{"id":11571,"date":"2013-05-04T10:06:09","date_gmt":"2013-05-04T14:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/?p=11571"},"modified":"2026-07-19T21:01:28","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T04:01:28","slug":"letter-to-the-editor-missionarypastor-concerned-that-christians-think-cp-issue-small","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/letter-to-the-editor-missionarypastor-concerned-that-christians-think-cp-issue-small\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter to the Editor: Missionary\/Pastor Concerned That Christians Think CP Issue Small"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m a Christian missionary pastor in \u00a0________, Mexico.\u00a0 I first would like to thank you for your discernment ministry.\u00a0 Second, I would like to suggest in your next newsletter you have some sort of survey with statistics of how many US pastors seminaries, as well as worldwide, if you can, are influenced or following\u00a0 the false teachings of Rick Warren, [Mark] Driscoll, [Thomas] Merton, [Henri] Nouwen, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that many people think only a small percentage of Christians \/ Pastors are being affected.\u00a0 It\u2019s great to expose the damage, but if people think it\u2019s a small fringe, they will think the same of your ministry and other discerning Pastors \/ Churches.\u00a0 Also, sadly, there needs to be an article which also states the requirement of a Pastor to be a watchmen, not to just \u201ctend his own flock.\u201d\u00a0 We are responsible to the whole Body of Christ to teach, warn, and care for.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding surveys . . . \u00a0 It would be tedious work, but perhaps another method could be to check what churches, seminaries, schools, etc., have in their curriculums, bookstores, recommended book lists, etc. \u00a0For example, Rick Warren\u2019s web site has Nouwen listed number one for his wife\u2019s recommended books!\u00a0 Nouwen is also recommended for discipleship, etc.:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131710115100\/http:\/\/www.saddleback.com\/resources\/recommendedreading\/kaywarren\/\">http:\/\/www.saddleback.com\/resources\/recommendedreading\/kaywarren\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140222012252\/http:\/\/www.saddleback.com:80\/resources\/recommendedreading\/thelifeofdiscipleship\/\">http:\/\/www.saddleback.com\/resources\/recommendedreading\/thelifeofdiscipleship\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.saddleback.com\/search.html?q=nouwen<\/p>\n<p>Obviously actual quotes, bible studies, etc., are the best, but are more difficult to find.<\/p>\n<p>One other suggestion if I could.\u00a0 Sadly, people are lazy and do not study much anymore.\u00a0 Therefore, books, materials, web sites (many I\u2019ve seen), etc., must be simple, well organized, and easy to understand, etc.\u00a0 Some books I\u2019ve read are too intellectual for the average person and the writing is not well organized enough to follow the line of thinking and conclusions the author intends. Also, references, subjects must be easy to find.
