Remember That We Are Pilgrims . . . Elections 2020
By Bill Randles

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. ( 1 Peter 2:11; emphasis added)

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.( Hebrews 11:8-10; emphasis added)

No matter what happens in the Political realm, I offer this short piece to remind my precious brothers and sisters in Messiah that we are all called to be Pilgrims. We are only passing through and will find no lasting home in this world, for we are being fitted and prepared for the next one.

All of us have heard Jesus’ voice which has called us up to somewhere and something so much higher and purer than anything this World has to offer. The apostle encourages us:

The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18)

We don’t know what will happen in the next few days. Obviously, I have personal preferences: I don’t want to be ruled by the Left with its anti-Life platform, but it might please God to allow this to happen; and should it happen, we should rejoice, knowing our pilgrimage may be daring to a close.

It could also be that the so-called “right” could prevail and that it could become just as despotic as the so-called left would like to be. Who knows? A Pilgrim cannot rely on anything in this fallen world except the inevitability of human depravity and hostility to God and His people.

Only God knows. We just have to set our sights on the LORD and His eternal Heaven.

I was told this morning that the “Lockdown” imposed upon the UK is so severe, church meetings are now forbidden. I know a good many precious and faith-filled believers there who will not bow down to such an unjust edict. I assure you all there, we are praying for you. It just might please God to call upon us to offer various degrees of sacrifice for the cause of Truth.

Remember, we are Pilgrims, sojourners, and exiles. Our true home is in Heaven. We come from a long line of others who heard the heavenly call and who left all to follow the One who had no place in this Earth to lay his head (Luke 9:58).

We have no desire for things to get worse, nor to suffer, for we are not “Super Christians” (there is no such creature); we are merely redeemed men and women who love Jesus Christ. I don’t want to suffer, but there is something I dread more – I don’t want to deny my LORD when it is my turn to stand up and be counted with Him with our brother and sister Pilgrims throughout the world and over the centuries.

Casper ten Boom

I am often comforted by a story Corrie Ten Boom told in her book The Hiding Place. She was raised in a devoutly Christian family, and her father, Casper, was a rock of faith. Casper had read the Foxe’s Book Of Martyrs to Corrie and her sisters when they were little girls, and the thought of martyrdom disturbed Corrie. She confided in her father that she was afraid of death and was quite sure she did not have the strength to be a martyr. Corrie’s father reminded her of the train ride to Amsterdam. “When you take a train trip to Amsterdam, when do I give you the money for the ticket? Three weeks before?”

“No, Daddy, you give me the money for the ticket just before we get on the train.”

“That is right,” her father said; “and so it is with God’s strength. Our Father in Heaven knows when you will need the strength . . . He will supply all you need just in time.”

Our God is good. He knows what is going on, and He cares. A sparrow cannot fall out of a tree without His loving notice, and you and I are worth more than many sparrows. I hope this song (words by John Bunyan) will minister to you as it does me: He Who Would Valiant Be.

"He Who Would Valiant Be"

By John Bunyan

He who would valiant be

'Gainst all disaster

Let him in constancy

Follow the Master

There's no discouragement

Shall make him once relent

His first avowed intent

To be a pilgrim

Who so beset him round

With dismal stories

Do but themselves confound

His strength the more is

No foes shall stay his might

Though he with giants fight

He will make good his right

To be a pilgrim

Since, Lord, Thou dost defend

Us with Thy Spirit

We know we at the end

Shall life inherit

Then fancies flee away!

I'll fear not what men say

I'll labour night and day

To be a pilgrim

The High Cost of Spiritual Discernment
By Bob Kirkland
(Pastor Kirkland is the author of the Lighthouse Trails book, Calvinism: None Dare Call It Heresy)

God offers no cheap discipleship program. In Luke chapter
fourteen, the Lord gave three reasons why we cannot be His
disciple. He warned His followers to “count the cost”:

  • Christ said if family or even our own lives are more
important than truth, we cannot be His disciple (Luke 14:26).
  • If we refuse to bear the cross He gives us to bear, we
cannot be His disciple (Luke 14:27).
  • If we are not willing to forsake all that we have,
we cannot be His disciple (Luke 14:33).

Discernment only comes from God, and He will not give discernment to anyone who is not willing to pay the price to be His disciple. Therefore, the first thing one who wants discernment must do is decide if he or she is willing to pay the price. Beware—it is very expensive.

The First Step to Discernment Is to Earnestly Pray for Discernment

The phrase “teach me” occurs in fifteen prayers in the Word of God.
Fourteen of them were prayers from the “man after God’s own heart,”
and one time the words came from Job who was not talking to God
but was talking to one of his critics. Job was humble enough to learn
even from his critics. Discernment is costly. It begins with humility.

The Second Step to Discernment Is an Earnest Desire for the Truth

The only source of total truth is the Word of God. The only way to
discern the truth concerning the things we read in God’s Word is to
genuinely allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into “all truth” (John 16:13).
This means we are not looking for Scriptures to support what we
already think we know about any issue. It also means we will not be
concerned about what our peers think. We genuinely want the truth.
This will most likely cost you some friends; however, the gift of
discernment is costly.

The Third Step to Discernment Is Applying the Truth

The Psalmist prayed, “Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth:
unite my heart to fear thy name” (Psalm 86:11). Notice that the prayer includes “I will walk in thy truth.” This might include that you will need to admit that you have been wrong about some issue.

Discernment is costly.  Count the cost before you go seeking discernment. Discernment put Noah and his family against the entire world. Discernment totally changed the lifestyle of Abraham. It caused Enoch to walk alone and Joseph to be hated by his brothers, sold as a slave, and spend many years in a dungeon. It put Moses on the backside of the desert and the three Hebrew children in the furnace. Discernment caused all of the disciples to be hated and Paul to be lied about, whipped, imprisoned, and forsaken by most Christians.

This is why Christ took His disciples up on the mountain at the beginning of their ministry and explained the true cost of discipleship. He said being His disciples would take them on the narrow path and warned them ahead of time that “few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:14).

God offers no cheap discipleship program.

CDC Data Suggest Lockdowns Could Kill As Many People As COVID
By Karl Dierenbach
The Federalist

Three-hundred-fifty years ago, John Graunt attempted to give Londoners an accurate assessment of fatality rates of diseases in the community so people could understand their risk level. Until COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) fulfilled the same role.

Then the CDC abandoned tradition and sensibility and treated COVID differently than every other disease. For a death to be considered a COVID death, COVID no longer needed to be the immediate or underlying cause of death. Now, a death is considered a COVID death even if COVID was only a contributing condition. . . .

This is all not to say that COVID is a hoax or it’s not that bad. COVID has clearly been devastating and, even at 160,000 deaths so far as adjusted above, it is twice as bad as the worst flu seasons in recent memory. But our reaction has turned a bad pandemic into an unrivaled self-inflicted, full-scale national disaster.

In the end, it won’t be COVID, but our reaction to it, that will go down as the most deadly and damaging event of 2020. Click here to read entire article.

Update on U.S. Political Prisoner, Philip Zodhiates
Philip Zodhiates and his wife

LTRJ Note: This is an update from Janet Stasulli, who has been working to raise support and awareness for Philip Zodhiates and Isabella and her mother Lisa Miller. Many of you are familiar with this case. If not, click here for some background story. If you would like to help financially with this situation, there is a link below. And the Zodhiates and Miller families would greatly appreciate your prayers. You can also write to Philip at:

Mr. Philip Zodhiates   18649-084

Federal Correctional Institution
P.O. Box 6001
Ashland, KY 41105

To All Concerned:

Depositions are set this fall for the civil case arising from the criminal cases. Janet Jenkins is suing anyone and everyone involved with Lisa since 2008. I am one – I am Co-Founder and President of 419 Fund, which is raising funds for Isabella as well as Philip Zodhiates. Philip is sitting in a prison cell in Ashland, KY serving his 3-year prison sentence for giving Lisa and Isabella a ride from Lynchburg, VA to Buffalo, NY – a kind Christian gesture – now criminalized in America. Lisa had full custody of her daughter (biological, mind you), no travel restrictions and full possession of their passports – she could have legally gone any where in the world. NO CRIMES WERE COMMITTED.

The Titanic and Today’s Church—The “Perfect” Storm

By Warren B. Smith

At 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic—the biggest, grandest ship of its time—collided with an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City. Less than three hours later the seemingly unsinkable ship did the unthinkable—it sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. Of the more than 2200 passengers and crew aboard, over 1500 people lost their lives. The shipwreck was one of the first global news events, and the worldwide shock was equivalent to that of the 9/11 World Trade Center disaster nearly a century later. Over the ensuing years, hundreds of books have been written about this infamous “Ship of Dreams,” its lessons, and how “perfect storm” circumstances seemed to conspire to make sure that anything that could possibly go wrong, did go wrong.

One of those testifying at the United States Senate Inquiry regarding the disaster, described the events surrounding Titanic’s end as “a very deceiving night.”1 Nineteen hundred years previous, Jesus Christ described the period before the world’s end as a very deceiving “night.” He said, “the night” is coming “when no man can work” (John 9:4). He stated that spiritual deception—not spiritual revival—would be the chief sign preceding His return (Matthew 24:3-4). He warned that “false Christs” and “false prophets” would “arise,” and their deceptive “signs and wonders” would be so “great” that, “if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Matthew 24:5, 11, 24).

In reading about and reflecting upon the Titanic and the deadly iceberg that took it down, one is reminded of the Bible’s prophetic warnings about Antichrist and his Antichrist system—the coming “beast” that will “rise up out of the sea” to deceive and destroy:

And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. (Revelation 13:1)

It has been well-documented how design flaws, tragic oversights, false confidence, complacency, pride, greed, denial, disregarded warnings, missed messages, and unpreparedness all played a part in the Titanic shipwreck: How those in charge had underestimated the physical danger that was in their midst. Sadly, undiscerning church leaders today share many of these same characteristics as they similarly underestimate the spiritual danger in their midst.

While Titanic lookout Frederick Fleet shouted out his “Iceberg right ahead!” warning a moment too late, today’s church leaders are issuing almost no warnings at all regarding spiritual deception (1 Corinthians 14:8). Yet God, through His infinite grace and prophetic Word, has already issued His “iceberg warnings” for just “such a time as this”—“Spiritual deception right ahead!” (Matthew 24:3-5), “False prophets, false teachers, false teachings right ahead!” (2 Peter 2:1), “Strong delusion with all power and signs and lying wonders right ahead!” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-11), “Deceptive peace and safety right ahead!” (1 Thessalonians 5:3), “A beast rising up out of the sea right ahead!” (Revelation 13:1).

The six wireless warnings sent to the Titanic on the day of its tragic collision were not warning about a possible ice field that might lie before them. They were warning about a specific ice field that did lie before them. In a similar manner, Scripture doesn’t warn about a possible Antichrist figure that might “rise up” in the world, but about a specific Antichrist and Antichrist system that will “rise up” in the world. This Antichrist will be a most deceptive false Christ figure. He will not only come in his own name pretending to be Christ (John 5:43), but he will actually oppose the true Christ—Jesus Christ—and all that He stands for (Daniel 8:25).

The Titanic—despite all those “last day” warnings—did not escape its deadly encounter with the iceberg. In similar fashion, the world and a deceived professing church—despite all the Bible’s “last days” warnings—will not escape its deadly encounter with Antichrist and his Antichrist system (Revelation 13).

2020 – Covid 19 and World Crisis. What Next?
By Tony Pearce
Light For the Last Days Ministries

It’s been a grim year for the human race.  The Covid 19 pandemic has affected almost every nation on earth, causing many to die and millions to live in fear of catching the virus, as well as lockdowns of society and all the problems which have followed: loss of jobs, family stress, limits of freedom to travel and meet together in public.  In the poorer countries of the world many have been driven to extreme poverty and starvation.  As nations pile up massive debts as a result of the lockdown, there are warnings of economic turmoil, inflation and a recession going way beyond the 2008 financial crisis. Extreme weather events have caused droughts and colossal fires, storms and floods which have destroyed lives, homes and crops.

Many people are noting the connection between current events and Bible prophecies concerning the end of days: a global pandemic (Luke 21.11), increase in wars, famines, earthquakes and pestilence (Matthew 24.7-8).  If we follow through Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 24, we see that these things are prophesied for the beginning of sorrows period that will lead to the ‘Great Tribulation’, a unique time of trouble that will precede His return to the earth.  The Book of Revelation chapters 6-19 expands on this time of trouble, a seven year period during which a new form of government will arise controlled by one known as the Beast or the Antichrist who will himself be under the control of the devil.  This government will demand submission and suppress and persecute all opposition, especially from believers in Jesus Christ (Revelation 13.4-10). . . .

He will have a brief period of absolute power (3 ½ years) during which time he will control people through a new economic system in which they will need a number and a mark to buy and sell:

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

This prophecy has been the subject of speculation throughout history with many claims that it has arrived or is about to arrive.  Until our time no one has fitted the Bible’s description of the Antichrist and his programme.  Although we do not yet see him in person, we do see signs that the kind of society prophesied here in Revelation could be on its way.  Let us look at how this fits in with what is happening now and what is being planned for the future.

Limits to freedom.

In Britain the government imposed lockdown in March stopped all ‘unnecessary social contact’, making people stay at home, closing offices, shops, schools, and social venues.  Then we had some easing of the lockdown over the Summer.  Now, as the statistics show a rise in cases, we are being slammed into reverse as doom laden ‘experts’ issue warnings of thousands of casualties and a second full lockdown.  More restrictions on normal life have come in with the ‘rule of six’ limiting social and family contacts. This will be in place for at least six months.  Many firms, restaurants, sporting facilities and theatres face being wiped out.  More people will die as a result of treatment of other diseases being limited in hospitals than would die from Covid 19, which has a lower death rate than ordinary flu and pneumonia.

Many people fear that the situation is being used as a means of controlling the population and that the government is being driven by scientists who are exaggerating the dangers and outside forces who are using it to bring down our economy and way of life and bring in a New World Order in which personal freedom will be lost. Click here to continue reading.

Donating to Lighthouse Trails

SUPPORTING LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS: For those who would like to support Lighthouse Trails, we always appreciate both your prayers and your giving. And for those who have faithfully done that over the years, we thank you with all of our hearts. We know that some people may have the impression that Lighthouse Trails does quite well financially because we sell products that we publish and because our resources have had such a far reach; but, the truth is, it takes everything made through sales to keep Lighthouse Trails operating. Publishing, at least for small presses such as ours, is rarely a high-profit business. It would take a best seller to see that, one that the masses of people love. And because we are not just a business, but even more so a ministry, we keep our prices as low as we can, give away many resources, and have also made much of our material available for free on the research site and blog. That's not how big corporations run things as that would hurt the bottom line (profit), but we see the needs out there, and we trust God to keep us going as long as He sees fit.

We thank you in advance for seeing the value in a ministry like Lighthouse Trails and coming along side us with your prayers and support.

It is our prayer that we will faithfully be humble servants of the Lord’s work for years to come should the Lord tarry. If you would like to donate to Lighthouse Trails, you may send a donation by mailing it to: Lighthouse Trails, P.O. Box 908, Eureka, MT 59917. Or you may call 866/876-3910. A note to our Canadian readers: As many of you know, in 2019, we were informed by the Canadian government that some of our booklets cannot be sent across the border into Canada because they would be considered "hate propaganda" according to recent Canadian law changes on homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and transgenderism. However, we also learned that it is currently not illegal for Canadians to have possession of these booklets (we just can't send them across the border).
