“Inside the Brewing Fed–State Showdown at the Texas Border”
By Darlene McCormick Sanchez
The Epoch Times

EAGLE PASS, Texas—A humble city park on the Texas side of the Mexican border has taken the national stage in a showdown between Texas and the federal government.

Texas National Guard seized Shelby Park on Jan. 10 and placed a wire gate at the entrance, blocking U.S. Border Patrol agents from entering.

The 47-acre park, owned by the city of Eagle Pass, was being used as a staging area for Border Patrol agents under the direction of the Biden administration to process a massive wave of thousands of illegal immigrants crossing the Rio Grande in December.

Now, the drainage area inside the park, once teeming with illegal immigrants, is empty; the Rio Grande flows silently, mostly undisturbed by illegal crossings at the end of January on a rare rainy day in south Texas. Click here to continue reading.

“Radio ministry drops pastor over same-sex wedding comments”

By Steve Jordahl, Billy Davis
American Family News

After it learned of his controversial comments about homosexuality, American Family Radio is parting ways with well-known church pastor Alistair Begg and his daily radio program “Truth For Life.”

In a September podcast on his website, Begg discussed the issue of a Christian attending a same-sex wedding. The pastor said he was asked that question by a grandmother regarding her homosexual grandson. She was told by Begg if the homosexual couple knows of your commitment to Christ, and that you cannot approve of their union, then attend the wedding. Click here to continue reading.

A federal court in Canada has ruled that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act against protesters in 2022 was unconstitutional, according to a judicial review released on Tuesday.

Trudeau utilized the Emergencies Act to stop truckers from protesting against the Canadian government’s COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and vaccine mandates. Trudeau’s use of the act was not legal and “not justified,” Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley wrote in the decision, according to the Canadian Constitutional Foundation (CCF).  Click here to continue reading.

It’s been quite a week in my country…

Although it’s always close to my mind, I don’t often post about C-vid and my country/province’s morbid over-reaction, my experiences during the thick of it, or the lessons learned… but this week an exceptional event occurred. The Emergencies Act, invoked two years ago to supposedly protect the nation against those “holding unacceptable views,” was deemed illegal by a federal judge. Wonderful!

The Liberal Party, of course, will take this to the Supreme Court; they have to, for the ramifications are truly unprecedented. And they very well may win at that level, for although the Court is supposed to be unbiased, it’s weighted with Liberal appointed judges – and this entire fiasco has demonstrated that impartiality means nothing.

And then the Liberal Minister of Justice stepped down…

In all of this there’s a double-edged reality; I’m very glad to see this charade crumble, yet at the same time, it reinforces the sad fact that our Federal government and its agencies – including the RCMP – along with the mainstream media and the banks who seized private trucker/supporter accounts, are untrustworthy when it comes to the most fundamental levels of liberty and law.

Calvinism’s “Perseverance of the Saints”—Eternal Security or Anguishing Doubt?
LTRP Note: The article below by Bob Kirkland is taken from his book, Calvinism: None Dare Call It Heresy (Lighthouse Trails). Over the years, Lighthouse Trails has witnessed how many people call themselves Calvinist largely because they believe in eternal security for true believers in Christ and they think that Calvinist teachings support eternal security because of the “P” in T.U.L.I.P. In actuality, as Kirkland shows, Calvinism does not offer or provide assurance of salvation. Thus, those who call themselves Calvinist primarily for their belief in eternal security should reconsider their “Calvinist” label.

By Bob Kirkland

The word perseverance is found only once in the Scriptures. Ephesians 6:18 commands the believer to be, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” This verse is speaking of perseverance in prayer and has nothing to do with persevering unto salvation. The dictionary meaning as well as the meaning of the Greek word here is to hold to or adhere to a course of action.1

CALVIN’S PERSEVERANCE IS NOT ETERNAL SECURITY

Many Christians wrongly assume that the Calvinist theory of “the perseverance of the saints” [the “P” in T.U.L.I.P.] is synonymous with the doctrine of eternal security. The biblical doctrine of eternal security teaches that one who has been truly saved by God’s grace is kept eternally saved by God’s grace. God has not left our eternal destiny in our ability to persevere. For God to do that would result in a salvation by works.

Citing Augustine, John Calvin wrote, “[T]hose who do not persevere unto the end belong not to the calling of God.”2

Calvin also stated:

[W]hat they [the Christians at Corinth] had attained so far is nothing, unless they keep steadily on; because it is not enough that they once started off on the way of the Lord, if they do not make an effort to reach the goal.3

In Calvinist author A. W. Pink’s book Practical Christianity, Pink taught, “[I]f there is a reserve in your obedience, you are on the road to hell.”4

Pink also said:

Something more than believing in Christ is necessary to ensure the soul’s reaching Heaven.5

Reformed minister John Otis states that, “maintaining an unforgiving spirit . . . will surely destroy our souls in hell.”6

In his book, The Doctrine of Sanctification, A. W. Pink stated:

[H]oliness in this life is such a part of our “salvation” that it is a necessary means to make us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in heavenly light and glory.7

Calvinist theologian and co-founder of the Westminster Theological Seminary, Dr. John Murray states:

[L]et us appreciate the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints and recognize that we may entertain the faith of our security in Christ only as we persevere in faith and holiness to the end.8

DID THE MAN GOD USED TO WRITE OVER FIFTY CHAPTERS OF THE BIBLE NOT PERSEVERE?

For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods . . . his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel . . . he kept not that which the LORD commanded. (1 Kings 11:4,9,10)

The man whom God used to write Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon turned away from God into idolatry and apostasy.

As noted, A. W. Pink said, “If there is a reserve in your obedience, you are on the road to hell.” How do Calvinists put this all together? Would they have us believe God predestined an unsaved (“non-elect”) man to write Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon and then when He was finished with him sent him to Hell?

WHAT ABOUT SAINTS WHO DIDN’T PERSEVERE?

First Corinthians 1:2 tells us this letter was written, “Unto the church.” It says they were “saints.” How does Calvin’s perseverance of the saints fit in with these saints God repeatedly referred to as “carnal”?

First Corinthians 5:13 commands the saints at the local church in Corinth to, “put away from among yourselves that wicked person.” The fact that they were not dealing with sin in their church is an example of the saints not persevering because the whole church was guilty of not dealing with a serious matter.

In the seven churches in Revelation, only one was found acceptable. By Calvin’s guidelines, the members of all these churches were going to Hell.

The Bible has many specific examples of believers who did not persevere according to John Calvin’s theory.

Noah got drunk, Abraham was a liar, Jacob schemed, Samson failed, David fell into sin and was responsible for the death of a man, Moses didn’t follow God’s instructions and was not allowed to enter the promised land, John Mark quit, Peter cursed and denied Christ, and all the disciples forsook Jesus. The list goes on and on. Yet, A. W. Pink said, “If there is a reserve in your obedience, you are on the road to hell.” That means all these people were on the road to Hell! And where does that leave us?

There is actually no eternal security in the doctrine of the “perseverance of the saints” because no one can ever know—even at the end of his life—if he had really persevered enough. And from a biblical standpoint, saints persevering for salvation are on extremely dangerous ground; as the apostle Paul points out, if you are depending on your works, works will not save you.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. . . .

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. (Galatians 2:16, 21)

Calvinists believe the “perseverance of the saints” offers them eternal security, but in actuality, it brings them more insecurity than ever regarding their salvation. Here, the persevering is left up to the strength of the believer rather than resting on the promises of God that assure us eternal life is based on what He has already done, not what we do. It is our part to believe, repent, and put our trust in Him and His part to save and preserve us.

Eternal security does not give believers permission to sin any more than the fathers of the faith, who stumbled, had an excuse for their sins and failures. However, the wonder of the Cross is that our sins are fully paid for—paid in full. Jesus said, “It is finished.” Our redemption has been entirely purchased. We can rest in the assurance of salvation that the Gospel offers, as expressed by the apostles and prophets. But Calvinism, while it claims to be wholly dependent on the grace of God for salvation, has actually turned everything upside down with the teaching of the “perseverance of the saints,” making salvation a works-based religion where grace is not truly grace. With Calvinism, the responsibility of salvation is put on the believer thereby nullifying grace altogether. Paul explained this when he said:

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. (Romans 11:6)

NO ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

Even John Calvin himself did not possess assurance of salvation. Writing in his will shortly before his death in 1564, he declared:

I testify also and profess that I humbly seek from God, that He may so will me to be washed and purified by the great Redeemer’s blood, shed for the sins of the human race, that it may be permitted me to stand before His tribunal under the covert of the Redeemer Himself.9 (italics in original)

John 3:36 says:

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Calvin taught that he could not believe unless God first regenerated him and gave him faith to believe. It is not surprising, therefore, that Calvin or any Calvinist cannot have an assurance of salvation and, therefore, he must adhere to his perseverance of the saints theory.

No Calvinist can be sure of his salvation because he might be predestined just to think he is saved. After all, playing little head games with people would not be wrong for Calvin’s “God” since Calvin’s “God” is glorified by sending billions of people who had no choice to Hell for eternity.

MORE CALVINISTS ON PERSEVERANCE

Calvinist pastor John Murray says:

[W]e may entertain the faith of our security in Christ only as we persevere in faith and holiness to the end.10

How much holiness? Are we talking about sinless perfection? Calvinist theologian Charles Hodge (1797-1878), in referring to evidence of being elected, said:

The only evidence of election is effectual calling, that is, the production of holiness. And the only evidence of the genuineness of this call and the certainty of our perseverance, is a patient continuance in well doing.11

Again, John Murray stated:

The perseverance of the saints reminds us very forcefully that only those who persevere to the end are truly saints.12

In the perseverance discussion, John MacArthur states that “you may be a spiritual defector who hasn’t defected yet.”13

“I WAS TERRIFIED!”

In an article titled “Assurance of Salvation,” the highly popular Calvinist teacher, the late R. C. Sproul (d. 2017) wrote:

A while back I had one of those moments . . . suddenly the question hit me: “R. C., what if you are not one of the redeemed? What if your destiny is not heaven after all, but hell?” Let me tell you that I was flooded in my body with a chill that went from my head to the bottom of my spine. I was terrified.14

There is not a person in the world who believes what John Calvin taught who should not be terrified concerning the reality of his salvation.

Sproul continued:

I began to take stock of my life, and I looked at my performance. My sins came pouring into my mind, and the more I looked at myself the worse I felt. I thought, “Maybe it’s really true. Maybe I’m not saved after all.” . . . Then I remembered John 6:68. Jesus had been giving out hard teaching, and many of His former followers had left Him. When He asked Peter if he was also going to leave, Peter said, “Where else can we go? Only You have words of eternal life.” In other words, Peter was also uncomfortable, but he realized that being uncomfortable with Jesus was better than any other option.15

Uncomfortable with Jesus? This doesn’t line up with Scripture that promises peace with God and eternal life to those who believe in Jesus Christ and accept His sacrifice on the Cross as a penalty for their sins. Consider these passages:

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1)

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. (1 John 2:25)

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. (1 John 5:11)

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)

A. W. Pink’s “solution” for supporting Calvinism is to change the meaning of words to support his theory; Sproul’s “option” is to be “uncomfortable with Jesus,” which he considered “better than any other option.” It is very difficult to understand why any Christian with a basic understanding of the Scriptures would accept another gospel that is not only heretical and very dangerous but strips a believer of the assurance and peace that the Scriptures promise to “whosoever will.”

Out of Night
May 1944—Newly arrived Jews from Subcarpathian Rus get off the train in Auschwitz-Birkenau. (Credit: United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; used with permission.)

By Tony Pearce
Light for the Last Days

During the 1970s, Nikki and I used to go and talk to people involved in left-wing political groups about our faith. We made friends with some Jewish socialists who invited us along to a meeting of Young Mapam, a socialist Zionist group. The speaker was a man called Hyam Maccoby who gave a talk on Jesus as a Jewish revolutionary leader against the Romans. We pitched into the discussion afterwards, and some members of the group then invited us along to another meeting where they were going to read pieces of literature which meant something to them.

One of the readings was from a book by Elie Wiesel called Night about his experiences in Auschwitz. After the reading, someone asked us, “Where was God when the six million were killed?” I really did not know what to say, and so I went away to read Night for myself and think through the issues involved.

My first reaction after reading Night was, “How can I who was born when these events were already history, who has no trace of Jewish blood in my veins, presume to write about an experience so terrible, so far removed from my own experience of life and so painful to the Jewish people?” The answer which came to me was clear: “If you have no answer to the questions raised by this book, how can you claim that Jesus is the answer?”

The most eloquent statement of this despair is to be found in Night when the author, as a child, views Birkenau, the reception center for Auschwitz, for the first time:

Flames were leaping from a ditch, gigantic flames. They were burning something. A lorry drew up at the pit and delivered its load—little children. Babies! Yes, I saw it—saw it with my own eyes . . . those little children in the flames. (Is it surprising that I could not sleep after that? Sleep had fled from my eyes).

Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. . . . Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky. Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget those things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never.1

So where was God? When such appalling evils take place, is it still possible to believe in the concept of a just God, of a God who loves and cares about humanity? Facing this question is more than just an academic exercise. Cruel dictatorships, concentration camps, torture, and utter wickedness still hold sway in many parts of the Earth, and the Bible warns that in the last days evil men will grow worse and worse and that the whole world will ultimately come under the power of the Antichrist of whom Hitler was a major forerunner.

WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE?

The first question which must be asked is, “Who was responsible for creating the death camps and the Nazi terror—God or man?” In Night, Elie Wiesel describes the pious Jews in the camp holding services to worship God on Jewish holy days. This caused him to rage against God for allowing these death camps to exist. (As a point of information, the view expressed here represents Elie Wiesel’s reaction as a child to the horrors he was witnessing. Later as an adult, he maintained his belief in God.*):

Thousands of voices repeated the benediction; thousands of men prostrated themselves like trees before a tempest.

Blessed be the name of the Eternal!

Why, but why should I bless Him? In every fiber I rebelled. Because He had thousands of children burned in His pits? Because He kept six crematories working night and day, on Sundays and feast days? Because in His great might He had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many factories of death?2

This is a very understandable reaction to the enormous suffering of the camps. God is supposed to be in control of the universe; one finds oneself the victim of unbelievable wickedness and cruelty. God appears to be doing nothing about it; therefore, God must be responsible for the evil or just indifferent and powerless.

However, God did not create Auschwitz or any factories of death. People did, people who were motivated by Nazism, an ideology which expressed in its ideas and practice a rebellion against God on a hitherto unknown scale in human history. God did not create Auschwitz; He created human beings perfect, to live in peace and harmony with God and each other. However, since the Fall (Genesis 3), sin has reigned over the human race, and the hostile power of Satan has influenced humanity to rebel against God and disobey His commandments. We have come a long way from Cain taking Abel into the field to murder him to the concentration camps and the frightful weapons of destruction of our time. Nevertheless, the principle remains the same, and the problem remains the same—sin in the heart of human beings. As the Bible says:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (Mark 7:21-23)

For we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. . . . Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known. (Romans 3:9-12, 15-17)

Twentieth-century history testifies absolutely to this analysis of the human condition. It is significant that such an extreme manifestation of the evil in the human heart took place in a century which began with many people putting their trust in the innate goodness of humanity, the perfectibility of human nature, and the coming of a Golden Age of peace, prosperity, and tolerance through advances in science, education, and politics. What is more, it took place in a country whose contribution to European culture was enormous and which had produced some of the leading 19th century writers and philosophers, many of whom rejected God and placed their trust in man’s ability to save himself through his own efforts. If anything, the Nazi Holocaust should make us lose faith in this kind of optimistic humanism rather than the God of the Bible. This is the implication of the foreword to Night in which the French writer, Francois Mauriac writes about trainloads of Jewish children he saw being taken away from Paris during the Nazi occupation:

The dream which western man conceived in the 18th century, whose dawn he thought he saw in 1789 [the French Revolution], and which until August 2nd 1914 [the outbreak of the first world war], had grown stronger with the progress of enlightenment and the discoveries of science—this dream finally vanished from me before those trainloads of little children.3

 THE NAZIS AND GOD

Those who blame God for the Nazi Holocaust should note that the roots of the Nazi ideology lay in a definite rejection, indeed a bitter hatred of not just Judaism, but the God of the Bible and authentic Christianity. In this connection, it is interesting to note the following thoughts written by Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher who first proclaimed that “God is dead.”

That the strong races of Northern Europe have not repudiated the Christian God certainly reflects no credit on their talent for religion.4

[Speaking of the Christian concept of God] [T]he God of the “great majority,” the democrat among Gods [N.B. Nietzsche loathed democracy], has none the less not become a proud pagan God . . . he has remained the god of the nook, the God of all dark corners and places, of all the unhealthy quarters throughout the world!5

What is good?—All that heightens the feeling of power, the will to power, power itself in man. What is bad?—All that proceeds from weakness. What is happiness?—The feeling that power increases—that resistance is overcome. Not contentment, but more power; not peace at all, but war; not virtue, but proficiency. . . . The weak and ill-constituted shall perish: first principle of our philanthropy. And one shall help them to do so. What is more harmful than any vice?—Active sympathy for the weak and ill-constituted: Christianity.6

Christianity is called the religion of pity.—Pity stands in the antithesis to the tonic emotions which enhance the energy of the feeling of life: it has a depressive effect. . . . Pity on the whole thwarts the law of evolution, which is the law of selection. It preserves what is ripe for destruction; it defends life’s disinherited and condemned.7

This philosophy of 19th century German atheism clearly has a spiritual link to Nazi ideology. One wonders what Nietzsche would have thought of the strong, powerful, pitiless ones, the SS, “selecting” the fittest specimens as they ran past them naked—the strong to be worked to death in concentration camps, the weak and “ill-constituted” to be taken away to the gas chambers. What does the modern world need, hard, pitiless anti-Christian men and women, or those who will follow the One that Nietzsche despises so much who said?:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. . . . Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. . . . Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. . . . Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:3, 5, 7, 9)

There is no doubt what kind of people Hitler wanted. He said “Antiquity was better than modern times because it did not know Christianity and syphilis.” His main reasons for rejecting Christianity were as follows:

  1. It was a religion that sided with everything weak and low.
  2. It was purely Jewish and Oriental in origin. Christians “bend their backs to the sound of church bells and crawl to the cross of a foreign God.”
  3. The religion began 2000 years ago among sick, exhausted, and despairing men who had lost their belief in life.
  4. Christian ideas of “forgiveness of sin,” “resurrection,” and “salvation” were just nonsense.
  5. The Christian idea of mercy was dangerous. One must never extend mercy to his enemies. “Mercy is an un-German conception.”
  6. Christian “love” was silly; love paralyzes.
  7. The Christian idea of equality of all human beings meant that the inferior, the ill, the crippled, the criminal, and the weak were protected.8

The Nazis may have marched into battle with “Gott mit uns” (God with us) as their motto, but their god was a pagan antichrist god, and they followed a false messiah, Adolf Hitler, and bowed down before idols of power, physical force, and the dream of world domination by the Teutonic Master Race. Is it surprising that the fruit of this demonic ideology was the nightmare of destruction and slaughter which followed in their wake?

They may also have professed some sort of Christianity, but their aim was to replace authentic Christianity with a program for a “new” Christianity, which consisted of:

  • Throw out the Old Testament—it is a Jewish book. Also throw out parts of the New Testament.
  • Christ must be regarded not as Jewish, but as a Nordic martyr put to death by the Jews, a kind of warrior who by His death saved the world from Jewish domination.
  • Adolph Hitler is the new Messiah sent to earth to rescue the world from the Jews.
  • The swastika succeeds the cross as the symbol of German Christianity.
  • German land, German blood, German soul, German art—these four must become the most sacred things of all to the German Christian.9

In effect, the Nazis were replacing Christianity with a new paganism which drew its strength from Wagner’s music and the Nordic myths of pre-Christian times. One of the prime movers in this direction was Alfred Rosenburg to whom Hitler awarded the National Prize, Germany’s version of the Nobel Prize, in 1937. Rosenburg wanted a return to the old Teutonic religion of fire and sword. There was even a hymn for the new German Faith Movement:

The time of the Cross has gone now,

 The Sunwheel shall arise,

And so, with God, we shall be free at last

And give our people their honor back.10

SO WHERE WAS GOD?

A Jewish novel, The Last of the Just by André Schwartz-Bart, traces Jewish suffering through many generations and concludes in the time of the Holocaust. There is a very moving scene when a crowd of worshipping Jews leaves a synagogue and is confronted by Nazi troops in the courtyard:

Ernie had a staggering intuition—that God was hovering above the synagogue courtyard, vigilant and ready to intervene. . . . Ernie felt that God was there, so close that with a little boldness he might have touched him. “Stop! Don’t touch my people!” he murmured as if the divine voice had found expression in his own frail throat.11

In the novel, there is a momentary deliverance on that occasion; however, the terrible cycle of death and destruction brought about by the Nazis continued with the massacre of six million Jews and the deaths of millions of Gentiles on the battlefronts and in the concentration camps. Was God silent and indifferent while all this was going on?

God was neither silent nor indifferent, but He was watching and weeping over the wickedness of humanity and the suffering of the people, especially the Jewish people. However, because He has given us free will, the consequence of the wrong choice made by the German people was played out in the events which followed. The final defeat of the Nazis showed God’s ultimate judgment on that wicked political system.

While God was not silent or indifferent, unfortunately much of the church was. There were indeed brave souls, like the ten Boom family in Holland who sacrificed themselves to rescue Jews from the Nazis. But for the most part, the church failed to speak out, and not surprisingly many Jewish people saw “Christians” as the enemy. In the novel The Last of the Just, Ernie Levy, the lead character, marries Golda the night before they are to be taken away to a concentration camp. Their conversation turns to Jesus:

“Oh Ernie,” Golda said, “you know them. Tell me why do the Christians hate us the way they do? They seem so nice when I can look at them without my star.

Ernie put his arm round her shoulder solemnly. “It’s very mysterious,” he murmured in Yiddish. “They don’t exactly know why themselves. I’ve been in their churches and I’ve read their gospel. Do you know who the Christ was? A simple Jew like your father. A kind of Hassid.

Golda smiled gently. “You’re kidding me.”

No, no believe me, and I’ll bet they’d have got along fine, the two of them, because he was really a good Jew, you know sort of like the Baal Shem Tov12—a merciful man, and gentle. The Christians say they love him, but I think they hate him without knowing it. So they take the cross by the other end and make a sword out of it and strike us with it! You understand Golda,” he cried out suddenly strangely excited, “they take the cross and they turn it around, they turn it around, my God. . . .”13

Jesus was much more than “a simple Jew,” but the fact that He was a Jew is one which is totally obvious from the New Testament. Those who call themselves Christians and yet hate the Jews need to repent of anti-Semitism and determine to stand by Jewish people when they suffer persecution, recognizing that the root of anti-Semitism is human hostility to God. Rabbi David Panitz has pointed out in this connection that “the need for atonement through admission of the facts of history is an established Hebraic and Christian doctrine. Until you admit you have been wrong, you cannot begin a reconstruction of your life.”

The professing Christian church has an enormous burden of guilt in relation to the Jewish people. Although Nazi philosophy was pagan and anti-Christian, the seeds of anti-Semitism reaped by the Nazis were sown by the churches in their denunciations of the Jews. At the same time, we have to say that the real Jesus is entirely different from the cruel caricature who takes the cross to beat the Jewish people with. In Ernie Levy’s conversation with Golda, he goes on to say:

Poor Jesus, if he came back to the earth and saw that the pagans had made a sword out of him and used it against his sisters and brothers, he’d be sad, he’d grieve forever. And maybe he does see it.14

Those Who Are Spiritually Deceived Are No Longer Able to Think for Themselves
By Kevin Reeves

History is filled with stories of those who have stood for truth, many of whom gave their lives to defend the faith God had put in their hearts. History is also filled with those who tried to squelch that truth. In his riveting account of the Nazi empire, historian William L. Shirer meticulously documents the internal workings of a system that once threatened to take over the world. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is a chilling account of the effects of mind-numbing propaganda.1 The endless barrage of misinformation, incredibly, molded a once-beaten and fragmented people into the icon of elitism, which culminated in grisly death camps and the cold-blooded murder of those deemed lesser humans. A firsthand witness and opponent of the Nazi regime, Shirer recounted instances of conversation with German people, when he dared contradict the ludicrous governmental and media declarations of ethnic, cultural, and military superiority. He was met with shocked silence or an amazed stare. He noted that to question the Nazi machine’s view of anything was considered blasphemy of the highest order. It dawned on him that the minds of many of the people had become so warped that they were no longer able to think for themselves or evaluate anything by a higher standard. Shirer observed that with the rise of the new German empire, the truth had become whatever Hitler and Goebbels said it was; they were the final arbiters of reality— spiritual and otherwise.

Some may think it is extreme to compare the spiritual deception and control tactics within the church today to that of the Nazi regime and the death camps, but we should remember that the church in Germany in the 1930s was very much like the church is today—having a head in the sand mentality about spiritual deception and turning religious leaders into super-human heroes who can do no wrong. Perhaps we are not all that different than Christians in Germany back then. We should not fool ourselves and think we would never be duped like that. The apostle Paul issued a warning to Christians:

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. (I Corinthians 10:11-12)

Despite all this, there is hope in the Lord; He is “Faithful and True” (Revelation 19:11). And He promised to preserve His church, that true body of believers whom He calls the Bride of Christ. Praise His name—there is hope. When truth is challenged, mocked, and thrown against the wind, we can be sure, it will never be altered. And that Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.

The Lord is calling His people out from the midst of the false, to adhere to His truth, no matter what the cost. Let us respond with joy and thankfulness, knowing His grace is sufficient to strengthen us and give us courage.

Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. (Hebrews 13:13-14)

“Netanyahu Lays Out Conditions for Ending War Against Hamas”

LTRP Note: The following is posted for informational and research purposes.

By Akiva Van Koningsveld
Jewish News Syndicate

Feb. 4, 2024 - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday set out the country’s core demands for ending the war against Hamas in Gaza.

“The essential goal is, first of all, the elimination of Hamas. To achieve this goal, three things are needed,” Netanyahu told journalists ahead of the weekly Cabinet meeting at the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv.

“The first requirement is the collapse of Hamas’s battalions. To date, we have leveled 17 out of 24 battalions. Most of the remaining battalions are in the southern Gaza Strip and Rafah—we will also take care of those,” he said. Click here to continue reading.

The Mystical Revolution: How Millions of People Have Been Introduced to the Aquarian Age
By Ray Yungen

Most people understand there’s been a number of revolutions over the past forty years or so, beginning in the ’60s. For instance, there’s been the sexual revolution, the feminist revolution, and what you might call the drug revolution. These were social movements that changed and altered society to a significant degree. Before this time period, people more or less stayed with convention. They more or less conformed to society’s expectations and codes of behavior. There were technical revolutions and philosophical revolutions in the past, but the revolutions we have had since the 1960s have turned society in a totally new direction.

What many people don’t comprehend (or may understand in a vague or limited way) is that there has also been a mystical revolution. This revolution has impacted every major area of society, without exception. This is not a conspiracy theory. We are not talking about assertions of which we expect you to take our word. What we present here can be proven. In this booklet, you will see how the dots are connected.

A number of credible authors and scholars have documented this mystical revolution, three to which I would like to draw your attention. The first is Dr. James A. Herrick, a retired professor from Hope College and the author of The Making of the New Spirituality. In his book, Herrick says that the “Revealed Word” tradition (basically that which embraces the fundamental beliefs of Christianity) is being slowly dismantled in society and replaced by the New Age spirituality. His book is probably the most in-depth and scholarly I have yet seen. Herrick states:

[T]he past three centuries have witnessed a stunning shift in Western religious thinking away from the tenets [of Christianity]. . . . a new set of religious commitments has now replaced the fundamental claims of the Revealed Word.1

Herrick calls this replacement the “New Religious Synthesis,” which incorporates “the spiritualization of science” (i.e., quantum spirituality), panentheism (God in all things), occultic practices, “spiritual evolution” (man becoming Divine), and interspirituality (all paths lead to God) through mysticism.

Another figure who has recognized this mystical revolution is Robert C. Fuller, Professor of Religious Studies at Bradley University. According to Fuller’s book, Spiritual But Not Religious, huge numbers of Americans have embraced what he refers to as “unchurched” spirituality, which is in effect, New Age spirituality. Fuller says that millions of Americans no longer identify with the traditional religious denominations but now say they are “spiritual but not religious,” which is an unstructured mystical spirituality that is at the very heart of what I call the mystical revolution.2

A third author who has identified this mystical revolution is New York Times columnist Ross Douthat. In his 2012 book, Bad Religion, he states:

America’s problem isn’t too much religion, or too little of it. It’s bad religion: the slow-motion collapse of traditional Christianity and the rise of a variety of destructive pseudo-Christianities in its place.3

To back up the conclusions of Herrick, Fuller, and Douthat, according to a survey done by Baylor University, nearly 25 percent of the American population now view God as a “cosmic force” rather than a personal being.4

All this indicates that something unprecedented is taking place. Traditionally and overall, people in the Western world have seen God as our Father who art in heaven. God has been an individual and a personal being with all that this entails.

For those who might be skeptical about just how widespread this mystical paradigm shift is, consider some of the country’s major bookstore outlets. Amazon has around 280,000 titles that deal with New Age/New Spirituality subjects. When Borders was still in business, their metaphysical section in some stores was up to 64 shelves. Going by the law of the market (i.e., supply and demand), this means enormous numbers of people are interested.

What is Mysticism?
Readers who are not familiar with this subject may be asking, what exactly is mysticism? Simply put, this is merely the practice of one stopping the normal flow of thought by focusing on the breath or a repeated sound (such as repeating a word or phrase for twenty minutes) or a continuous drum beat. This is meant to propel an individual into a state called the silence, which makes him or her susceptible to communing with unseen realities they perceive to be supernatural in nature.

The mystical revolution is basically comprised of large numbers of people learning techniques that provide mystical experiences. This is at the heart of what is called the Age of Aquarius, where all humanity is linked in a mystical manner to one other and an ultimate authority figure, both seen and unseen.

This revolution actually started about the same time as the drug revolution in the 1960s when millions of teenagers and young adults started using marijuana and LSD. Psychedelic drug use became a widespread social movement, which is reflected by the fact that many of the songs at that time had reference to drugs and psychedelic themes.

Psychedelic drug use opened the door to interest in eastern religion—specifically Hindu and Buddhist meditation. The Beatles album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band had a reference to this in the song, “Within You, Without You.” One of the lines in the song is “it’s all within you.” In other words, everything you need is already contained in you (i.e., your higher self), which is one of the tenets of mysticism. Even the famous Woodstock Music Festival was advertised as an Aquarian exposition. The word Aquarian is a term for the Age of Aquarius, which is the view that we’re moving out of the Piscean age into the Aquarian age. In this Aquarian Age, there will be a certain spiritual keynote or spiritual perception among a critical mass of humanity. This was made apparent when Swami Satchidananda opened Woodstock with a lecture given to half a million young people in the audience (you can actually see this if you rent the movie Woodstock).

After Satchidananda’s Woodstock “benediction,” things unfolded quickly. Transcendental Meditation (T.M.) became widely popular due to its founder Maharishi being on the Merv Griffin Show, a popular talk show of that time. Merv Griffin was actually a T.M. practitioner himself and even acknowledged it on the show.

Other gurus surfaced as well. Swami Muktananda was also extremely well received in the ’70s and would travel around touching people in the middle of the forehead with a peacock feather activating their third eye. They would then have mystical experiences. He reached literally hundreds of thousands with his message.

This advent of mysticism was becoming very apparent in our culture. Terms like mantra, karma, and high consciousness were being used. This was somewhat of a novelty—people were hearing about things they never thought about before.

As we moved into the 1980s, popular actress Shirley MacLaine became associated with these practices because she was converted to this view. She wrote about it in both of her autobiographies, Out on a Limb and Dancing in the Light. Each one of these books sold millions of copies and successfully introduced occultic concepts such as channeling to countless people who were not yet familiar with such practices. These were not the hippies or the counter-culture types but were everyday folks: teachers, blue-collar workers, business men and women, and such. This, in turn, generated a lot of interest from the average person in the Western world. It was the 1980s when the New Age became quite a phenomenon.

The Christian Response
In 1983, a Christian attorney from Detroit, Constance Cumbey, wrote a book titled The Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow after she accidentally stumbled upon the New Age. Cumbey was basically the first person within the evangelical church to expose the New Age as a movement. There had been many books on cults, like Kingdom of the Cults or Guidebook for Cults. But Cumbey’s book focused on individuals working within various organizations, who rather than drawing people away to cults, attempted to turn the organizations themselves into spiritual organizations that reflected the new paradigm. The book that alarmed Cumbey was the book by Marilyn Ferguson, The Aquarian Conspiracy (an influential New Age manifesto at the time), which described people who had become aware of these other dimensions and were working to become “Aquarian conspirators” (as Ferguson called them) and bring everyone else into this mystical body. They were the pioneers or the avant-garde in this new wave of consciousness.

But then the term New Age became a worn-out buzzword. The people who promoted New Age beliefs stopped using the term. As a result of this tactic, Christian concerns died out, and people saw the New Age movement as a kind of fad that was fast disappearing. I’ve always wondered about books, such as Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness (immensely popular during that period), as to whether they had something to do with this dismissal of the New Age as a fictional fantasy and perhaps nothing more than a silly craze. It seems the initial alarm dissipated because people perceived the mystical revolution as non-relevant. A trip to your local or online Christian bookstore today will illustrate this point. In the section that deals with cults or apologetics, you will find books dealing with Mormonism, atheism, Islam, and so forth, but you will find almost nothing on the mystical revolution even though it has actually exploded and become embraced by a wide segment of the population.

Momentum Increases
In 1986, something very significant happened that helped turn unknown New Age writers into world-famous household names—the Oprah Winfrey Show began. Oprah had read a book by Unity minister Eric Butterworth and converted to the New Age mystical paradigm. Then in the ’90s, she dedicated her show to the New Age concepts of higher consciousness. In 1992, Oprah invited a woman named Marianne Williamson on her show. Williamson had written a book titled Return to Love, which was based on the channeled manual A Course in Miracles. To help launch Williamson’s message, Oprah gave away 10,000 copies of A Return to Love, resulting in 70,000 copies of the book selling within the first week after the show. Needless to say, Oprah was very excited about this book.

Oprah soon had a who’s who parade of New Age authors on her show. She highlighted a series of authors, most of whom went on to sell millions of books. She had Sarah Ban Breathnach, the author of Simple Abundance, and Iyanla Vanzant. And then, Oprah had one of the individuals I would consider the most indicative of this movement—Gary Zukav. Because of his regular appearances on the Oprah Show, his book, The Seat of the Soul, was at the top of the New York Times best-seller list 31 times and remained on the New York Times best-seller list for three years. Needless to say, it has sold millions of copies.

Zukav’s book was not the kind of book most people normally would have bought; it could be likened to a scholarly textbook, rather than the kind of book that would appeal to the masses.

There were many others also reaching the broad public. And by public, I mean this in the truest sense of the word. Public television began to advocate the New Age perspective. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, John Bradshaw was appearing on public television on a show called “Bradshaw on the Family.” Bradshaw had been trained in Hindu meditation by Dennis Weaver, the actor who played Chester on the 1960s television Gunsmoke. Bradshaw then passed on this knowledge to his viewers and readers, talking about meditation and the higher self. (Higher self is a term meaning the inner divinity or the god within every person.)

Deepak Chopra, an East Indian-American doctor, was another figure on public television quite often. Chopra promoted holistic health. But the most prominent and effective figure on public television, who was on for twelve years during pledge drives, is author Wayne Dyer. One could legitimately call him the Billy Graham of New Age spirituality. He had a deep booming voice and a commanding presence, which gave him an air of authority. But his message could best be summed up in one of his numerous books titled Your Sacred Self. Again, his message was always in the vein of mysticism—that if one did meditation one would achieve connection with the higher self. Like Bradshaw, Dyer reached millions of people through this venue. He literally personified the mystical revolution. In all, he has sold around 50 million books. He died in August of 2015 at the age of 75, but his books and teachings will live on.

Dr. Dyer’s publisher was Hay House, a publishing company started by a woman named Louise Hay who wrote a book called You Can Heal Your Life that sold 40 million copies. Hay became so wealthy that she was able to start her own publishing company. Today, Hay House is one of the largest New Age publishing companies.

The logo for Hay House is “look within.” In other words, everything you need is right inside of you. This is in line with the lyrics of “Within You, Without You,” the song by George Harrison of The Beatles—“it’s all within you.” As I stated earlier, these words are the theme of what New Age spirituality entails. In the Age of Aquarius, the message is when man “realizes” his own divinity, everyone will find “God” within themselves.

One could say, “Well, to each his own. We live in a pluralistic society. If people want to believe this stuff, they can. It may sound flaky or somewhat offbeat or eccentric, but I don’t care if other people believe this stuff. It won’t affect me at all. I’ll follow Jesus, and I’ll be a good Christian. There’ll still be plenty of good Christians around. Just because there’s this flaky religion out there doesn’t mean I should get excited about it.”

But here is what needs to be considered: when you look behind the curtain, you see things extremely disturbing. For instance, in the acknowledgments of popular author Iyanla Vanzant’s book, In the Meantime, she thanks her spirit guides, giving them each names. This is true of practically every major author in this movement. And then, there is Gary Zukav. The main theme of his books is that we need to turn our lives over to our non-physical guides (spirits) and teachers. Sarah Ben Breathnach was involved with Wicca and also had non-physical guides and teachers. In her book, Simple Abundance, she says spells cast on Halloween are more powerful than any other night in the year. That book sold five million copies.

Even the highly regarded and influential Wayne Dyer expressed his love and devotion to a group of non-physical entities who called themselves “Abraham” in a book for which he wrote the foreword.5

I could give numerous other examples than the ones just mentioned, but that would be redundant. This is not the exception; this is the rule. Perhaps the most noteworthy would be that of Louise Hay, founder of Hay House Publishers. Hay has a particular devotion to one of the non-physical guides and teachers whom Gary Zukav talks about, a spirit guide named Seth. Channeler Jane Roberts has authored several “Seth books.” Of those books, Hay states:

I would like to see the Seth books as required reading for anyone on their spiritual pathway. The amazing in-depth information in the Seth books is as relevant today as it was in the early 70s when Jane Roberts first channeled this material.6

This is sobering considering that practically every third or fourth book in the self-help section of most bookstores is published by Hay House.

Europe Gets on Board
In 2014, I traveled to Europe, specifically England, Ireland, and Germany for a number of speaking engagements. I was shocked to see the level of New Age acceptance in these countries. I didn’t get a real sense of how big this was until I went to a number of bookstores. In Dublin, Ireland at the city’s largest bookstore, there were 80 shelves devoted to mind, body, spirit (the “non-threatening” term for New Age spirituality). Traveling around Ireland, I found that New Age spirituality was the prominent spiritual expression even in little villages scattered around the countryside. I was expecting to find lots of books on Catholicism; instead, I found many books by the likes of Neale Donald Walsch, a New Age channeler.

Dusseldorf, Germany’s major bookstore absolutely reflected the mystical revolution I am trying to describe. Eighty-eight shelves were devoted to these subjects, which they called zie esoterik (German word for occult). It was then I was introduced to the German word for spirit guide, geist fürer.

Finally, in Birmingham, England (the second largest city in England), the largest bookstore in the center of town had a whopping 100 shelves devoted to the New Age compared to only twelve shelves devoted to Christianity. And in that small “Christian” section, many of the titles reflected the New Age view rather than the Christian.

This coincides with my experience in Germany, because right at the time I was there, I read an article that came out, which stated that Germans spend 25 billion euros a year on New Age activities and things related to the New Age. Twenty-five billion! The article said that New Age practices have become integrated into everyday life in Germany. Integrated and very common.

I had further evidence of that when I was in a large retail outlet in Germany called Hercules (the equivalent of the U.S. outlet, Walmart). The store’s large magazine section contained a sizeable number of New Age magazines, indicating the public was interested in these subjects.

In a 2013 trip to Europe, I saw the same level of interest in France. In one large bookstore, a small religion section was mostly Catholic, with a much larger section representing the entire panoply of New Age thought and practice.

All this shouldn’t be much of a surprise because the most popular spiritual author in Europe, Anselm Grün, has a strong New Age bent. Grün, a German Benedictine monk, promotes contact with spirit guides, getting in touch with “your angels,” and Buddhist-type meditation. Grün has written over 300 titles, which have sold over 14 million copies.

Clearly, from my own observation and from talking to people who live there, the mystical revolution is considerably more advanced in Europe than the U.S., although as time goes on, the gap is narrowing.

In addition to Europe, America’s neighbor to the north, Canada, has also heavily embraced this mystical revolution to roughly the same degree. In one national chain bookstore in the suburbs of Vancouver, BC, the number of shelves devoted to New Age spirituality has more than doubled in just a few years from twenty to forty-five.

Planetary Spirituality
Many people, including numerous Christians, see the New Age as more of a nuisance to Christianity than a serious threat. But according to New Age pundit David Spangler, this mystical revolution is actually the rise of what he refers to as a “planetary spirituality,”7 one that the entire human race buys into, one that transcends all the world’s religious dogmas and puts forth the idea that all human beings are divine.

This philosophy also carries another dimension as explained in Spangler’s book, Emergence: Rebirth of the Sacred where he explains how he came about connecting to “invisible, spiritual beings,”8 specifically one who called himself “John” (for the sake of convenience). Spangler said that during periods of meditation, he felt his own “inner being and [this spirit guide] uniting in a very deep way.”9 Spangler’s description of his relationship with “John” is most revealing:

I felt strongly that someone had walked into the room. This person’s presence was overwhelming. . . . In my inner work to that time, I had occasionally been aware of and made contact with invisible, spiritual beings. Such phenomena came with the territory [meditation]. . . I had never before felt such a strong and immediate presence.

I shared this perception with Myrtle [his friend], and . . . we agreed to sit in meditation to attempt a contact with this being. . . . I felt my inner being and his uniting in a very deep way. . . .

Thus began a relationship with a spiritual being that continues to this day.10

Spangler believes this relationship with his spirit guide has given him skills “at working with the inner dimensions of spirit”11 and that “John” has a specific purpose in connecting with Spangler:

Over the years it has been evident that John’s main interest is the emergence of a new age and a new culture, and he identifies himself as one of those on the spiritual side of life whose work is specifically to empower that emergence.12

Everyone I have profiled in this booklet, from Oprah to Wayne Dyer to John Bradshaw plus countless others have all been working to bring about this “new culture”—and they appear to have succeeded. What is taking place is far more widespread throughout the Western world than most people realize. Even the giant retail outlet Costco recognizes this reality. In their magazine, the Costco Connection, they relate this in an article titled, “Mindful Matters: Meditation as Medicine,” stating:

It’s been around for centuries and is integral to the practice of Buddhism, yet, until recently, meditation was often regarded as some strange, New Age-y, Eastern mind-body thing. No more.13

Meditation, the basic activity that underlies all metaphysics, is the primary source of spiritual direction for those in the New Age. We need only observe the emphasis that is placed on meditation to see the significance of its role in New Age thought:

Meditation is the doorway between worlds . . . the pathway between dimensions.14

Meditation is the key—the indispensable key—to the highest states of awareness.15

Meditation is a key ingredient to metaphysics, as it is the single most important act in a metaphysician’s life.16

When we examine the heart of this mystical revolution, we find there’s a source of authority, so to speak. There’s some thing, some entities running this. It’s not the authors themselves but the force behind them that is in charge. And the power or force behind all these authors despises the Gospel and hates Christianity. We must conclude that the New Age movement does not have any real leaders, only followers. I heard one writer/channeler put it very plainly when he revealed:
Everyone anywhere who tunes into the Higher Self becomes part of the transformation. Their lives then become orchestrated from other realms.17

Please remember these following two Bible verses as you consider what you have just read:

Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:31)

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. (1 Timothy 4:1)

Letter to the Editor: On The Chosen and Its Attempt to Strip Christ of His Deity

To Lighthouse Trails:

As many did, I bought the Season 1 DVD of The Chosen and watched it with great anticipation. By the time I reached the end of Season 1, I had an uneasy feeling in my spirit. I couldn’t put my finger on why but I had no desire to watch the 2nd season.  My sister, a strong believer, told me when she thinks of Christ now, she “sees” the actor who portrays Him in The Chosen.  That was a HUGE red flag to me. A short time later, I sent her a very good article—it could have been one from Lighthouse Trails—and I reminded her of her statement. Praise God, my sister’s eyes were opened, and she never watched another episode.

Thank you for your gift of discernment and your courage to go against the grain. I believe The Chosen series is a cleverly packaged, deceitful attempt to strip Christ of His deity in people’s minds and to relegate Him to the position of a nice, charismatic guy with some good teachings and funny friends.  In my mind, that’s heresy at its worst and should be avoided by any true follower of Christ Jesus, our Messiah and God.  As he was in the Garden of Eden, Satan is subtle and effective.

God bless you and protect your ministry from Satan and his minions.  Maranatha!

Rebecca

Occultic Practices & Beliefs Crossing Into Charismatic Revivalism

By Chris Lawson

In many places today, the church has become rife with spiritual things that bear no resemblance to biblical Christianity. Spiritually blind leaders, excessive false teaching and false prophecy, and experience-driven practices rooted in mysticism and the occult have become common.

Due to biblical illiteracy and the extreme lack of discernment among most popular voices today, churchgoers listen to—and often put up with—the teachings, prophecies, and claims, no matter how outlandish and unscriptural they may be. As a result of Scripture twisting, spiritual manipulation, and the inclusion of satanic manifestations and counterfeits of God’s Spirit, mass confusion ensues in many churches and movements.

Unknown to many Christians, occult (hidden/unseen) demonic spiritual forces (“seducing spirits,” 1 Timothy 4:1) masquerade as the Holy Spirit but are really counterfeit “angel[s] of light” (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). New Age/occult practitioners view these powers as “the force,” “energy,” Ch’i, Ki, Qi (Qigong), Kundalini Shakti, Feng Shui, “universal vital/life energy,” an impersonal “it,” and more. Most Christians appear to be utterly ignorant of this.

In counterfeit Christian revivals and “signs and wonders” movements, these demonic powers produce manifestations identical to the paranormal phenomena in New Age/mystical and occult settings. Many Christians are experiencing unbiblical manifestations which can lead to severe demonic oppression. Also, there are varying forms of demon possession among non-Christians. This occult “presence” can be psychically sensed, physically felt, emotionally yielded to, and manipulated at will by gurus, influential magical practitioners, and even false teachers and false prophets within the church.

In 1986, occult author June G. Bletzer penned a massive literary work titled The Donning International Encyclopedic Psychic Dictionary. This work includes over 9,000 metaphysical definitions, and in 875 pages, she defined every term she could find in the fields of parapsychology, the occult sciences, and holistic philosophy. Unfortunately, many things she describes manifest nowadays in Christian churches, albeit under new labels and “Christianized” forms. I have included some of these terms in this glossary.

Regarding Christian teaching and practice, discerning Christians and enquiring seekers of spiritual truth should always consider these critical questions in any setting where the Bible is being cited: 1) Did Jesus Christ teach His disciples and the apostles these things? 2) Does the Book of Acts illustrate the teaching, method, or practice in the early church for Christians? 3) Are the doctrines, practices, and experiences being received consistent with New Testament instruction for God’s church? and 4) Is the instruction in the Bible of “trying [testing] the spirits” being heeded (1 John 4:1)?

As you read the glossary terms, remember many of these terms have been “Christianized,” and the root and fruit of these terms are mystical and occultic. Jesus Christ did not teach or practice these things. Neither did the apostles or the early church. Instead, sound apostolic doctrine was preached and taught to uphold God’s truth and expose error. Furthermore, God has given many scriptural prohibitions and warnings so that Christians will not fall prey to false teachers, false prophets, and demonic manifestations (from both outside—and inside—the church) such as the following:

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. (Acts 20: 28-31)

Activations. This esoteric concept goes together with mystical occult powers and “anointed ones” claiming to be able to assist others in becoming “activated” for Christian service. The purpose of “activating” is to allegedly learn how to be equipped to hear from God, prophesy, and interpret what God is giving an individual. Popularized especially by Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, “activations” are not found anywhere in the Bible. This is a complete distortion of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Individuals are taught principles about “prophecy”; however, much that comes forth through this type of “activating” can lead to direct contact with the spirit world, psychism’s, and New Age/occult methodology. People engaged in this assume they will enter new levels of the “prophetic,” including seeing in the spirit (seers), interacting with angels, prophesying at will, and healings.

Active Ritual/Transference of Power. The purpose of this practice is for a psychically conducive person to discharge “energy” to another person, thereby bringing a Transference of Power. This mysterious power is an unseen “force” that people assume they can “tap into.” However, this power seeks to “tap into humans” as they have capabilities and powers that defy human imagination. Many unbiblical revival and renewal movements have unknowingly acquired these powers, thinking it is the Holy Spirit. Methods related to this transference of power include unbiblical anointings, energy transfers, impartations, Bioelectric Phenomena, Being Electrified, Reiki, Palmed Power, and Therapeutic Touch to name just a few. These transferable powers masquerade under many different names that people have ascribed to them, such as Qi, Ki, Chi, prana, “the force,” orgone, energy, vital life, mana, Kundalini Shakti, Shaktipat, and yin/yang. The demonic forces that generate these powers can induce severe physical and psychological problems and psychospiritual psychosis.

Active Trance. Active Trance occurs during the occult practice of “Supercreativity” (Supercreation). Far exceeding one’s ability to compose music, paint, or write literature, the subject works in a deep, hypnotic, altered state of consciousness, which can look like normal consciousness. Inspirational thoughts and actions come from the spirit world under the guise of deceased artists or whoever else the subject, or spirit entity, claims is making the art, music, or literature.

A Presence/The Presence. Contrary to the divine presence and work of God through the Holy Spirit as found in the Bible, “A Presence/The Presence” is related to manifesting influences that come about through occult energy methods such as energy infusions, hands-on energy work, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, transference, impartation, and more. Many people wrongly assume that “the presence” they have experienced is the Holy Spirit. This is especially true in false revivals and occult groups.

This counterfeit of God’s presence is an unseen spiritual force (spirit beings/demons) that can masquerade as “an angel of light.” Claiming to be the Holy Spirit, manifestations of “the Presence” are identical to the mystical phenomena found in New Age and occultic settings.

This unseen (occult) “Presence” can be psychically sensed and physically felt, emotionally yielded to, and even manipulated at will by gurus, false prophets, and influential occult practitioners. New Agers and occultists consider this power to be “universal vital/life energy” that comes to humans through various forms of phenomena known as “Etheric World Intelligences.” June G. Bletzer’s dictionary defines the term “A Presence” below. Bracketed material has been added to clarify what this “Presence” really is from a biblical standpoint:

A Presence: Any invisible energy field [demon] that is psychically sensed and felt to be a life-form (as man knows life) as opposed to an inert energy field . . . used as an umbrella word if one is unable to discern whether the soul-mind [demon] from the etheric world [layer of demons] is a ghost, a poltergeist, a UFO intelligence, a personal guide, or a deceased friend; . . . can be perceived by clairvoyance, a cold chill in the atmosphere, a fragrance not relative to anything in the vicinity, a touch on the shoulder, a surge of warmth flooding the body, etc. Usage: “I feel ‘a presence’ around me making me feel safe.”1

Abulia. Abulia is recognized in psychic/occult practices as an altered state of consciousness entered during hypnosis. When a consciously clear mind transitions into a state of passivity, this reduced state of consciousness leads to the loss of cognitive abilities. Clarity of mind, thoughtful attention, and the ability to speak and think for oneself become significantly reduced. This altered state can lead to hyper-suggestibility with the ensuing danger of being unable to discern between truth and error and even relinquishing one’s personal will.

Anointed Ones/Anointings. Many personal claims of being “anointed” go together with self-proclaimed apostles, prophets, seers, and visionaries. These claims of being anointed have nothing to do with the ceremonial anointings with oil found in the Bible for recognition and service before God. Nor do they have anything to do with the proper interpretation of the “anointing” of God the Holy Spirit at one’s conversion. Alleged “Anointed Ones” today claim or imply they have been “anointed” by God and can “impart” or “transfer” an anointing (or the “Father’s blessing”) to others. In Hinduism, the identical occult power anointing, the Kundalini Shakti anointing (awakening), has even been known to kill people. Spiritual charlatans masquerade the “anointing” (“it”) as the Holy Spirit, and many unbiblical and chaotic manifestations can follow. Magical occult power is at the root of this counterfeit anointing, and psychic energy and many demonic manifestations are the result. Proponents of counterfeit revivals and the “New Wine” anointing twist Scripture verses to make the “anointing” palatable to others.

Anointing Transfer Techniques. Transferable anointing techniques come in many variations. Some are displayed through the laying on of hands as “impartations” in Christian revival settings. To New Age/occult practitioners, transferable healing methods are recognized under many different names and variations (e.g., Spirit Healing, energy balancing, energy transference, Therapeutic Touch, and Reiki). Those who impart anointings and alleged healing processes to others touch, tap, pat (Shakti pat), or hold their hand(s) over the crown of the head, forehead, chest, belly, and back. These locations on the human body are some of the exact chakra points in New Age/occult Eastern religious beliefs. These techniques have nothing to do with the Holy Spirit of the Bible. They are psychic/occult methods mimicked in unbiblical Christian settings.

Artika Ceremony. An Artika Ceremony is virtually identical to occurrences within excessive Pentecostal revival meetings. In a Christian revival setting, “statues of deities” are just replaced with repetitive songs, drumming, dancing, Christian mantras (Jesus, Jesus, Jesus . . .), or something else to dull the mind. This definition is from The Donning International Encyclopedic Psychic Dictionary:

Artika Ceremony [is] a ritual performed in one of the destructive-brainwashing cults to induce a “snapping” state of mind; consists of offering a candle to the deity, jumping up and down, singing, dancing, chanting repetitiously for a prolonged time . . . overindulgence in the above activities forces one’s psychic doors to be open in an unnatural way; one may see visions, pleasant or fierce, but believed (or told) to be spiritual because the individual has never experienced an altered state of consciousness before; the mind has snapped and from that time on the individual floats in and out of the altered state which makes him easier to be controlled by the organization.2

Atmospheric/Celestial Paranormal Phenomena. When unbiblical teaching and rife ignorance of the nature of paranormal occult phenomena abounds, demonically generated signs and wonders can—and do—occur. In the world of psychic/magical lore, this manifestation can come forth as “A Presence” or “The Presence.” It can also manifest in many other forms (e.g., polymorphs, shapeshifters, nature spirits, UFOs, ghosts, and apparitions). A ritual or ceremonial occult-generated variation of this is known as a “Group Elemental.” It is generated by forces that the Bible classifies as demons (Ephesians 6:10-12), and it can be visibly seen. Celestial skyward appearances occur too, such as Marian apparitions. This can happen where there is a large unseen (occult) “Presence” or energy field of spiritual forces (demons), hovering over and influencing like-minded people.

The occult phenomena occur when a mass of people, with one purpose and one mind (so-to-speak), become frenzied through excess gullibility along with repetitious singing and chanting. Emotionally charged into a state of expectancy and ecstatic joy, they are prepared with a religious “high.” When overwhelming exhilaration and the feeling of “oneness” are felt in the crowd, present demonic forces bring about whatever phenomena or manifestation they think will most influence the group, crowd, or masses gathered. The goal of these evil spirits is to mislead humans and generate more interest in further meetings and sightings. Where teachings from false apostles and prophets abound, paranormal phenomena and manifestations of lying signs, wonders, healings, and miracles can easily occur. Peaked out human emotions mixed with false doctrine is a recipe for occult activity. Counterfeit revivals and claims of phenomena include many things. Examples include angel/demon sightings, falling angel feathers, gold dust, fillings of gold in teeth (dental psychism), glory clouds (haze/mist/fog), people being thrown to the ground and across the room by unseen forces, and more. These are identical to the claims found in various non-Christian pagan religions.

Auric Clairvoyance. This is related to Auric Readings, Aura Colors, and Kirlian Effect. Practitioners of auric clairvoyance claim to see auras (electromagnetic energy fields) around people, animals, plants, geographic regions, and even nations. Auric clairvoyance can be deliberate or spontaneous and can manifest among groups that have an excessive preoccupation with forms of prophecy, visions, revelations, and seeing in the spirit (“seers”).

Bantering Spirit/Spirit Possession. Possession is an altered state of consciousness whereby a foreign spirit entity (a demon) inhabits the body of a human being or an animal. This is done with evil intent for the purpose of influencing and causing great harm to the possessed vessel. This phenomenon is known in Christian settings as demon possession and recognized in occult belief systems as things such as “bad energy,” “transformation,” “hostile etheric world intelligences,” or “bantering spirits.” During spirit possession, various stages and levels of consciousness occur. At times, this happens without the possessed subject knowing they are being manipulated and abused by the fallen spirit world. Depending on the level and intensity of possession, individuals will recoil and manifest with deep hostility in some way or another against the thought of Jesus Christ, the blood of Christ shed for our sins, the name of Jesus, and the reality of Christ’s resurrection. True and lasting deliverance from demonic powers can only come through personal saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, His substitutionary, blood-atoning redemptive work on the Cross, and Christ’s subsequent victorious resurrection from the dead.

Baptism By Fire/Surges of Energy. Contrary to the biblical concept of baptism by fire (repentance, judgment, or purification; Matthew 3:7-12; Luke 3: 7-17) this esoteric “baptism by fire” is embraced by occultists and false revivalists alike. This term is related to the Hindu concept of a surge of occult energy coursing through the body and/or extremities. Feelings produced when this power is received include fiery hot heat, burning, feelings of electricity, surges of warmth, and even excruciating undiagnosable burning sensations that can last for months. Recipients experience various feeling manifestations in the hands, feet, sexual organs, head, toes, and even throughout the entire body. This “baptism by fire” is recognized by New Age/occult practitioners as “energy transfer” and Kundalini arousal/awakening. Some even refer to it as “healing” and “transformation” to a higher level of spirituality. In Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism, this spiritually catastrophic esoteric experience arises through the chakras (alleged psychic energy centers in the body) with the raising of the Kundalini power (a demonic force). Once “activated” (see Activations), this occult power produces psychic infiltration, spiritual psychosis, mental and physical problems, and spiritual “emergencies” that can destroy a person’s body, mind, and even the personal will to live.

Bioelectric Phenomena. Naturally occurring bioelectricity is an electric current phenomenon generated by living tissues in the body in nerves and muscles. Regarding the experience of Bioelectric Phenomena in esoteric spiritual practices, miscellaneous physical and psychic manifestations can occur. These manifestations of magical power are brought about when massive spirit world infusions of power are added to naturally occurring low-level human bioelectricity. The result produces powerful occult phenomena. False prophets and faith healers often become “activated” with this “energy” and “transfer” anointings through “impartations.” In receiving or giving this transferable “energy,” they experience what psychics experience when infused with excessive amounts of occult bioelectricity. Wrongly attributed as the work of the Holy Spirit or as “the Father’s Blessing,” this esoteric phenomenon can produce painful feelings of electrical waves and currents within the human body, like a high voltage wire conducting electricity. Whoever, or whatever, gets touched feels the reception of this unseen electric current. There are endless claims of this phenomenon occurring at false revivals as human bodies become supercharged with authentic yet dangerous occult power. As people anoint, impart, transfer, and pass on these deceptive spiritistic powers to others, revivalism skyrockets, and lying signs and wonders follow.

Blank Awareness/Blank Mood. Blank awareness is a strange state of consciousness. A person can be wide awake and at the same time experience a feeling that nothing at all is going on around them nor are they usually conscious of anything; they are simply “blanked out,” seemingly “nowhere.” They are unable to discern internal or external stimuli and cannot focus or relate to anything of interest. This phenomenon has happened at false revivals where people are frozen trance-like, either kneeling, or glued to the floor by unseen forces. In these positions, they just stare blankly into the distance. Like blank awareness, a blank, empty mood is one in which the mind is active yet so neutrally passive that personal opinions are void. In this state, one’s ability to discern between truth and error fades away. People who engage in psychic work enter this blank mood stage. The spirits take over their minds and work in, upon, and through them. In Christian settings, this blank, empty mood experience opens mental perceptions to indoctrination into false doctrine and dangerous experiences.

Catalepsy. It is virtually impossible to move when one is in a cataleptic trance state. This altered state of consciousness is one of twelve symptoms of catatonia. The body remains rigid and in a fixed form for some time, and bodily functions remain suspended until one is no longer in the cataleptic state. Aside from known medical causes (such as drug/medicine toxicity, schizophrenia, epilepsy, or Parkinson’s disease), if spiritistic and psychic influences are present in any way, one may find themselves stuck in a cataleptic trance under the influence of unseen demonic spiritual forces.

Convulsions. In revival and renewal meetings, convulsions can be induced though unbiblical, transferable impartations through various so-called anointings. Individuals experience involuntary and uncontrollable convulsions while spasmodically jerking and crunching forward at the mid-section of the body. These can manifest in various ways, and they are identical to the physical kriya manifestation convulsions of advanced Siddhi Yoga practitioners. Esoteric psychospiritual/psychophysical convulsions are produced by occult powers, yet ignorant and misinformed people think that they are from God.

Creative Quiet. This is a creative level of consciousness experienced during an altered state of contemplation/meditation. Very similar to creative visualization and what is perceived, the practitioner believes they are listening to God; however, it is psychic information received from spirit beings. Because the perceived information can be extremely accurate, people are misled to think it is God. As this practice is developed, spirit contact and received information can be almost immediate.

Crunches/Crunching. Otherwise known as “Doing the Crunch,” this uncontrollable crunching over and convulsing (with or without crying, wailing, screaming, or shrieking) is not normal behavior. It occurs at many counterfeit revivals and is not associated with regular and natural body functions. This crunching is a spiritually induced erratic movement with jerking convulsions. These manifestations are identical to the yogic kriyas experienced through advancement with yogic/occultic powers. Other actions experienced in this state can include sobbing, wailing, bawling, howling, sniveling, whimpering, screaming, shrieking, making animal sounds, uncontrollable seizures, and spontaneous Yoga poses. These movements take place during varying levels of Kundalini awakening.

25 DIFFICULTIES THAT HINDER FULL ASSURANCE

By Harry Ironside

It is my purpose to consider some of the difficulties and perplexities which keep souls from entering into peace and enjoying the full assurance of salvation. The following questions and objections are some that have come to me again and again from earnest seekers after light, and are therefore, I have good reason to believe, fairly representative of the troublesome thoughts that hinder many from seeing the simplicity of God’s way of life as set forth in His holy Word. Perhaps if my reader has not a settled rest of heart and conscience, he may find his own peculiar trouble dealt with here.

1) “How may I be sure I have repented enough?”

Very often the real difficulty arises from a misapprehension of the meaning of repentance. There is no salvation without repentance, but it is important to see exactly what is meant by this term.

  • It should not be confused with penitence, which is sorrow for sin.
  • It should not be confused with penance, which is an effort to make some satisfaction for sin.
  • It should not be confused with reformation, which is turning from sin.

Repentance is a change of attitude toward sin, toward self, and toward God. The word, metanoia in the Greek Testament, literally means “a change of mind.” This is not a mere intellectual change of viewpoint, however, but a complete reversal of attitude.

Now test yourself in this way.

  • You once lived in sin and loved it. Do you now desire deliverance from it?
  • You were once self-confident and trusting in your own fancied goodness. Do you now judge yourself as a sinner before God?
  • You once sought to hide from God and rebelled against His authority. Do you now look up to Him, desiring to know Him, and to yield yourself to Him?

If you can honestly say yes to these questions, you have repented. Your attitude is altogether different to what it once was.

You confess you are a sinner, unable to cleanse your own soul, and you are willing to be saved in God’s way. This is repentance. And remember, it is not the amount of repentance that counts; it is the fact that you turn from self to God that puts you in the place where His grace avails through Jesus Christ. Strictly speaking, not one of us has ever repented enough. None of us has realized the enormity of our guilt as God sees it. But when we judge ourselves and trust the Savior whom He has provided, we are saved through His merits. As recipients of His lovingkindness, repentance will be deepened and will continue day by day as we learn more and more of His infinite worth and our own unworthiness.

2) “I do not feel fit for God; I am so unworthy, I fear He will not take me in.”

What a wretched condition would be yours if you imagined you were fit, in yourself, for Heaven, or that you were worthy of such love as God has shown! It is because of your lack of fitness Christ died to redeem you. It is because you are worthy only of eternal judgment that He “who knew no sin” was made sin for you, that you might become the righteousness of God in Him. If you had any fitness of your own, you would not need a Savior.

When the Roman centurion sought the healing power of Jesus for his servant, he sent the Jewish elders to the Lord to intercede for him. They said, “He was worthy for whom he should do this: For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.” But when the centurion faced the Lord, he exclaimed, “I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof” (see Luke 7:5-6).

They said, “He was worthy”; he declared, “I am not worthy,” and this moved the heart of Jesus so that He exclaimed, “I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (v. 9). So long as a man considers himself worthy, there is no salvation for him; but when, in repentance (as described in the previous section), he owns his unworthiness, there is immediate deliverance for him through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

3) “I am afraid I am too great a sinner ever to be saved.”

But Christ came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. He did not die for good people, and in truth, there are no intrinsically good people in the world. “There is none that doeth good, no, not one.” But if any imagine they are good in themselves, there is no salvation for them. “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick” (Mark 2:17). Sin is like a dire disease that fastens upon the whole being, but Jesus is the great Physician who cures the worst of cases. None can be too vile, or too sinful, or too wicked for Him. His skill is unlimited. He delights to show great grace to great sinners. Saul of Tarsus was the chief of sinners, but he was saved in that moment when he trusted the Lord Jesus.

The greater your sinfulness, the more you need the Savior; and the worse your condition, the more proof you have that you are the one for whom He died. God laid all our sins upon His Son when He hung on that Cross of Calvary. He suffered for them all. Not one of your sins was overlooked. There is such infinite value in His propitiatory work that grace can now be extended to the vilest sinner on the face of the Earth if he will but receive the Lord Jesus by faith as his personal Savior.

4) “But what if I am not one of the elect?”

You can readily settle that yourself. Without attempting to delve into the mysteries of the divine decrees and the divine foreknowledge, it is enough to say that all who come to God through His Son are elect. Our Lord makes this very plain in John 6:37. He says, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

Now do not linger too long on the first half of the verse. Be clear about the latter half, for it is there your responsibility is found. Have you come to Jesus? If so, you have His pledged word that He will not cast you out. The fact that you come proves that the Father gave you to Christ. Thus, you may be certain that you belong to the glorious company of the elect.

D. L. Moody used to put it very simply when he stated, “The elect are the ‘whosoever wills’; the non-elect are the ‘whosoever won’ts.’” This is exactly what Scripture teaches:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16; emphasis added)

The invitation is to all:

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Those who accept this invitation are the elect. Remember, we are never told that Christ died for the elect. But what does the Word say? “Christ died for the ungodly.” Are you ungodly? Then He died for you. Put in your claim and enter into peace. Meditate on the Holy Spirit’s declaration through the apostle Paul, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief” (1 Timothy 1:15).

Nowhere are we told that Christ came to save the elect. The term “sinners” is all-embracing, for “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Are you sure you are a sinner? Then you may be certain there is salvation for you. Do not exercise yourself in matters too high for you. Just be simple enough to take God at His Word.

5) “Sometimes I am afraid I am predestinated to be damned; if so, I can do nothing to alter my terrible case.”

No one was ever predestinated to be damned. Predestination is a precious truth of inestimable value and comfort when rightly understood. Will you not turn to your Bible and read for yourself in the only two chapters in which this word “predestinate” or “predestinated” is found? The first is Romans 8:29-30:

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

The other chapter is Ephesians 1. In verse 5, we read, “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”

And in verse 11, it says, “Being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.”

You will note there is no reference in these four verses to either Heaven or Hell but to Christlikeness eventually. Nowhere are we told in Scripture that God predestinated one man to be saved and another to be lost. Men are to be saved or lost eternally because of their attitude toward the Lord Jesus Christ:

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)

Predestination means that someday all the redeemed shall become just like the Lord Jesus! Is not this precious? Do not try to make a bugaboo out of that which was intended to give joy and comfort to those who trust in the Savior. Trust Him for yourself, and you will know that God has predestinated you to be fully conformed to the image of His Son.

6) “I am trying to believe, but I have no assurance of salvation.”

Trying to believe whom? Would you dare speak of trying to believe the One who cannot lie? Is not this to insult God to His face? Suppose a dear friend of yours related a strange story which he declared to be a fact, would you say to him, “I will try to believe you”? Would not this be tantamount to declaring that you did not believe him at all? Do not then, I beg of you, talk of trying to believe when God has given His own testimony concerning His Son and promised to give eternal life to all who trust Him.

You either do believe Him, or you do not. If you do not believe Him, you practically make Him a liar. If you have been doing this heretofore, will you not go to Him at once and confess this great wickedness of which you have been guilty, and tell Him you will henceforth rest in simple faith upon His Word? It is not a question of feeling or emotion but of “believing God and asking no questions,” as that little boy put it, when asked, “What is faith?”

7) “But must I not feel different?”

It is a remarkable fact that the word “feel” is only found once in the New Testament, and that is in Paul’s sermon to the Athenians where he rebukes them for imagining the Godhead to be like unto silver and gold and shows that the true God is the Creator of all things, saying:

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (Acts 17:26-28)

Now you find the word “feel” right in the very midst of this passage, but it has nothing to do with the Gospel, but rather with the heathen groping in the dark, “if haply they might feel after God.” You are not in their ignorant condition. You have heard the Gospel. You know of the one living and true God. You are not told to feel anything, but to believe His record.

Then it may interest you to know that the word “feeling” is only found twice in the New Testament and never has anything to do with the message of salvation. In Ephesians 4:19, the Spirit of God describes the state of certain unbelieving Gentiles in these words, “Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.” This is what continual indulgence in sin does for people. They become insensate, “past feeling,” and so conscience ceases to register as they plunge into one excess and enormity after another.

The only other place where we read of “feeling” is in a very different connection. In Hebrews 4:15, our blessed Lord Himself is brought before us in a very precious verse, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Nowhere else do we read of feeling in all the New Testament! But oh, how many times we read of believing, of faith, of trust, of confidence! Yes, these are the words for us. Ignore your feelings altogether, and tell the Lord Jesus now that you will trust Him and confess Him before men.

8) “I can see that God has done His part in the work of my salvation, but must I not do my part if I would avail myself of what He has done?”

Have you ever heard the story of the man who was wonderfully saved and arose in a class meeting to testify to his newfound joy? His heart was filled with Christ, and his lips spoke of Him and of Him only as his Redeemer and Lord. The class leader was a legalist and said when the other had finished, “Our brother has told us what the Lord did for him, but he has forgotten to tell us what he did in order to be saved. God does His part when we do ours. Brother, did you not do your part before God saved you?” The man was on his feet in a moment and exclaimed, “I surely did do my part. I ran away from God as fast as my sins could carry me. That was my part. And God chased me till He caught me. That was His part.”

Yes, you and I have all done our part, and a dreadfully sad part it was. We did all the sinning, and He must do all the saving. After we are saved, we can labor night and day to show our gratitude to Him for what His grace has wrought.

9) “It is not exactly that I do not trust God, but I cannot be sure of myself; I am afraid even my faith is unreal.”

Faith is not the Savior: Christ is. He is the unchanging One—“Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Faith is just the hand that lays hold of Him. You are not asked to trust yourself. The less confidence you have in yourself the better. Put all your confidence in the Lord Jesus. He is not unreal, and if your faith is centered in Him, all will be well for time and eternity.

10) “But the Bible says faith is the gift of God and that all men have not faith; perhaps it is not the will of God to give me saving faith.”

Faith is the gift of God in this sense, that only through His Word is it received. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). All men may have faith if they will: but alas, many refuse to hear the Word of God, so they are left in their unbelief. The Holy Spirit presents the Word, but one may resist His gracious influence. On the other hand, one may listen to the Word and believe it. That is faith. It is God’s gift; it is true because it is given through His Word.

11) “Sometimes I believe I have trusted Jesus and am justified before God, but I cannot forget my sins; they come before me night and day. Surely, if I were really forgiven, I could forget the past.”

Ah, dear troubled one, the more you grow in your faith in Christ, the more you will abhor yourself for ever committing those sins. But let your comfort be in this blessed thought—God has forgotten them! He says, “Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” So, when they come before your mind to trouble and distress you, just rest in the fact that God has forgotten them and will never bring them up again. Christ has settled for all those sins. Believe it and be at peace.

12) “I often come to the point of deciding for Christ then I draw back because I am afraid I cannot hold out.”

If it were a matter of your own ability to hold out, you might well fear. You have no power in yourself that will enable you to hold out. But the moment you fully trust the Lord Jesus, you are born again. Then the Holy Spirit comes in to dwell in your heart and to be the power of the new life. He will enable you to resist temptation and to live to the glory of God. “It is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). Do not count on self at all. Let Him have His way. He will lead you on in triumph as you surrender to Him.

13) “But must I not hold on to the end if I would be saved at last?”

May I, without irreverence, venture to recast a Bible story? If the account of Noah and the flood went something like this, what would you think of it? Suppose that after the ark was completed, God said to Noah, “Now, get eight great spikes of iron and drive them into the side of the ark.” And Noah procured the spikes and did as he was bidden. Then the word came to him, “Come thou and all thy house and hang on to these spikes.” And Noah and his wife, and the three sons and their wives, each held onto a spike, and the rains descended and the flood came, and as the ark was borne up on the waters, their muscles were strained to the utmost as they clung to the spikes. Imagine God saying to them, “If you hang on till the deluge is over, you will be saved!” Can you even think of such a thing as anyone of them going safely through?

But oh, how different the simple Bible story, “And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark” (Genesis 7:1).

Ah, that is a very different thing than holding on! Inside the ark they were safe as long as the ark endured the storm. And every believer in Christ is as safe as God can make him. Look away then from all self-effort and trust Him alone. Rest in the ark and rejoice in God’s great salvation. And be sure to remember that it is Christ who holds you, not you who hold Him. He has said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5)” and, For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (Romans 5:10)

He who died for you, now lives at God’s right hand to keep you, and the Father sees you in Him. “He hath made us accepted in the beloved.” Could anything be more sure?

14) “Must I not strive, if I would enter in at the strait gate? It seems to me just believing is too easy a way.”

Our Lord’s words may well give us pause. They were never intended, however, to make us feel that a hard struggle was necessary in order to be saved. But the great majority of people drift aimlessly and carelessly on, passing heedlessly by the gate to life, intent only on gratifying their carnal and worldly desires. He who would be saved must arouse himself to the supreme importance of spiritual things (“seek ye first the kingdom of God”—Matthew 6:33). He must put first things first. In this sense, he strives to enter in at the strait gate.

He will be like Bunyan’s pilgrim who, when awakened to his danger and realizing the dreadful burden of sin, refused to heed the pleadings of his old companions, and putting his fingers in his ears, cried, “Life, life, eternal life!” as he fled from the City of Destruction. You, too, must determine that nothing shall be allowed to interfere with the settlement of the great matter of the salvation of your soul.

But you do not have to strive with God to save you. He is waiting to do that very thing. Yea, and He will do it for you the moment you cease from all self-effort and put your trust in Christ. To strive to enter in is to be determined that nothing shall keep you from accepting the gracious invitation of the Lord Jesus, who bids you come to Him in all your need and guilt, that He may fit you for Heaven’s glory by cleansing you from every stain. Do not on any account be turned away from this, but brushing every barrier aside, yield your heart to the Savior now!

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)

15) “I really want to come to Jesus, but I do not seem to know how to do so.”

It is strange how we stumble over the very simplicity of the Gospel invitation. Christ Jesus is a living, loving, divinely human Personality—as truly as when He was here on Earth. It is He Himself who bids us come. Do you know what it is to stay away? Then surely you need have no difficulty in doing the very opposite! Lift your heart to Him in prayer. Tell Him you are the sinner for whom He died and that now you accept His gracious invitation to “Come, for all things are now ready.” Then believe He receives you for He said He would, and He always keeps His word.

16) “Must I not pray through until I get the witness that I am saved?”

Nowhere in the Bible are people told they must pray to be saved. It is true that the natural expression of an awakened and anxious soul is prayer. But there is no such thing in Scripture as “praying through” in order to be saved. What is required is that the convicted sinner believe the Gospel. Suppose you went home tired and hungry and said to your wife, “Will you please let me have supper as early as possible?” She complies at once and sets the table, calling you to come and partake of what she has provided. Instead of doing so, you plead long and earnestly, literally begging for food. What would she think of you?

And what does God think when He has spread the Gospel feast for starving sinners and invited all to “come and dine,” but instead of obeying His voice, men fall on their knees and beg and plead for His mercy and grace and do not accept His invitation and feast on the living bread provided for their salvation. The witness of the Spirit is only enjoyed by those who thus take Him at His Word. The believer has received the witness to him as given in the Word of God (Hebrews 10:15). He has the witness in himself because the truth has been received into his heart (1 John 5:10). He enjoys the Spirit’s witnessing with his spirit, when, upon believing, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within (Romans 8:16). The witness is not a happy feeling. It is the testimony that the Spirit gives through the Word. That this testimony believed brings joy and gladness goes without question. I do not know I am saved because I feel happy. But I feel happy because I know I am saved. An old evangelist I knew as a boy often used to say, “Believing is the root; feeling is the fruit.” This expresses it well.

17) “Sometimes I fear I have sinned away my day of grace, for though I have been seeking the Lord for a long time, I do not seem to find Him.”

No one has sinned away his day of grace who has any desire to be saved. That desire is divinely implanted. If you are seeking after God, it is because He is seeking after you. But, what, after all, do you really mean when you talk of seeking the Lord and being unable to find Him? He is not hiding Himself. He has come in love to sinners as the good Shepherd seeking the lost sheep.

A little boy was asked one day, “My lad, have you found Jesus?”

The boy looked up in amazement and replied, “Why, sir, I didn’t know He was lost; but I was, and He found me.” A wonderful confession surely! In Old Testament times, God said through the prophet, “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6); and there is a sense in which these words are still applicable. But they do not convey the full truth of the Gospel. Jesus said, “The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Are you lost? Then He is looking for you. Moses said to the people, “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord” (Exodus 14:13). Stop right where you are, and lift your heart to Him, and you will find He is waiting and ready to receive you.

And as to sinning away your day of grace, has He not said, “Whosoever will may come”? Are you not included in that great word “whosoever”? Unless you can prove it does not take you in, you are still where the grace of God can reach you. Do not listen to the lying voice of the enemy of your soul, who tells you that your case is hopeless, but heed the gentle invitation of Him who is the way, the truth, and the life, as He bids you now believe on His name.

18) “But how can I be sure my faith is strong enough to save my soul?”

It is not faith that saves the soul. It is the One whom God has set forth as the object of faith. It is true we are justified by faith instrumentally, but actually we are justified by His blood. The weakest faith in Jesus saves. The strongest faith in self, or in good works, or in the church, or in its ordinances leaves you lost and undone still.

James Parker of Plainfield, New Jersey, was visiting in a hospital when a nurse indicated a bed surrounded with white screens and whispered, “The poor man is dying. The priest has been here and administered the last sacrament. He cannot live long.” Mr. Parker begged to go inside the screen, and permission was granted. As he looked down upon the dying man, he observed a crucifix on his bosom. He stooped over and lifted it up. The sick man lifted his eyes and looked distressed. “Put it back,” he whispered, “I want to die with it on my breast.”

The visitor pointed to the figure pictured on the Cross and said fervently, “He’s a wonderful Savior!”

“Yes, yes, I love the crucifix. Put it back, please. I hope it will help me to die well.”

“Not the crucifix,” was the reply, “but the One who died on the Cross, the Lord Jesus, He died to save you.”

The man looked bewildered, then his face brightened: “Oh, I see, not the crucifix but the One who died. He died for me. I see, sir, I see. I never understood it before.”

It was evident that faith had sprung up in his soul. Mr. Parker replaced the crucifix, offered a brief prayer, and left. In a few minutes, he observed the body being wheeled out of the ward.

Telling me of it later, he exclaimed, “I know God thinks so much of the work of His Son that He will have everyone in Heaven who will give Him any excuse for taking them there!” It is blessedly true. Faith’s look at the Crucified saves, even though it be faith of the feeblest kind.

19) “But must I not keep the law in order to be saved?”

Keep the law! Why you have already violated those sacred precepts times without number. Go carefully over the Ten Commandments; which of them have you not broken, either literally or in spirit? Take them one by one, and face them squarely and honestly in the presence of the God who gave them, and who said, “The man that doeth them shall live in them”; but who also declared, “Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” Now possibly you find, by careful examination, that you are not guilty on every count of these ten words. But remember what the Holy Spirit has told us in James 2: 8-11:

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

It has often been remarked that a chain is no stronger than its weakest link. Suppose you were suspended over a precipice by a chain of ten links. How many would need to snap before you would drop into the abyss below? And so, if you are guilty of the violation of one of the commandments, you are condemned by the law and therefore under its curse.

The law of God was never given to save men. It was given to magnify sin, to make it exceedingly sinful, to give it the specific character of transgression, “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin” (Romans 3:20).

But, blessed be God, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” (Galatians 3:13). He became man and was born under the law. He obeyed that law perfectly and was not subject to its penalty. But He went to the Cross and endured its curse for us, that we who trust Him might be forever free from its just condemnation:

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:18)

20) “I humbly hope I am a Christian, but I dare not be too sure. I cannot see how anyone can be certain until after the day of judgment.”

But the day of judgment will be too late! If this matter is not settled before that great assize, you will then be irrevocably lost. Perhaps you are laboring under a misapprehension of what that judgment of the Great White Throne is for and who is to be judged at that time. It will be the judgment of sinners, when all who have lived and died out of Christ will be judged according to their works. Christians will not stand there for judgment. Concerning them, our Lord has said (John 5:24):

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Here is a glorious truth revealed! The believer in the Lord Jesus will never have to be judged for his sins because Christ has been judged for them already. On account of this, God justifies freely and completely all who receive His Son in faith as their Savior. Look again at the verse quoted above. Notice that all who hear His Word and believe in Him have everlasting life. It is present possession. Therefore, it is really unbelief that would lead one to say, “I hope I have eternal life because I believe in Jesus.” Do not speak of humility when you are doubting God. Take Him at His Word and know beyond all question that eternal life is yours.

21) “Must I not first be baptized before I can know that I am saved?”

It is right and proper that you should be baptized. But baptism cannot bring about the salvation of the soul. It is, as Peter tells us, a figure of salvation, just as was the deliverance of Noah in the ark of old. But we are told distinctly, “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).

To the inquiring jailer at Philippi, who asked the definite question, “What must I do to be saved?” there came as definite an answer, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (see Acts 16:30-31). Baptism followed believing. It was the God-ordained way of confessing Christ as Savior and Lord. Many have been saved who could not possibly be baptized. Consider the case of the penitent thief [dying next to Jesus], and be assured that God has never had two ways of saving sinners. The same grace that saved him will save you when you trust in Jesus whose blood alone cleanses from all sin.

22) “If I could only be sure I was in the right church, I would feel secure; but there are so many different churches that I get all confused and upset.”

The church is not the ark of safety. The church is the aggregate of all who believe in the Lord Jesus and who have therefore been baptized by the Holy Spirit into one body. This is not a mere organization, however ancient and venerable. If you were sure you were in the right church (some earthly organization) and trusted in that for salvation, you would be forever lost! Your trust must be in the Head of the church, the risen Christ. He is the only Savior. All ecclesiastical pretension is vain, and to rest in any kind of church membership is an empty deception. Christ alone is the ark that will carry you safely through all the storms of judgment. No matter what denomination you turn to, you will never find salvation in allying yourself with it, but when you come to Jesus, you are then prepared to enjoy fellowship with His people.

23) “I believe Jesus died for me, but I am afraid to say I am saved, for I know I do not love God as much as I should.”

I question if anyone loves Him as He ought to be loved. But it is a grave mistake to be looking in your own heart for love. Rather rejoice in the amazing love of God for you as expressed in the Cross of Christ and in all His care for you through the years. We say sometimes that love begets love. This is very true in regard to love for God. As you are occupied with His love, your own heart will respond to it and you will be able to say, “We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Looking into your own heart for a ground of confidence is like casting the anchor in the hold of a ship. Cast it outside, and let it go down, down, down into the great, tossing ocean of strife and trouble until it grips the rock itself. Christ alone is the rock, and He is the manifestation of the infinite love of God for sinners.

24) “At times I feel assured that all is well, but at other times I tremble, fearing I am mistaken.”

Mistaken about what? If you believe Jesus died for you and rose again, there can be no mistake about that. If you have taken Him at His word and have come to Him for peace and pardon, there can be no mistake about that. If you have opened your heart to Him, you can be certain He has come in to abide, for He has told you He would, and there can be no mistake about that. Your trembling does not alter these basic facts.

A story is told of a vessel that was wrecked one stormy night by crashing on the rocks off the coast of Cornwall. All hands perished but one lone Irish lad who was hurled by the waves upon the jagged slopes of a great towering ledge where he managed to find a place of refuge. In the morning, watchers on the beach spied him through their glasses, and a boat was launched and rowed out to where he clung. Almost dead with cold and exposure, he was tenderly lifted into the boat and brought ashore. After restoratives were applied, he was asked, “Lad, didn’t ye tremble out there on the rock in all that storm?” He replied brightly in his Irish way, “Trimble? Sure I trimbled. But do you know, the rock never trimbled wanct all night.” If you have trusted Christ, you are on the rock. While you may tremble, that does not invalidate God’s salvation. The rock remains firm and secure. Look away from self altogether and rely solely upon the Word of God.

25) “There have been times when I had very definite assurance of my salvation, and then I have lost it again. Why do these periods of darkness come?”

There may be various reasons for these periods of darkness. The greatest saints have at times known the same experiences. They may possibly be accounted for by great mental weariness and physical weakness. The adversary of our souls is always ready to take advantage of such conditions and ever seeks to make us forget the clear, definite promises of God on which we have rested when well and strong.

There is an authentic story told of an aged minister who had preached the Gospel in clearness and power during all his public life, but who, when he was suffering at times, found himself greatly beset by doubt and uncertainty. Mentioning the matter to his wife, she drew his attention to John 5:24. As he read the precious words again, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”; he burst into a joyous laugh, and said, “How strange that I should ever forget words like these when I have preached on them myself for years.”

Sometime later the wife came into the room and found her aged husband leaning over the side of the bed, holding the open Bible beneath his couch. She exclaimed, “Whatever are you doing?”

He answered, “Satan has been after me again, and as he is the prince of darkness, I took it that he would be in the darkest place in the room, which is under the bed; and so I was just showing him John 5:24, and the moment he saw it he ceased to trouble me.”

We can quite understand the mental weakness that the story suggests, but the principle is blessedly true. When the adversary of your soul comes against you seeking to destroy your confidence, show him what God has said.

But there may be other reasons which account for the loss of that blessed assurance you once enjoyed. The apostle Peter suggests such in his second epistle, chapter 1, verse 9. In the previous verses, he stresses the importance of spiritual growth, and the believer is instructed to be diligent in adding to—

. . . your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (vv. 5-8)

But, on the other hand, if the believer is neglectful of these things, he cannot expect the divine blessing of assurance to rest upon him; and so we are told, “He that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins” (v. 1:9).

There is something very solemn here. Notice, he was purged from his old sins, but through indolence and carelessness, he has lost the assurance of this. The blessedness of bygone days has faded from his memory.

The Christian life is never static. One must either grow in grace, or there will be backsliding and deterioration. “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways” (Proverbs 14:14). He who does not go on with God, but allows himself to drift, is almost sure to lose the joy of his salvation. Examine yourself as to this matter, and if you find you have been careless in regard to the study of your Bible, careless as to your prayer life, careless as to the proper use of the means of grace, confess all this to God and give diligence to walk with Him in days to come that you may develop a stronger Christian character.

Last of all, let me remind you that any known sin condoned in your life will rob you of the joy and assurance of your salvation. “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psalm 66:18). Many a one who has gone on happily with Christ for some time has later toyed with sin and become ensnared and entrapped into something that has so grieved the Spirit of God he has lost his sense of acceptance in Christ. See to it that there is no unconfessed sin in your life. Be sure you are not tolerating any secret sin which is draining you of spiritual power and hindering your communion with God.

Worldliness, carnal indulgence of any kind, unfaithfulness as to your Christian responsibilities, unseemly levity, the harboring of malice or ill-will toward others—all or any of these things are calculated to destroy your sense of assurance. If guilty of any of them, face things honestly in the presence of God, remembering He has said, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Do not accept the suggestion of the tempter that you are powerless to break away from evil habits. Remember, it is not a question of your own power, but when you honestly repent of the wrongdoing and turn to the Lord for divine help to overcome your besetting sin, He will undertake for you. As you reckon yourself to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord, the Holy Spirit will work in and through you, causing you to triumph over tendencies toward evil, and enabling you to live victoriously to the glory of the God who has saved you.

New Book Announcement: Innocent: The Price One Man Paid for Doing What Is Right (The Philip Zodhiates Story)
Philip Zodhiates’ new book, Innocent: The Price One Man Paid for Doing What Is Right is now available through Lighthouse Trails. As many of our readers know, Lighthouse Trails has been covering the story of Philip since he was arrested and imprisoned in a U.S. Federal prison. The following is from the back cover of his book (independently published).

Innocent: The Price One Man Paid for Doing What Is Right

On December 5th, 2018, an innocent man, who broke no laws, was incarcerated into a U.S. federal prison to begin a three-year prison sentence. His crime? As an act of compassion, he drove a distraught mother from Virginia to New York as she sought refuge for her young daughter whom she had learned was being sexually abused, and the courts refused to protect her daughter in the matter. After the drive, the mother and daughter disappeared, having left the country.

Because the former partner was a lesbian and the mother was a former lesbian (now a converted Christian believer), the story received attention from the LGBTQ movement and was soon being portrayed as a hate crime against a homosexual. The FBI became involved and eventually tracked down Philip Zodhiates and a Mennonite pastor, both who were brought to trial and convicted of aiding and abetting an “international parental kidnapping” even though the mother and daughter had every right to leave the country according to the statute under which the men were convicted.

During Philip’s 30-month incarceration, he wrote daily in a journal about life in prison. What began as a terrifying experience for this Christian husband, father, philanthropist, and businessman (the son of the well-known Hebrew/Greek Bible scholar, Spiros Zodhiates) became a journey of faith—not just for Philip but also for many of the inmates who met Philip and whose lives were changed forever.

What could have been a collapse of faith for an innocent man—falsely accused of a crime he never committed and thrown into prison—turned into just the opposite for Philip. He had always cherished God’s Holy Word, but now it became his life line and the Holy Spirit his comfort and peace in a deeper way than ever before. Innocent not only tells the story of the injustice that took place in a country that has lost its moral foundation but is also a wake-up call that persecution may be right around the corner for those who are trying to do the right thing.

Donating to Lighthouse Trails

SUPPORTING LIGHTHOUSE TRAILS: For those who would like to support Lighthouse Trails, we always appreciate both your prayers and your giving. And for those who have faithfully done that over the years, we thank you with all of our hearts. We know that some people may have the impression that Lighthouse Trails does quite well financially because we sell products that we publish and because our resources have had such a far reach; but, the truth is, it takes everything made through sales to keep Lighthouse Trails operating. Publishing, at least for small presses such as ours, is rarely a high-profit business. It would take a best seller to see that, one that the masses of people love. And because we are not just a business, but even more so a ministry, we keep our prices as low as we can, give away many resources, and have also made much of our material available for free on the research site and blog. That's not how big corporations run things as that would hurt the bottom line (profit), but we see the needs out there, and we trust God to keep us going as long as He sees fit.

We thank you in advance for seeing the value in a ministry like Lighthouse Trails and coming along side us with your prayers and support.

It is our prayer that we will faithfully be humble servants of the Lord’s work for years to come should the Lord tarry. If you would like to donate to Lighthouse Trails, you may send a donation by mailing it to: Lighthouse Trails, P.O. Box 307, Roseburg, Oregon 97470. Or you may call 866/876-3910. There is also a donate option on our store website. (There is also a PayPal option on that page.)

Lighthouse Trails is not a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, so your donations will not be tax deductible.

A note to our Canadian readers: As many of you know, in 2019, we were informed by the Canadian government that some of our booklets cannot be sent across the border into Canada because they would be considered "hate propaganda" according to Canadian law changes on homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and transgenderism. However, we also learned that it is currently not illegal for Canadians to have possession of these booklets (we just can't send them across the border). Therefore, Canadian readers may call 866-295-4143, the number of our Canadian distributor, to obtain copies of all of our booklets.
