A simple gospel for helpless mankind summed up:
“by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone”

we live in utterly different universes.
I see the explosion of Seeker Friendly churches embracing both amillinialism and Arminianism. The combination is a self aggrandizing apostasy far worse than your Calvinist phobia.
Please exeget John 6:44 for me.
“No man can”, is a universal negative.
    no exceptions.
I was as the Word says DEAD in my sins. Just as the word says no one includung myself seeks after God.
The Father sent me to Jesus via the Holy Spirit who pierced my heart and shattered my stiff necked pride.
I give myself zero credit for my complete and utter repentance.
This is no boasting in works or repentance.
You my brother have imposed hyper Calvinist beliefs onto Calvinism.
God didn’t explain Himself to Job nor does he need to ever explain His will to any.
He is the creator He is the potter.
All I know there is no ME in by faith alone by grace alone by Christ alone to the glory of God alone.
Excuse me for giving myself not one iota of credit or boasting for being saved and sealed for eternity.
That which God has sealed God alone can break that seal.
    We are one in Christ.

Thank you for sharing this! This is excellent! As a former Roman Catholic and now a born again believer, I have a hard time understanding why anyone who claims to be born again would stay in the same system that was teaching them false doctrine to begin with. I left Roman Catholicism when I learned the truth. I had no desire to stay in a false Church. I wanted to be fed the truth not more lies. So, when people tell me they are born again believers, but continue in the same false religion, I am wondering if they really understand what it means to be born again.

Another wonderful gift from Lighthouse trails. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Sadly John Calvin, on his Deathbed cried out for God to save his Soul. How sad this is. For God so Loved the World. Calvin said God even loved the millions that went to Hell. Do we find this in God’s Holy word anywhere? How very sad this is. Confusion to many who are not saved! God does not send man to Hell. People chose to not trust God’s Grace and mercy because of their own sin. Not saved? Repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. We pray the Holy Bible leads you to Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  5. This is quite an exceptional article.

    I like what Ironside said:

“Error is like leaven of which we read, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” (Galatians 5:9). Truth mixed with error is equivalent to all error, except that it is more innocent looking and, therefore, more dangerous. God hates such a mixture! Any error, or any truth-and-error mixture, calls for definite exposure and repudiation. To condone such is to be unfaithful to God and His Word and treacherous to imperiled souls for whom Christ died.”

N in respond to David D. Article. In short ,been there, done that. All of the above n have had it with calvanist delusion. It is truly satanic. My husband n i r without a bible believing assembly. Everywhere we’ve looked r either calvanist reformed or they r conformed to the world. There is some form of leaven in them. N we have the assurance that we r part of the “Bride of Christ”. Not the brick n mortar.

This is to Dara, I understand completely where u coming fr. I was a catholic n married to a baptist i always questioned Catholicism n its many rituals but never practiced them .I only pray toGod. I never prayed to Mary. I never learned anything fr. Being catholic. I alway had this nagging question,”why r they always by-passing Jesus and praying to every statue in the catholic building. That always bugged me. I learned by going to a Baptist church what the truth is but only got saved 8yrs. Ago. I am a a born again Bible believer because Jesus promised that when i believe n have faiith in him,he will save me. How simple is that. Dara as for all ur questions, when i got saved, the Holy Spirit is in u to guide u n tell u that u don’t belong there. N only the Lord n yourself will know ur saved. Don’t fall into that trap of questioning who is saved or not. It’s a waste of ur valuable time. Yes u will know them by their fruit but there r alot of goats out there,u can’t be sure. Just trust in the Lord at all times n he will direct ur path. God bless u.

I attend and am a member of a Calvinist Church, United Reformed of America. I cannot relate at all to the hatred or lack of understanding so many here declare. Clearly there is great misunderstanding of the “Calvinist” gospel. I am surprised you offer NO balanced discussion on this but continue to harbor dissention and arguments based on no understanding. Try reading the book, “The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination” by Lorraine Boettner for a clear understanding, without the fear of ignorance or bias. I believe it will clear up anyone’s misconceptions. The Protestant Church held to Calvinism for centuries as well as condemned Arminianism in 1618 by the Synod of Dort. How many even know this? Have you addressed this fact? No, you have not.

    Laura,

I could not have said it better even if someone had predestined me to say it.
You are right about this Calvinist evil; thank you for sharing and calling a snake a snake.

I hate Calvinism with a passion. It is another (a different) gospel. It has infected nearly every church I’ve attended. Sadly, as a result I am currently churchless. They take the wonderful and freeing gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and turn it into a complicated theological system that demeans and diminishes the blood of Christ that was shed for ALL sinners. God is really not a loving Creator who desires fellowship with fallen man, and through Christ made a way for that to happen; He is truly a cosmic despot who glories in sending people to hell. People who he, by the way caused to sin. He’s a liar and a thief then, robbing us of any real hope. Oh wait – that’s not a description of the God of the Bible. That’s a biblical description of the devil who roams about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. So the “god” of Calvinism is none other than Satan himself. It is the doctrine of demons.

  11. John Giurgiu

I believe Calvinism has condemned a whole lot of people to hell even as does Catholicism. I don’t understand how so many follow the teachings of Calvin when they know he was wrong about so many things – how in the world do they trust his theology still?

  12. Dara

I have a question – when you say “I don’t question that there are a good number of Catholics (like my mother) and Calvinists (who are growing exponentially in number) who are truly saved,…” how can someone who says they are Catholic and who are participating in the Catholic rituals be saved? If they are saved wouldn’t they remove themselves from the Catholic church and its practices? How can they pray to Mary and pray to the Catholic saints and maintain that Jesus is their Lord and Savior? I have met people who tell the story of being “saved out of the Catholic church” but hold that their parent or loved ones who recognize Jesus died for our sins are saved even though they remain in the Catholic church. Would you clarify your stand on the Catholic church and those who practice Catholic rituals and identify as Catholics and whether they are saved?

Calvinism is evil; its rude and smug modern-day pushers are evil. This thing’s big daddy, Satan; and Calvin (pieces of smelly stuff upon him), Augustine, Luther (he, the big “fan” of the Jewish people), are evil to the core.
Calvinism has nothing to do with God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
It’s as easy as that; believe it or not.

Beautiful tribute to your mother and encouragement for me today! The simple gospel is like a still small voice, and I think the enemy is using the clamor of the noisy, busy chaos going on around us to divert people from hearing it. Thank you for reminding us to keep returning to the simplicity of that truth.

….the making and using God as a Pezz dispenser for our every whim! I was reading in the commentary section of a blog the other day, a women who intended on taking her own life because she had been diagnosed with a terminal disease! She claimed herself as a believer but ‘just knew’ that God would never want her to suffer! I was deeply saddened as so many thoughts rushed through my head.

Let’s march on Saints as we joyfully await our blessed assurance and let’s speak of His great love for us to give hope to this fallen world.

A wonderful and courageous article. Thank you for your faithfulness. I come from a similar background and am familiar with the issues raised and am in full agreement with your article. Blessings,

Such a beautiful and loving tribute to the memory of your mom. God is so faithful and true and the message of the cross is simple. It’s pride that stands in the way to accepting its simplicity. The Tower of Babel comes to mind; what that must’ve look like to God? Little red ants on an ant hill perhaps.

We’re always toiling to work our way to an all powerful and infinite God. Man’s ability to think and reason is minute but for some reason so much is admired in the world of academia. The theologians of old were no different as even in their studies they missed the simplicity of the gospel. Now decades and decades later we can see the entrails, those who crept in unaware. I also grew up in the Catholic Church and went to Catholic school all the way to senior in high school. But the Lord showed me at a very young age what the nuns were teaching couldn’t be right. How could I know this as a first grader?
‘At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.‘ Matt 11:25
Calvinism is no different but there are so many current Pastors who try to infuse their own ideas with Calvinism and eventually everything becomes a new way to God. And Ecclesiastes tells us there’s nothing new under the sun.
I’ve listened to some who only tout healing of every ache and pain… come get your healing or come get your blessing. It’s a car dealership Christianity in…

This is a wonderful book. It blesses us with a much-needed message for today: We need to anchor ourselves in the love of God, and trust in the pure gospel of Christ. Philosophy and works-based religion are tempting substitutes for this clear John 3:16 gospel, and they are sadly deceiving many people in these times. Calvinism in particular has done great damage to my concept of God. I am still struggling to be completely free of its influences on my mind and spirit. This book is a great help in that regard, and I will re-read it many times to soak in its encouragements as I continue to rely on the true character of our loving God.
