An election year battle to convince American voters\u00a0 that President Obama has been a steadfast friend of Israel \u2013 or\u00a0 alternatively, that he’s been the most anti-Israel president in decades \u2013 heated up at\u00a0 the weekend, coinciding with Obama\u2019s address to the a pro-Israel\u00a0 conference ahead of a White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister\u00a0 Binyamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n

Obama urged the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)\u00a0 policy conference in Washington, D.C., to disregard Republican criticism\u00a0 of his record, citing arms sales to Israel and what he characterized as\u00a0 robust support for Israel at the United Nations. . . .<\/p>\n

Republican Jewish Coalition executive director Matthew Brooks said\u00a0 the strong rhetoric did not match his administration\u2019s \u201cweak record.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObama\u2019s deeds include unprecedented pressure on Israel not to build\u00a0 in its eternal capital of Jerusalem, cutting critical military aid to\u00a0 joint U.S.-Israel missile defense program in a time of need, adopting as\u00a0 U.S. policy the Palestinian demand that Israel accept \u20181967 borders\u00a0 with land swaps\u2019 as the basis for a final settlement, and failing to\u00a0 holding Palestinian leaders accountable for their refusal to keep their\u00a0 peace-process commitments,\u201d he said.
