The Thomas Nelson publishing company has decided to cease publication and distribution of David Barton\u2019s controversial book, The Jefferson Lies: Exposing the Myths You\u2019ve Always Believed about Thomas Jefferson<\/em>, saying it has \u201clost confidence in the book\u2019s details.\u201d (See \u201cThe David Barton controversy,\u201d<\/a>Aug. 8.)<\/p>\n

Casey Francis Harrell, Thomas Nelson\u2019s director of corporate communications, told me the publishing house \u201cwas contacted by a number of people expressing concerns about [The Jefferson Lies<\/em>].\u201d The company began to evaluate the criticisms, Harrell said, and \u201cin the course of our review learned that there were some historical details included in the book that were not adequately supported. Because of these deficiencies we decided that it was in the best interest of our readers to stop the publication and distribution.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Jefferson Lies<\/em> no longer appears in searches on Thomas Nelson\u2019s website. Barton\u2019s own WallBuilders Press published most of his earlier books. Click here to <\/a>read more.<\/p>\n
