{"id":17943,"date":"2015-08-28T08:32:48","date_gmt":"2015-08-28T12:32:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/?p=17943"},"modified":"2025-07-20T05:41:37","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T12:41:37","slug":"aclu-peyote-smoaclu-peyote-smokers-not-cake-bakers-deserve-their-freedom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/aclu-peyote-smoaclu-peyote-smokers-not-cake-bakers-deserve-their-freedom\/","title":{"rendered":"ACLU: Peyote smokers, not cake bakers, deserve their freedom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-15767\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/american-flag-500x285.jpg\" alt=\"american-flag\" width=\"209\" height=\"119\" \/>By Charlie Butts<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> OneNewsNow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">A number of far-left organizations have united behind a dangerous and dubious effort \u2013 to stifle religious freedom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">Organizations that include the ACLU and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State want President Obama to revise a 2007 memorandum allowing federal grant programs to practice their faith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">The memo interprets the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which was signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1993.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">Mat Staver of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liberty Counsel<\/a>\u00a0warns that those groups want to force religious-based groups to drop their religious-based hiring practices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">&#8220;Now that is unconscionable,&#8221; says Staver, &#8220;and I wouldn&#8217;t doubt whether this administration would listen to them and use this as an excuse to change this memo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">President Obama has already issued an executive order requiring government contractors to hire homosexuals, even if it violates the contractor&#8217;s faith.
