Labyrinths \u2013 Popping Up at Lots of Seminaries and Christian Colleges<\/strong><\/a>
\nWe believe that labyrinths will be showing up in more and more Protestant\/evangelical schools and churches as contemplative spirituality sinks its teeth into modern day Christianity, holding on for the long haul.<\/p>\n

An Epidemic of Apostasy \u2013 Christian Seminaries Must Incorporate \u201cSpiritual Formation\u201d to Become Accredited <\/strong><\/a>
\nThe future of Christian theological schools is bleak. In many cases, they are the most dangerous places for Christians to be, from a biblical point of view. Already scores of them are implementing contemplative spirituality, via Spiritual Formation programs, into the lives of their students. And remember, these students are the evangelical\/Protestant church\u2019s future pastors, youth pastors,Sunday school teachers, professors, and leaders. Thanks to ATS and ABHE, there\u2019s little doubt that a growing number of Christian seminaries and colleges will join the ranks of contemplative-promoting schools.<\/p>\n

Northwestern College in Iowa Added to Contemplative College List \u2013 Teaching Students \u201cCentering Prayer\u201d with Labyrinths <\/strong><\/a>
\nNorthwestern College, located in Orange City, Iowa, a Reformed (Calvinist) college, is promoting contemplative spirituality and spiritual formation, and in no small way. Just as one example, on their home page, they list upcoming chapel services. On October 20th, they will be holding one titled \u201cCentering Prayer.\u201d On their \u201cDiscipleship\u201d page, they talk about centering prayer as well, stating: \u201cYou\u2019ll be able to explore new ways to pray by walking our prayerlabyrinth or participating in Centering Prayer or 24-hour prayer vigils.\u201d<\/p>\n

Letter to Editor: Is Colorado Christian University a Contemplative School? <\/strong><\/a>
\nTo Lighthouse Trails: I am looking at colleges and it is really important to me that I find a college that will not have bad theology, is contemplative, new age, etc. I went onto your website and found the list of colleges that are contemplative and Colorado Christian University was among them.<\/p>\n

Looking for a Christian College This Fall? Better Think Carefully About Which One to Attend <\/strong><\/a>
\nAs Lighthouse Trails has reported over the last several years, a growing number of evangelical\/Protestant colleges, seminaries, and universities are integrating contemplative spirituality and emerging ideologies into their schools. If you, or someone you know, are currently looking for a Christian school, we beseech you to check potential schools very carefully. Ask to see textbook lists, search their websites to see if they have spiritual formation programs, and find out who speaks at their student chapels. It would also be a good idea to contact the school chaplain and ask some good questions.<\/p>\n

Rick Warren Addresses Students at Liberty University <\/strong><\/a>
\nA best-selling author and founder of one of America\u2019s largest churches visited one local hometown Monday.
\nRick Warren was in Lynchburg, speaking to students at Liberty University. During convocation Monday morning, Warren encouraged students to let God use their lives for a greater purpose<\/p>\n

Veritas Seminary Conference Teacher, Lee Strobel, a \u201cSupporter\u201d of Son\u2019s Heavily Contemplative Ministry <\/strong><\/a>
\nLee Strobel is one of the most well-read Christian authors today. He is also one of the conference speaking teachers for Veritas Evangelical Seminary (co-founder Norm Geisler *see bottom of post), which is located on the Calvary Chapel Bible College grounds in California. Strobel is also a strong supporter of his son\u2019s (Kyle Strobel) very contemplative ministry called Metamorpha. On the Metamorpha website, Lee Strobel islisted as a \u201csupporter\u201d of Metamorpha. Strobel\u2019s public support of Metamorpha will bring much attention to Kyle\u2019s ministry and in turn pointing many unsuspecting people toward contemplative spirituality.<\/p>\n

Students Fight for Homosexual Rights on Christian Campuses . . . And Emerging Church Leaders Must Share Blame <\/strong><\/a>
\nThe New York Times article below, stating how more and more students attending Christian colleges are \u201ccoming out of the closet\u201d and trying to get their Christian schools to accept and embrace the homosexual lifestyle, has come as no surprise to Lighthouse Trails. And we believe much of this occurrence can be attributed to contemplative emerging spirituality leaders and teachers.<\/p>\n

Bryan and Hope Colleges Added to Contemplative Christian School List <\/strong><\/a>
\nBryan College has been added to our list of Christian colleges and seminaries that promote contemplative\/spiritual formation. We also added Hope College of Holland, Michigan to our contemplative list today. A look at their 2010 textbook list shows evidence that the teachers at Hope College are turning to contemplative advocates to teach Hope College students. One of the books being used is Adele Ahlberg Calhoun\u2019s book Handbook in Spiritual Disciplines. Lighthouse Trails has included information about Ms. Calhoun\u2019s book in a number of articles because this book is packed with references and quotes by New Age eastern-style mystics and because Rick Warren includes this book in his own list of worthy reads.<\/p>\n

The \u201cNew\u201d Emerging Theology Breeds Atheism in a Generation of Young People <\/strong><\/a>
\nOne day we received a call from one of our readers who wanted to share some news concerning his pastor\u2019s son. He told us the son, after sitting under Dallas Willard for four years in university, declared himself to now be an atheist. How could this have happened? The boy was raised in a Christian home. Dallas Willard claims to be a Christian. While we do not know the details of this boy\u2019s story, the following fictionalized account could very well be his story and that of many other young Christians today.<\/p>\n

Lincoln Christian College and Seminary (IL) Changes Name, But Still Promotes Contemplative Spirituality <\/strong><\/a>
\nToday we received the following email from a concerned Lighthouse Trails reader. We believe it is worth noting to help warn those who are looking for good Christian colleges to attend that Lincoln promotes spiritual formation (i.e., contemplative spirituality).<\/p>\n

A Book Every Christian College Student Should Read<\/strong> <\/a>
\nIf you know someone who is considering entering a Christian college or seminary or someone who is already enrolled in one, we encourage you to get that person a copy of Castles in the Sand.
