{"id":8906,"date":"2012-03-06T17:35:34","date_gmt":"2012-03-06T21:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/?p=8906"},"modified":"2020-03-17T00:46:49","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T06:46:49","slug":"presbyterian-church-in-colorado-votes-to-break-from-denomination-over-homosexual-ordination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/presbyterian-church-in-colorado-votes-to-break-from-denomination-over-homosexual-ordination\/","title":{"rendered":"Presbyterian Church in Colorado Votes to Break from Denomination Over Homosexual Ordination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MARIA ST.LOUIS-SANCHEZ<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> The Gazette<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>COLORADO SPRINGS &#8211; In an historic move for First Presbyterian Church in downtown Colorado Springs,\u00a0 almost 90 percent of its membership voted Sunday to leave the church\u2019s main\u00a0 governing body in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is broken down is a common\u00a0 vision and a common purpose,\u201d Senior Pastor Jim Singleton told a standing-room\u00a0 only crowd at the church Sunday afternoon as he advocated for the split from the\u00a0 Presbyterian Church USA. \u201cWhen we look at the national organization, it no\u00a0 longer connects here.\u201d<br \/>\nSunday\u2019s vote was the culmination of 10 months of\u00a0 work by church leaders to distance themselves from the mainstream governing body\u00a0 of Presbyterian church in the United States, which voted in May 2011 to allow\u00a0 openly gay ministers to be ordained.
