Compare contemplative prayer with mantra and decide if supported by contextual Scripture. Matthew 6:7 (KJV) is clear, leaving no doubt. Moreover, the word of mankind can cause confusion; search Scripture for Truth: Acts 17:11 (KJV).

Thank you Lighthouse Trails for your faithful stand against error! Discernment isn’t a very popular subject but necessary for all believers as this article proves. I pray YWAM will change their position on this false practice that is not found in scripture. This is religious syncretism. I personally believe that mysticism will eventually unite religions as barriers are broken down by deceiving spirits during meditative practices. Why look to mystics of the past or present to find what the scriptures are fully sufficient to teach about having a relationship with God? Keep up the good work!

Dear Lighthouse Trails, Thank you. We need to read the Word of God and pray for discernment. I briefly got caught up in the “holy” laughter movement back in the 90’s. I am so thankful I saw the falsehood in that movement and left. Just like contemplative prayer, it plays to the emotional experience. Not godly and indeed extremely dangerous. Contemplative prayer is an insidious and evil practice.

Be still know that I am God I’ve been practicing contemplation centering prayer for over 11 years I’ve gotten my start from father Keating ,Thomas Merton ,Saint John of the cross and Saint Tresa of Avila, the desert fathers of the second century. Now my interests are in eastern orthodox Christianity which seems to be the original untouched way

Danellia, you are wrong about this. The New Agers did not steal mantra meditation from Christianity. If it was originally with Christianity, where in Scripture does it instruct us to practice such a ritual? And if it was so important to the Christian life, as YWAM suggests, why didn’t Jesus, or the disciples, or the OT prophets ever teach this? For they never did. Please take a closer look at this Danellia. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have. You can call us at 406-889-3610 or e-mail at editors@lighthousetrails.com. I have no problem with contemplative prayer. The new agers stole it from us… we are redeeming it. The redeeming of cultures is being misrepresented in this article. As a ex ywamer I say way to go YWAM. You have my respect and support.
