Thank you again light house for this article by H.A. Ironside. Without the Resurrection of Christ from the dead we have nothing. Saved and unsaved need to read this. The saved to help us understand Doctrine and to the unsaved to turn them to Christ for salvation.

2 Corinthians 7:9-11 is a passage often mis-applied to support a lordship salvation view of repentance.

The “repentance” (change of mind) in this passage applies to the Corinthians tolerance of sinful behavior within their church. Upon Paul’s admonitions, they changed their minds (repented) and became “clear on this matter” (vs. 11). The consequence of their repentance was that the situation was dealt with. It had nothing to do with receiving eternal life through faith in Christ.

    2 Corinthians 7:10 Context
7And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more. 8For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season. 9Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

“Repent means to change your mind completely, to have a new attitude. You had an idea that you could save yourself by your good works, but you change your mind and now admit that you cannot do a thing to save yourself, but that Christ must do it all. That is repentance— a change of attitude toward God. Instead of trying to do anything to save yourself, let the Lord Jesus do it all.”

Exactly. Yet from how many pulpits–even this day–will we hear the unbiblical nonsense that “repentance” means “turning from sin”? The vast majority, thanks to many popular and high-profile teachers and evangelists. (No, I don’t mean just the “contemplatives”.)

Still, the Gospel of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone trickles out, here and there.

Happy Resurrection Day 2020 to all who rest in Jesus!
