{"id":9523,"date":"2012-06-27T09:32:55","date_gmt":"2012-06-27T13:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/?p=9523"},"modified":"2025-07-22T13:45:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T20:45:15","slug":"story-of-child-predator-jerry-sandusky-birth-mom-i-raised-questions-about-jerry-sandusky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com\/blog\/story-of-child-predator-jerry-sandusky-birth-mom-i-raised-questions-about-jerry-sandusky\/","title":{"rendered":"Story of Child Predator, Jerry Sandusky &#8211; Birth mom: I raised questions about Jerry Sandusky"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div id=\"reporter\"><strong>By MICHAEL RUBINKAM<\/strong><br \/><strong><em>Associated Press<\/em><\/strong>\n<div>Nearly two decades before Matt Sandusky&#8217;s blockbuster allegation that he was sexually abused by his adoptive father, his biological mother raised questions about their relationship.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debra Long fought the court system over her son&#8217;s placement in the home of the famed Penn State assistant football coach, who was convicted Friday of sexually abusing 10 boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her objections, which she discussed in a December interview with The Associated Press, add a new dimension to the grim trial testimony that illustrated how Sandusky wooed the victims he culled from his charity for at-risk youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors said Sandusky used gifts, trips and access to Penn State&#8217;s vaunted football program to attract and abuse vulnerable boys he met through the charity, The Second Mile.<br \/>&#8220;If they&#8217;d have listened, these boys didn&#8217;t have to be abused,&#8221; Long said. &#8220;They would have found the problem back then, and a whole lot of kids wouldn&#8217;t be victims now.&#8221;<br \/>Instead, she said, &#8220;we couldn&#8217;t get anything done. It was Jerry Sandusky. He started The Second Mile home.
