{"id":7979,"date":"2011-12-14T23:44:19","date_gmt":"2011-12-15T03:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/?p=7979"},"modified":"2026-08-20T11:11:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T18:11:08","slug":"a-world-political-authority-for-the-global-financial-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/a-world-political-authority-for-the-global-financial-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"A World Political Authority for the Global Financial Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Carl Teichrib<br \/>\nKjos Ministries Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vatican\u2019s Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace released a document, October 24, 2011, titled <em>Towards Reforming the International Financial and Monetary System in the Context of a Global Public Authority.<\/em> <em>[Note: Quotes taken from the Pontifical document are found throughout this article, and are not listed as per endnote due to the repetitious nature.] <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This latest offering from the Vatican claims that, \u201cevery individual and every community shares in and is responsible for promoting the common good.\u201d This nebulous phrase leads to a further reflection; the document asks \u201cwhether the human family has adequate means at its disposal to achieve the global common good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such a statement begs some questions; <strong>who determines the common good<\/strong>, how is it met, and what institution provides guidance and ensures compliance? Would this not be the domain of a world government?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Resting on the past recommendations of Pope John XXIII and Benedict XVI, a \u201cworld political authority\u201d is exactly what is needed, according to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. \u201cThe establishment of a world political Authority should be preceded by a preliminary phase of consultation from which a legitimated institution will emerge that is in a position to be an effective guide,\u201d explained the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then once operational, this \u201csupranational institution\u201d would work in a way \u201cconsistent with the pre-eminent value of human dignity\u201d within a globalized society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossroad.to\/images\/11\/chart\/law-workers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"345\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\"\/>\u201cIn a world on its way to rapid globalization, the reference to a world Authority becomes the only horizon compatible with the new realities of our time and the needs of humankind.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was explained that, in order to keep this \u201cworld authority\u201d from become a dangerous bureaucracy, the <strong>principle of subsidiarity<\/strong> would &#8220;<strong>govern the relationship<\/strong>\u201d between the global authority, and regional and national entities.
