NEW YORK (AP)<\/strong>\u2014Legendary actor and producer Kirk Douglas has received an early 100th birthday present\u2014an award from the World Jewish Congress for his strong support for Israel, including starring in the first Hollywood feature film shot in the newly established nation.<\/p>\n

Ronald Lauder, the organization\u2019s president, said Douglas, who was born Issur Danielovitch on Dec. 9, 1916, was \u201calways proud of his Jewish roots.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pointed to Douglas\u2019s starring roles as a Holocaust survivor in the 1953 movie \u201cJuggler,\u201d which was filmed in Israel, and as Jewish US Army Col.
