Christian sounding devotional books with striking similarities to psychic-medium channeled material? New Age/New Spirituality/occult concepts and buzzwords? Blasphemous names, titles, and self-descriptions from a counterfeit “Christ”—in relation to himself? Messages from Sarah Young’s “Jesus” that wants his readers to experience his “Presence” and go through lengthy and intensive “training” so that readers can eventually “channel throughout the day”? Yes indeed! All this and much more can be found in the ‘Jesus Calling’ Brand devotional book series. Take a look at some incredible documents that reveal extensively the ‘Jesus Calling’ “Presence” and Sarah Young’s claim of what “inspired” her to begin “with pen in hand,” writing down what her “Jesus” guide told her.

  1. Please, just show me the fallacies of ANY devotional book as where it contradicts The Word of God whether written in first, second or third person. Then we’ll discuss its inerrancy! Do we not hear God’s Voice daily as we talk with Him? Does He not speak to US in first person the same as He does in His Word? Why is this not true here? Look for words and concepts that oppose His Word in ANY devotional or sermon regardless of syntax!

  2. P.S. I didn’t know about LT’s book when I received that book from her as a gift. I had not discovered this website then, so I didn’t learn about that until some time later.

  3. That’s a good point, Heidi. I do believe that the Lord has provided for our benefit the gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed and taught in the Holy Bible.

At the same time, I do not believe in using those gifts apart from the anointing power of the one true God. I do not believe in doing anything which is not Biblical, especially in a church worship service.

Blessings to you, dear sister in Christ! I appreciate your posts. 🙂

  4. A dear friend with whom I go wayyyy back (high school and college) sent me this book some time ago. I knew next to nothing about it then and tried to read it, but couldn’t, for the reasons I mentioned below. I wanted then to send her the book published by LT, but then she experienced a terrible tragedy in her life and it didn’t seem like the right time.

Your post has reminded me that I need to do that. I know you don’t know her name, but the Lord does. Please pray with me that she will have ears to hear the Truth which will open her eyes to the falseness of that book.

Your posts are always such a blessing; I’ve learned a lot from you. Blessings, dear sister in Christ! 🙂

  5. This is common practice in the Charismatic Movement.
When one “prophecies” they always us the First Person.
It is assumed it is “God” talking through the person doing the prophecying. I was in Pentecostal churches for about ten years and the Lord delivered me from all the deception. So in the case of Sarah Young, as have others done, it is assumed what is being written down is coming straight from God, like divine inspiration. But this is information coming from a demonic spirit in reality. As for what goes on in Charismatic and Pentecostal circles, one could also say that the messages being voiced could also be coming from the persons themselves. But certainly, it is blasphemous on any account.

  6. I agree that the main thing wrong with Jesus Calling is that Sarah Young is impersonating or pretending to be Jesus, saying words He never said. To pretend to be Jesus is blasphemous. There is only one Son of God. Jesus did not say the words in Jesus Calling. She has no right to use the first person I in that book. This is very bothersome.

  7. Question: How do you respond when a friend or neighbor is raving about Jesus Calling?

  8. What bothers me most about Sarah Young’s books is that she writes in the First Person, as though she is GOD speaking. That IS blasphemous, in my view.

It is one thing to say, “I think the LORD is saying this to me”. It is a completely different thing to say, “I’m speaking for the Lord here.”

The second thing that bothers me about her books is that her god is all fluff — he has no words of correction, no words of conviction, no words of judgment at all. It’s just the world’s idea of of luv, luv, luv.

God IS Love — no one else loves like HE loves — and His Word is perfectly balanced, with words of comfort and peace and hope AND words that convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. Heaven and Hell, both.

Whether she has meant to or not, she has done great harm in this world. I pray that those who have been deceived will see that and repent of all false beliefs, putting their complete trust in God alone, realizing that humans are fallible. I pray that Sarah Young will repent, too, and make that known publicly.

  9. Bekah: Therefore, with your suggested pedigree of family and scripture knowledge, I would encourage you to do as such:
    Acts 17:11
‘Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.’

Ms. Young’s own admission in the original publication of the first Jesus Calling to channeling has since been erased in subsequent reprints.

Let’s rightly divide the word of God and pray for discernment to determine the difference between Almost Right & Right!

  10. Hi, I don’t know if I’m reading this article correctly, but I was brought up in a Christian home dad was a preacher also went to christian schools.. so I’m very well versed in the scripture.. with that being said.. every devotional that I have read and shared is 100% doctrinally sound.. This book has helped numerous people through hard times as well as myself.. The word is the word I dont care who delivers it. We dont discredit the Bible because there a preacher and teachers that are not living right lives.. Again great word great message and in a world that needs it ..this is a great book and I will continue to sow it I peoples lives! Be blessed!

  11. I may be biased, and so what about it? Chris Lawson is an expert on all things spiritually counterfeit and many New Age-related things (I’m talking about two real situations in which Chris advised and helped). He’s a thorough researcher and one of the nicest guys I know and he surfs well (so he said once!).

Seriously, take Chris’ advice and warnings to heart. God has placed him here for a good reason. Chris had suffered hard times when he had turned his back on a church and was left stranded in a foreign country, but this remarkable dude came out of there, stronger than ever.

Please visit his website and read his other articles and about his adventures too. Chris is one of us; a brother to be cherished.

    Thanks, Chris!
