Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee. And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel. And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.( I Samuel 11:1-4)
I have been thinking of this timeless scriptural story, in relation to the West’s current existential struggle against Islamic barbarism. Nahash, an early (Arab) Ammonite King demanded a high price for “peace” with the besieged town of Jabesh Gilead. He would let them live, as long as they were willing to put their right eyes out, thus rendering the men helpless to defend themselves, in a day of the military use of archery and hand-held shields.
One of Nahash’s descendants, (if not physical, certainly moral and spiritual), Mohammed, devised a similar system, called Dhimmification. Muslims would “allow you to live” if you would be willing to be “humbled”, pay a severe tax, and live as a second class citizen for the rest of your life, constantly to be reminded in a degrading fashion, of the ‘superiority” of your Muslim masters. Don’t take my word for it,
Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”(Koran 9:29)
