & exasperation. ..Especially Gal. 1:8. Another thing that he kept repeating when he was at a loss for words: “We don’t usually get calls like this….”

I am shocked, very shocked!, to see that these FoF staff are equating ungodly teachings to Biblical scripture which does not teach or exemplify those things at all! I am VERY concerned for people everywhere who have followed FoF via radio and other sources for many years, who truly believe them to be strong, committed Christians. I pray they will not be deluded, too.

I would love a copy of this book, as my church has been using Richard Foster’s work and Henri Nouwen’s work for years. Now my wife wants to go to a FOF marriage conference and I am concerned that they will be introducing some of these ideas as well. Thank you for any help you can bring. Bill Higgins

I guess I would have never come across this stuff on the FOF web site since I wouldn’t ever visit the web site of syncretisic ministry like FOF and D.r Dobson. What do you expect from someone who tries to mix the bible with false science from the wisdom of men (psychology) (Col 2:8; 1 Tim 6:20)? The sad thing is that many Christians hold up FOF as “Christian” when it clearly teaches heresy regarding self-esteem, self-love etc. and is unwilling to accept the Word of God as all sufficient (2 Pet 1:3; 2 Tim 3:16,17) syn·cre·tism ˈsiNGkrəˌtizəm/Submit noun 1. the amalgamation or attempted amalgamation of different religions, cultures, or schools of thought. Sadly I did give A Time of Departing to our leadership to read. They see nothing wrong with contemplative spirituality. My husband and I had to leave our church of 15 years and now I am being seen as the one who is a “problem”. Even though I was in womans leadership and worship ministry and well known and loved by many. Looking for another church has not been easy. The teachings of contemplative spirituality are accepted by many churches.

A great delusion will be, rather is being sent. A delusion so powerful that even the elect were it possible will be deceived.. Mocking and scoffing has many faces. The deluded scoffers have a thinly veiled contempt for all discernment ministries. They are labeled as being radical heresy hunters. Before Dobson was dismissed from FOCUS he was all on board with the PRAYER OF JABEZ. During the interview with the author felt God would send great blessings for Dobson and FOCUS. Shortly after Dobson was booted for being too right wing political. Dobson and FOCUS has shown little biblical discernment on many occasions. Biblical counseling cannot be yoked to secular, atheist, psychology.
