Editor’s Note: Since the release of the first edition of this booklet in 2013, there has been a growing acceptance of mystical practices, including energy healing, Reiki, and even chakras. One week in May of 2026, the Lighthouse Trails office received two phone calls from two unrelated readers: one from a reader in Wisconsin and one from Ohio. We were shocked to hear that in both situations, a leader at the church the person attended had recently led a class and was promoting the chakras in the class.

Shortly before Ray Yungen passed away in 2016, he told our editors that because Yoga had now entered into so many churches, he predicted that the next thing would be energy healing and Reiki. It wasn’t too long after he said this that we began getting reports that Christian church members were involved with Reiki and other forms of energy healing. And now, it appears that chakras (which is full-blown occultic New Ageism) are entering today’s Christian church. We believe this will lead to an incomprehensible degree of Satanic spiritual deception in the church.

Chakras and Energy Healing

Former New Age follower, Caryl Matrisciana wrote this in her book, Out of India:

Today, various types of energy healing pervade the medical/health field. The spirituality behind it is based on the Hindu chakra system, which includes use of psychic powers (through the third eye, opened at the sixth chakra) and ultimately embracing the divinity of man (at the seventh chakra). This is why chakra-based healing energy can never be divorced from the New Age movement; the two are inseparable. The numerous methods using healing energy go by a variety of names: Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch, Reiki, Pranic Healing, Quantum Touch, and Deeksha (the Oneness Blessing).1

In the book, Forever Fit, singer/actress Cher speaks of a friend of hers who is a metaphysical “healer”:

She heals with her hands and, boy, if she puts her hands on you, you know you’ve been touched. Even near your body you feel it. It’s simply unbelievable. But she is truly tuned in to some kind of higher power.2

New Agers and occultists believe that man has more than one body, that there are other invisible bodies superimposed on the physical body. They refer to one of these as the etheric body and believe there lies within it energy centers called chakras (pronounced shock-ras). The term chakra means whirling wheel in Sanskrit, the ancient Hindu language. They were seen by those with clairvoyant powers as spinning balls of psychic energy. It is taught that there are seven chakras, which start at the base of the spine and end at the crown chakra at the top of the head.

Each chakra is supposed to have a different function corresponding to certain levels of awareness. The chakras act as conduits or conductors for what is called kundalini or serpent energy. They say this force lies coiled but dormant at the base of the spine like a snake. When awakened during meditation, it is supposed to travel up the spine activating each chakra as it surges upward. When the kundalini force hits the crown chakra, the person experiences enlightenment or Self-realization. This mystical current results in the person knowing himself to be God. That is why kundalini is sometimes referred to as the divine energy. According to New Age proponents, all meditative methods involve energy and power, and the greater the power, the greater the experience.

Basically, what all energy healing entails is opening up the chakras through meditation or transferring the kundalini power from someone already attuned to it:

At the sixth chakra, a person opens to a higher level of intuition and inner guidance. At the seventh, the person feels a sense of merging with Spirit.3

I want people to know that energy healing is fundamentally supernatural in nature. It is not based on something physically tangible as massage or chiropractic. The chakras are not something you can open up surgically and look at like you can the physical organs like the heart or spleen.

The chakra system is the basis for virtually all energy-healing techniques. In energy-healing, the power is channeled into the patient, thus bringing about the desired wellness and wholeness of the person receiving it. Currently, there are a number of energy-healing systems. Although they have different names, the energy that they use is from the same source.

Reiki

One of the fastest growing New Age healing techniques being used today is Reiki, (pronounced ray-key), a Japanese word which translates as universal life energy or God energy. It has also been referred to as the Radiance Technique. Reiki is an ancient Tibetan healing system which was rediscovered by a Japanese man in the 1880s and has only fairly recently been brought to the West.

The technique consists of placing the hands on the recipient and then activating the energy to flow through the practitioner into the recipient. One practitioner describes the experience in the following way:

When doing it, I become a channel through which this force, this juice of the universe, comes pouring from my palms into the body of the person I am touching, sometimes lightly, almost imperceptibly, sometimes in famished sucking drafts. I get it even as I’m giving it. It surrounds the two of us, patient and practitioner.4

One obtains this power to perform Reiki by being attuned by a Reiki master. This is done in four sessions in which the master activates the chakras, creating an open channel for the energy. The attunement process is not made known for general information, but is held in secrecy for only those being initiated.

One of the main reasons Reiki has become so popular is its apparently pleasurable experience. Those who have experienced Reiki report feeling a powerful sense of warmth and security. One woman, now a Reiki master, remarked after her first encounter: “I don’t know what this is you’ve got but I just have to have it.”5 People don’t make such comments unless there is an appeal involved. A successful business woman gives Reiki the following praise:

Reiki should be available through every medical, chiropractic and mental health facility in this country. Your fees are a small price to pay for such impressive results. I don’t know how Reiki works, but it works; that’s all that counts in my book.6

New Age teaching tells us that once someone is attuned he or she can never lose the power; it is for life. Even distance is not a barrier for the Reiki energy, for the channeler may engage in something called absentee healing, in which the energy is sent over long distances, even thousands of miles. One master relates:

Just by having the name or an object of the person or perhaps even a picture in your hand, you can send Reiki to them to wherever they are in the world.7

A 2008 survey by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) determined that 1.2 million adults and over 161,000 children in the United States had received Reiki treatments.8 In many cases, these treatments are by people who treat or work with others on a therapeutic basis, such as health professionals, body workers, chiropractors, and counselors. Despite its bizarre and unconventional nature, Reiki has struck a chord with an incredible number of average people. In Europe alone, the number of people accepting Reiki is very substantial. One Reiki master claims that in the thirteen years she lived in Europe she alone initiated 45,000 people into Reiki as channelers.9* (In 2026, one source stated, “There are over 1805 Reiki practitioners in the US. . . . The International Center for Reiki Training estimates that more than 4 million people have studied Reiki”10)

What Reiki is really about is using this power to transform others into New Age consciousness. As one Reiki leader states:

It also makes a level of spiritual transformation available to non-meditators, that is usually reserved for those with a meditative path.11

Statements like this reveal that Reiki is in line with all the other New Age transformation efforts. It changes the way people perceive reality. Most practitioners acknowledge the truth of this. A German Reiki channeler makes this comment:

It frequently happens that patients will come into contact with new ideas after a few Reiki treatments. Some will start doing yoga or autogenous training or start to meditate or practice some other kind of spiritual method. . . . Fundamental changes will set in and new things will start to develop. You will find it easier to cast off old, outlived structures and you will notice that you are being led and guided more and more.12

What concerns me is that Reiki apparently can be combined with regular massage techniques without the recipient even knowing it. A letter in the Reiki Journal reveals:

Reiki is a whole new experience when used in my massage therapy practice. Massage, I thought, would be an excellent tool to spread the radiance of this universal energy and a client would benefit and really not realize what a wonderful growth was happening in his or her being (emphasis mine).13

Of all the New Age practices and modalities, Reiki holds the title to being the most intriguing and perhaps eerie one. This is brought out in the following observations made by one of the leading Reiki masters in the country. He reveals:

When I looked psychically at the energy, I could often see it as thousands of small particles of light, like “corpuscles” filled with radiant Reiki energy flowing through me and out of my hands. It was as though these Reiki “corpuscles” of light had a purpose and intelligence.14

Since Reiki is not something taught intellectually, even children can be brought into it. In one Reiki magazine, I found an ad that was offering a Children’s Reiki Handbook: A Guide to Energy Healing for Kids. The book is described as a “guide that provides kids with what they need to prepare for their first Reiki Attunement.”15

Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic touch is another widespread healing technique. This method was developed and promoted by Dr. Delores Krieger, a professor of nursing at New York University.

While Reiki is obtained by being attuned by a master, therapeutic touch is acquired by standard metaphysical meditation commonly referred to as centering. Teachers of therapeutic touch readily acknowledge that “centering is probably the most important part of the entire process.”16 A practitioner relates that when she first encountered therapeutic touch in graduate nursing school, it was “the craziest, kookiest stuff I’d ever seen or heard.” This skepticism did not last. She explains:

I got through the semester, though, and in the process Dr. Krieger performed the procedure on me. It was then I knew something very real was going on, so I continued to learn about it, and practice it.17

Like the others, she attributes this power to “the individual Higher Self”18 and feels that this type of healing is not just for the body, but is also “very spiritual.”19

Hands of Light

In her highly acclaimed book, Hands of Light, healer Barbara Ann Brennan lays out the dynamics of such practices as Reiki and therapeutic touch.

A color image in her book shows a drawn picture of a woman doing energy healing on another woman. On each side of the healer are two faceless figures that fit the description of the beings of light spoken of in chapter one of my book For Many Shall Come in My Name. The picture reveals that the power is coming from the two “entities” whom Brennan describes as “the guides.”20 Brennan explains that:

The healer must first open and align herself with the cosmic forces. This means not only just before the healing, but in her life in general.21

These “cosmic forces” also have names. Brennan tells of an exchange between herself and a spirit being (who calls himself “Heyoan”) who reveals to her: “Enlightenment is the goal; healing is a by-product.”22 What he meant by this is that the forces behind energy healing are really pushing the man-is-God view and any physical benefits are just the bait.

Anyone considering undergoing any chakra-based energy therapy should first seriously consider Brennan’s sobering revelation that “I and Heyoan are one.”23

Conclusion

Christians need to be aware for the sake of their families that energy healing is something that poses the potential to greatly impact anyone in their circle of friends or loved ones. In one Reiki magazine, I found an advertisement for a Reiki teddy bear, which said: “This teddy bear can be infused with Reiki energy and given to a child.”24 This is a stunning illustration that New Age influence should not be dismissed as mere silliness. It is anything but silly!

Tantric Spirituality and the Evangelical Church —A Dangerous Mystical “Marriage”

The Bible says we live in a “crooked and perverse” world and that as believers we are to “shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15). The closer we move toward the “end of the age” (Matthew 24), the darker and more perverse the world becomes. Global peace plans, interfaith movements, mystical spiritualities, and other carnal-induced plots will not help the world’s woes. Jesus said, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness” (John 12:46). As the world moves further away from Jesus Christ, the darkness only grows. A person can never escape that darkness without Jesus Christ living in him or her . . . all these other attempts are futile.

The New Age movement has now permeated all areas of our society: The business world, healthcare, education, religion, and entertainment. Virtually nothing has been untouched by the tentacles of this occultic, meditation-driven spirituality, and it has entered the Christian church largely through contemplative prayer (i.e., Spiritual Formation). But there is another area that mysticism has united with . . . and that is the sexual realm. The marriage of the two is referred to as tantra (or tantric sex), and before you stop reading this article, thinking “What has sex got to do with exposing contemplative and the New Age?,” we must tell you with all soberness, this mystical sexuality is growing faster by the day, and it may ultimately affect the lives of countless Christians. Why? Because Christianity at large is going in a mystical direction, thanks to countless Christian leaders, pastors, and authors; and within the realms of these mystical states, many will be introduced to tantra.

We decided to write this article on tantra after a Christian woman contacted us and told us (after seeing tantra mentioned in a description of For Many Shall Come in My Name) that her Christian husband (who is in leadership in a large Christian movement) was being enticed with tantric sex. Ray Yungen explains about tantra and its relevance today:

Tantra is the name of the ancient Hindu sacred texts that contain certain rituals and secrets. Some deal with taking the energies brought forth in meditation through the chakras and combining them with love-making to enhance sexual experiences.

Once completely off-limits to the masses of humanity, tantra, like all other New Age methodologies, is now gaining increasing popularity. A Google search on the Internet shows 6,600,000 entries for the word tantra! This union of sexuality and Eastern spirituality is a perfect example to illustrate just how much the New Age has permeated our society as it has affected even the most intimate areas of people’s lives.
The potential to impact a very great number of people, especially men, was brought out in an article by a sex worker who incorporates “Tantric Bodywork” into her services. She paints a very sad portrait of the dynamics of the “enormous sex industry” in which millions of stressed and unhappy men seek out “erotic release” from women who are just as unhappy and stressed as their clients. She observes that there is a “culturally rampant phenomenon that spouses are disconnected from each other.”

To remedy this tragic interplay of exploitation, she has turned to Tantric Union to give her clients what she feels is not just sex but “union with the divine.” After she read a book called Women of the Light: The New Sacred Prostitute, she turned her erotic business into a “temple.” Of this temple, she says it is:

“. . . dedicated to being a haven of the sacred, a home for the embodiment of spirit, filled with altars, sacred objects, plants, art, dreamy sensual music, blissful scents. My space is home to Quan Yin [a Buddhist goddess], crystals blessed by the Entities of John of God [a Brazilian spirit channeler].”1

Now the “multitudes of men” who come to her get much more than they bargained for. In the past, wives and girlfriends needed only to worry about sexually transmitted diseases from cheating husbands and boyfriends, but now their men may also bring home spiritual entities!

Most readers might think that tantra is something exceedingly obscure that would never attract average people. But the movie industry thinks otherwise. In a 2003 movie, Hollywood Homicide (starring Harrison Ford), viewers were presented with a brief snippet of tantric sex in one scene where fellow police officers opened the locker of Ford’s rookie detective partner and out falls a book (which the camera focuses on) about tantra, revealing the side-kick’s spiritual/sexual affinities (incidentally, he also teaches Yoga in the film).2

If Christians begin to incorporate their contemplative proclivities with their sexual lives (a Christian version of tantric sex), the results will be devastating to the church, and we predict sexual perversion will be more rampant than ever. Why? Because if the altered states of consciousness are truly demonic realms (as we believe they are), then tantric sex is another venue of the hidden darkness that Jesus spoke of.

These assertions may sound absurd and far-fetched to some readers, but evidence of the truth of this does exist. For instance, Henri Nouwen (who along with Thomas Merton is one of the top pioneers of the contemplative prayer movement), in his last book before he died, The Sabbatical Journey, favorably revealed how he listened to audio tapes on the seven chakras, which is the basis for tantric sex.3 Also in Nouwen’s book, he makes mention of his encounter with a homosexual mystic named Andrew Harvey, whom Nouwen referred to as his soul friend (spiritual mentor) and how much Harvey’s mysticism had touched him.4 And yet Harvey’s mysticism includes the tantric element; in a 2007 conference (The International Conference on Sacred Sexuality), Harvey led a workshop called Sexual Liberation, Tantra, and Sacred Activism in which Harvey:

. . . show[s] that sexual liberation and Tantra are vital parts of the Divine Mother’s plan for the birth of a new humanity, since they make possible a profound and ecstatic contact with what Andrew calls Divine Eros—a tender passionate dynamic love-connection. True Tantric sexuality gives its’ practitioners access to extraordinary and unified energies which will form the base of a commitment to Sacred Activism.5

Most Christians would have a hard time believing that tantric sex could enter the church. But it’s closer to home than most think. One of the most popular evangelical authors, Gary Thomas, promotes an author who wrote a book on tantric sex.

In Thomas’ highly popular book Sacred Marriage (a book that Focus on the Family and some Calvary Chapels have both promoted and sold), Thomas introduces readers to a woman named Mary Anne McPherson Oliver and to her book Conjugal Spirituality. Thomas favorably references and quotes Oliver several times throughout Sacred Marriage. Who is Mary Anne McPherson Oliver, and why should Christians be concerned about Gary Thomas’ promotion of this woman’s book, Conjugal Spirituality?

On the back of Oliver’s book, it states:

Religious practice as we know it today remains, in effect, “celibate.” Mary Anne Oliver proposes an alternative . . . she examines the spiritual dynamics of long-term relationship.6

You may be wondering, “What does that all mean?” To put it simply, Oliver believes that sexuality and spirituality go together and that couples are missing out because they have not incorporated the two but rather have practiced what she calls a “celibate” spirituality. But she is not just talking about spirituality—she is talking about mystical spirituality!

Oliver received her doctorate in mystical theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, and her book permeates with her mystical persuasions. She describes her “discomfort” regarding present views on sexuality and religion and says she hunted for answers by talking to monks, going on retreats, and even spending an entire (“liturgical”) year at Taize,7 an ecumenical, meditation-promoting community in France. Eventually, she came to identify what she termed “conjugal spirituality.”8

Oliver says that “negative attitudes” and “walls” toward sex have inhibited people and says:

Although the walls are coming down, the separation of sex and spirituality which has been operative since the 4th century has yet to be completely eliminated.9

What exactly is Oliver proposing couples do to remove these “walls”? Very clearly, her message to couples is to turn to mysticism. In dismay, she says that “spiritual counsellors and writers” have not begun to teach the “Upanishads [Hindu scriptures] and Tantric writings as the basis for moral theology for couples” and that “[s]ome still refuse to grant that mystical experience can be associated with erotic love.”10 Oliver says that changes in mainstream theology have prepared the way for “the emergence of conjugal spirituality.”11 We believe those “changes” in theology she refers to that have prepared the way for Oliver’s tantric “conjugal spirituality” is contemplative prayer that has almost fully entered evangelical Christianity today.

Caryl Matrisciana discusses Oliver in her book, Out of India:

[Mary Anne McPherson] Oliver tells readers to use mantras and breath prayers to induce the tantric experience. She says:

“Carl Jung predicted that the West would produce its own Yoga on the basis laid down by Christianity. I believe conjugal spirituality [tantra] to be just such a distinctively Western Yoga.”12

In 1994 (when Oliver’s book came out), she said the public wasn’t quite ready for such a radical view of sexuality. But she spoke optimistically about the future because of the growing interest in mysticism in our society:

“An upsurge of interest in the spiritual life and a renaissance in mystical studies have widened the domain of spirituality.”13

This mysticism that Oliver encourages is experienced through “bodily exercises” that the couple practice together, “creating one’s spiritual space.” Listen to some of her instructions in what she describes as “intercourse on all levels of consciousness”:

• “Center ‘that whole human reality which some people are beginning to call bodymind.’”14
• “Two basic movements in which each can contact the core energy of the other and experience the enlarging of the oval inhabited by the divine presence.”15
• Yin and Yang movements.
• “Concentrate in the stillness and silence.”16
• “Meditate using the five senses. Experience the circuit of energy circling slowly through the joined bodies.”17
• “Focus a few minutes on the breath as a sign of the Spirit’s activity within yourself.”18

In Conjugal Spirituality, Oliver talks favorably about mystic Teilhard de Chardin’s Omega Point* and the “Indian Tantric Yoga tradition . . . spoken of as kundalini potential energy.”19 She describes public sexual ceremonies in which couples practice “Taoist visualizations and meditations, accompanied by breathing exercises” and talks of “[i]nvoking the gods and goddesses.” Oliver says that society may frown on such public displays of sexual mysticism at this time, and couples may have to improvise until restrictions are lifted. She says that “sexual union celebrated [is] an eschatological sign of God’s kingdom where all will be one.”20

It is important to realize here that when Gary Thomas read Oliver’s book, he clearly resonated with it. Otherwise he would not have referred to or quoted from it so many times (over a dozen times in the original edition of Sacred Marriage. This is not guilt by association, but rather guilt by promotion. He may not have directly promoted tantric sex in his book, but he led the horse to water! And when you consider that Sacred Marriage has sold over one million copies (some sources say two million worldwide), this means that countless people have been introduced to a tantric sex advocate, and who knows how many got a copy of Conjugal Spirituality! What Gary Thomas has done is a primary example of how tantric sex is coming into the church.

As believers who are to “shine as lights in the world,” we must flee the deeds of darkness and become “blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation” (Philippians 2:15). We cannot do this in our own strength, but Jesus Christ living inside us will enable us through His mercy and grace:

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)

*The Omega Point, a term Chardin coined, is when all of humanity and life come into the realization of oneness, unity, and a single consciousness—”the mysterious Center of our centers.”21

The Telepathy Tapes & Akiane’s “Jesus”—What the Dickens Is Going on?

The radio and television networks of the world will be linked up, and He will make His appeal, His call, to mankind. By mentally overshadowing all mankind simultaneously, He will come into telepathic rapport with all humanity everywhere, and we shall hear His words silently entering our minds, in our own language.2—Benjamin Creme, False Christ Spokesman

Telepathy is very important to the coming New Age Christ, otherwise known as the Antichrist. He is the ultimate deceiver who the Bible warns will appear at the end of time. As cited above, this false Christ says he will use telepathic communication to announce his presence to the world—a world that has been increasingly prepared to accept his telepathic approach. In this regard, New Age matriarch Alice Bailey stated that his followers “must occupy themselves increasingly with right understanding, right designation and right definition of the new science of telepathy.3

Enter Ky Dickens and The Telepathy Tapes.

The Telepathy Tapes

The Telepathy Tapes is a hugely popular podcast series written, directed, and produced by award-winning film maker Ky Dickens. Her series, soon to become a major film, is her rather obvious attempt to normalize the occult teachings of the New Age movement. She does this by featuring the supernatural reports being attributed to non-speaking autistic children who communicate with spelling boards. She uses their controversial mind-blowing testimonies to justify her call for a “paradigm shift”4 to what is, in effect, an occult/New Age worldview. And somehow she does this without ever mentioning the words occult or New Age. From astral projection and talking with the dead to mystical spirit guides and mind-reading parrots,5 according to Ky Dickens and her cast of autistic non-speakers, questionable researchers, and New Age sympathizers—it’s all good!

To accomplish her “paradigm shift,” Dickens attempts to normalize, legitimize, and glorify much of what has commonly been known as the occult and New Age. In particular, she effectively destigmatizes one of the chief tools of the coming false Christ—telepathic communication. While almost everything Dickens presents flies in the face of biblical Christianity, her presumed objectivity and casual assuredness makes what she is presenting seem very credible to undiscerning listeners. This is especially true for those who are unaware of the Bible’s many warnings about the misinformation she often presents as “researched” fact.

In his new book Testing the Telepathy Tapes, author Mark Baker biblically challenges what Dickens and her many guests are putting forth. Are psychics, spirit guides, and talking to the dead really okay? Are autistic non-speakers actually spiritual savants whom we should learn from and follow to help save the world? Is Dickens paving the way for a peaceful loving future—or is something else going on here?

The Aquarian Conspiracy

I knew almost nothing about The Telepathy Tapes until I read Mark Baker’s book. It is both a biblical examination of The Telepathy Tapes as well as a practical manual on spiritual discernment. And what I quickly realized as I read his book was that Ky Dickens was now spearheading the nearly fifty-year effort by New Age leaders to shift the world from a materialist and biblical worldview to an occult/New Age worldview. Whether Dickens is aware of it or not, The Telepathy Tapes is really just a podcast version of Marilyn Ferguson’s 1980 classic New Age book—The Aquarian Conspiracy. In fact, Dickens’ series could easily have been titled The Aquarian Conspiracy 2.0.

In The Aquarian Conspiracy, Ferguson publicly calls for a “paradigm shift”6 to an occult/New Age worldview. In her series, Ky Dickens is also calling for a “paradigm shift” to what is, in effect, an occult/New Age worldview. Ferguson’s New Age declaration back in 1980 was—“Ready or not, here we come.” Today, Dickens and her Telepathy Tapes are declaring—“Ready or not, here we are!”

Ferguson and Dickens both call for a “paradigm shift” that is based on what they claim to be new scientific and spiritual discoveries. Yet these new discoveries are really just the old occult. Ferguson said for these discoveries to become “what everybody knows,” they would have to be “widely communicated.” They would have to become “our new consensus.” She wrote:

If these discoveries of transformation are to become our common heritage for the first time in history, they must be widely communicated. They must become our new consensus, “what everybody knows.”7

And for the last five decades, Ferguson’s hidden-in-plain-sight “conspiracy” has been widely communicated by countless New Age proponents—most particularly Oprah Winfrey. In fact, a 1987 Oprah program titled “The New Age Movement” featured Marilyn Ferguson and her book, The Aquarian Conspiracy. The show went out to millions of viewers as Oprah echoed Ferguson’s New Age contention that we are all divine—because we all have a Divine Self—a “God within.”8 Oprah said:

Jesus did not come to teach us how divine he was. But came to teach us there is divinity within us.9

After listening to The Telepathy Tapes myself, it was easy to see how Marilyn Ferguson’s New Age mantle has been effectively passed on to Ky Dickens. The Telepathy Tapes has already been “widely communicated” and is in the process of becoming “what everybody knows.” Dickens’ upcoming film presenting autistic non-speakers as spiritual savants is sure to gain even more attention as it makes its way into theaters, film festivals, and people’s homes.

Autistic Non-Speakers

The Telepathy Tapes first appeared on YouTube in September 2024. Presently, there are two complete seasons. The first season has ten episodes and the second season has eleven. In addition, there are a number of supplemental “Talk Tracks” and several “Bonus Episodes.” In his book, Mark Baker succinctly presents what Ky Dickens is telling everyone about autistic non-speakers and their presumed “spiritual gifts.” Baker paraphrases what she is basically saying:

If you think the non-speaking autistic young person in your life has the mind of a small child, you are likely wrong. Chances are that there is a fully aware and highly intelligent individual inside who is also highly informed and highly evolved spiritually, far more than the rest of us. Unfortunately, he or she has been treated as a two-year old their whole life, as no one has believed in these non-speaking children.

However, we at The Telepathy Tapes certainly believe them. More importantly, these kids need you to believe in them, and in what they are trying to teach all of us. Why do you need to believe? Because so much of the future of humanity depends on you trusting in these kids and believing the messages they are proclaiming.

More specifically, an untold number of non-speaking autistic children have supernatural abilities, quite literally. It is suggested (at least by the kids themselves) that all of them have these unique paranormal or psychic capabilities. In fact, these extraordinary abilities are frequently referred to as “spiritual gifts”—particularly at the beginning of each episode. These gifts include things like telepathy, hence the name of the podcast.10

Through the use of spelling boards, and usually with the help of a facilitator, autistic non-speakers appear to be reporting their active involvement in a variety of occult/New Age practices. Yet The Telepathy Tapes seem to justify these occult activities by making them look normal and perfectly acceptable. Mark Baker lists a number of these controversial practices: telepathy, clairvoyance, astral projection, mysticism, collective consciousness, necromancy, spiritualism, mediumship, spiritual evolution, and divination.11

Objective Documentary?

While The Telepathy Tapes is presented as a documentary, it is anything but objective. In Testing the Telepathy Tapes, Mark Baker notes how Dickens contradicts herself about not having an agenda. In Season 1, Episode 9, she seems to earnestly state:

My only objective is to give a platform to voiceless people who are often not listened to or believed or supported. And this is why when the non-speakers talk of certain things, even though it’s hard for me to even share some of them because I so desperately don’t want to be perceived as having an agenda.12

Baker writes, “While it is not wrong to have one or more agendas, it is misleading, wrong, and even harmful to say otherwise.”13 He then quotes Dickens contradicting herself just moments later in that same episode about not having an agenda:

And the mission of the show is really to prove that our paradigm is wrong, that there’s more happening than we realize, and that more amazingly, the non-speakers can really validate, if not prove these claims.14

Note: Speaking of agendas, neuropsychiatrist/New Age sympathizer Dr. Diane Hennacy Powell (aka Dr. Diane Hennacy) was featured throughout the first episode of the first season of The Telepathy Tapes. Her extensive but controversial “research” with autistic non-speakers is what first inspired Ky Dickens to create The Telepathy Tapes in the first place.15 While Powell’s impressive academic credentials are made very clear to podcast listeners, there is no disclosure made of her strong New Age leanings.

On her own website, Powell describes herself as “a student of ancient wisdom traditions.”16 This is really just another way of saying “a student of the occult and the New Age.” In her 2009 book The ESP Enigma: The Scientific Case for Psychic Phenomena, she frequently cites the late psychic/medium/necromancer Edgar Cayce as a legitimate authority on spiritual phenomena.17

On March 20, 2026, Powell was a featured speaker at a huge New Age conference in Sedona, Arizona.18 She spoke alongside a host of psychics, mystical energy healers, and a man who was allegedly channeling an alien entity from the future named “Bashar.” Powell’s presentation effectively told those attending that everything they were doing as New Agers was being validated by her “research” regarding autistic non-speakers. Thus, it was really no surprise when Ky Dickens opened the second season of the Powell-inspired Telepathy Tapes with three very New Age guests.

Selected New Age Guests

Eben Alexander
The second season’s very first episode featured Eben Alexander, author of The New York Times best-seller, Proof of Heaven. He tells Telepathy Tapes listeners that he emerged from his alleged near-death experience believing there is a “pure oneness”19 in the universe. That a “God force”20 interpenetrates all of creation. In other words, we are all “One” because God is “in” everyone and everything. However, this is pure occult, pure New Age teaching.

Soon after his near-death experience, Alexander became involved with the occultic Monroe Institute in Faber, Virginia. It was Monroe’s Gateway Voyage program that taught Alexander how to mystically meditate and leave his body to help him simulate his previous near-death experience.21 The Institute’s website invites everyone to “Join the Global Paradigm Shift.”22

Note: Some years ago, the Monroe Gateway program was seriously studied by the CIA. A declassified report states that a primary CIA goal that surfaced from their involvement with Gateway was “to remove the stigma” of the “occult connotations” associated with astral projection and to place it more in the realm of physical science. In the words of the CIA, their goal was:

. . . [to] construct a scientifically valid and reasonably lucid model of how consciousness functions [in order to put] out-of-body states into the language of physical science to remove the stigma of its occult connotations.23

And that is exactly what Ky Dickens and The Telepathy Tapes are doing with their astrally projecting autistic non-speakers. They are weaving the alleged out-of-body experiences of Eben Alexander together with the reputed reports of autistic non-speakers in order to “remove the stigma” and “occult connotations” that have always been associated with out-of-body experiences (OBEs). Another example of Ky Dickens’ effort to remove the stigma and the occult connotations of New Age practices, is seen in the controversial area of psychic mediumship.

Laura Lynne Jackson
In Season 2, Episode 2, and in a separate Bonus Episode, Dickens continues her effort to normalize the occult practices that are allegedly being practiced by the autistic non-speakers. In these particular episodes, the subjects are telepathy, psychic mind reading, and talking with the dead.

Totally ignoring the controversy surrounding these practices, Dickens introduces best-selling New Age author Laura Lynne Jackson as “one of America’s most vetted”24 “world-class famous medium[s].”25 This flattering, over-the-top welcome gave Jackson’s mediumship and talking with the dead an immediate and undeserved air of respectability. Dickens even visits Jackson’s home and interviews her family in what seems to be an obvious effort to show listeners just how “normal” Jackson’s occult activities are.

By weaving in the reports of autistic non-speakers who are reputed telepaths, psychics, and necromancers who talk with the dead, Dickens continues her effort to “remove the stigma” and the “occult connotations” regarding these dangerous practices. The Bible expressly warns us not to practice any form of divination or to interact with the dead in any way. Scripture does not refer to these occult practices as “spiritual gifts,” but rather in no uncertain terms as literal “abominations” (Deuteronomy 18:9-12).

Note: Dickens ignores or is apparently unaware of the Bible’s account of the Philippian psychic who lost her ability to do psychic readings when the apostle Paul cast a “spirit of divination” out of her in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 16:16-19). And it was Jesus Himself who clearly stated that no one will be sent from the dead to tell anybody anything (Luke 16:19-31).

Elizabeth Gilbert
In Season 2, Episode 3, Ky Dickens welcomed Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love. In her best-selling New Age memoir, Gilbert describes how a four-month stay at her Indian guru’s ashram helped to further solidify her New Age belief system. She tells her over twelve million readers that “we are all one, and divinity abides within us all equally.”26 Repeating her guru’s signature mantra, she writes, “God dwells within you, as you.”27

In this episode of The Telepathy Tapes with Gilbert, people are encouraged to recognize there are ideas and messages floating around in the airwaves looking for a place to land—for someone to recognize them and download them into their life.28 In her upbeat exhortation, there is no mention made of the seducing spirits that float around in those same airwaves, waiting to deceive anyone who mistakenly falls for their deceitful ideas, messages, dreams, and visions.

Deepak Chopra
One of The Telepathy Tapes’ many “Talk Tracks” features Deepak Chopra, a long-time key figure in the New Age movement. Dickens gives him immediate validation by referring to him as the “legendary” Deepak Chopra.29 Over the years, Chopra has authored a number of best-selling New Age books and has spoken at New Age conferences around the world. He was instrumental in popularizing Transcendental Meditation (TM), along with a host of other pseudo-scientific New Age healing practices.

Note: Regarding Chopra and telepathy, a 2026 article in the San Diego Union Tribune revealed that Deepak Chopra was involved in facilitating a $50,000 donation30 from his longtime friend, Jeffrey Epstein, to help fund a telepathy research project at UC San Diego. It seemed that Epstein had a special interest in telepathy and other psychic activities. Based on some of the more recently released Epstein files, the New York Post reported:

New Age guru Deepak Chopra discussed weird science experiments with Jeffrey—including tests on telepathy in autistic kids and clairvoyant reactions to “erotic/violent” images.

E-mails released by the Justice Department show the disgraced financier regularly spoke to the Ageless Body, Timeless Mind author [Chopra], as well as other researchers interested in psychic abilities.31

In featuring New Age figures like Eben Alexander, Laura Lynne Jackson, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Deepak Chopra, Ky Dickens is clearly telegraphing where her desired “paradigm shift” is heading—straight into a sanitized and destigmatized New Age movement methodically stripped of its occult connotations.

Although there has been no real mention of Jesus in the first two seasons of The Telepathy Tapes, many autistic non-speakers have reputedly seen, met, and worshiped him. And it is being reported that the “Jesus” they encountered looks just like the famous “Jesus” portrait painted in 2002 by an eight-year-old girl named Akiane Kramarik.

Heaven is for Real & Akiane Kramarik

In the fall of 2025, I wrote a booklet titled Heavenly Visions of Jesus or “Lying Signs and Wonders” of a False New Age Christ?. In it, I took a close look at the near-death experience of young Colton Burpo as described in his father’s best-selling book Heaven is for Real. In the book, Pastor Todd Burpo describes how his son allegedly met and talked with “Jesus” in Heaven. He goes on to explain that of all the many pictures of Jesus that his son was shown after his near-death experience, there was only one that Colton said got it “right.”32 It was painted by a young girl named Akiane Kramarik.

Akiane’s Prince of Peace portrait is a stunning picture of the “Jesus” she claimed to have met and telepathically conversed with in her many mystical dreams and visions. Because Colton identified Akiane’s “Jesus” as the one he met in Heaven, her portrait was dramatically featured in both the Heaven is for Real book and movie. In the book, Pastor Burpo, speaking for his wife and himself, described the impact Colton’s recognition of Akiane’s “Jesus” had on the both of them:

Knowing how many pictures Colton had rejected, Sonja and I finally felt that in Akiane’s portrait, we’d seen the face of Jesus. Or at least a startling likeness.33

But Colton’s father worried that others who met “Jesus” in their own near-death experience might describe the “Jesus” they met differently. But this was not the case. In a church interview posted on YouTube, he explained:

I anticipated all kinds of people to contact me and say, well I saw Jesus, I went to heaven, and he didn’t look like that. I’ve had zero people do that. What, thirteen million copies later, I’ve had thousands of people say that’s exactly what he looks like.34

Best-selling near-death experience author and pastor, John Burke, in a 2025 interview with Akiane in Marble Falls, Texas, similarly reported how “many” of the near-death experiencers he has researched have also testified that the “Jesus” they met looked just like Akiane’s portrait of “Jesus.”35

Akiane’s “Jesus”

Akiane Kramarik is now 31, and she reports that her Prince of Peace portrait of “Jesus” has been seen by over a “billion” people on her “gallery” website alone.36 And over these last 23 years, after countless media interviews and tours in the US and abroad, her portrait of “Jesus” is now the go-to picture of “Jesus” around the world. Prints of her painting can be purchased on Amazon, and they hang in people’s homes everywhere.

However, there is an irreconcilable problem with Akiane’s “Jesus.” Akiane claims to be a Christian, but the spiritual beliefs that were impressed upon Akiane by her “Jesus,” and posted on her gallery website, are distinctly New Age:

Relationship with our Selves is our relationship with our Universe. . . .

This world rarely meets our expectations, and our forgetfulness of our Divine Self and purpose for us is a true mystery. . . .

Comprehending the significance of our living here forms peace and assurance of our oneness with everyone, the conviction that we are all part of that collective puzzle, part of one and the same Spirit, part of The Divinity, part of each and every one we will meet today. . . .

We are all One.37 (emphasis added)

What Akiane posted are the foundational teachings of the New Age movement. What becomes immediately apparent is that Akiane’s “Jesus” is not the true Jesus Christ of the Bible. Her “Jesus” is a false New Age Christ who impressed Akiane with his false New Age teachings. He is who the true Jesus Christ warned us to watch out for (Matthew 24:3-5).

Akiane’s dreams and visions were false dreams and false visions. But how was a young child supposed to know that what she experienced was a false dream or false vision? How was she supposed to know the “Jesus” she saw and talked with was a spiritual impostor?

Akiane’s “Jesus” and the Autistic Children

John Burke, the pastor who interviewed Akiane in Texas, recently interviewed Scottsdale, Arizona pastor/lawyer Joseph Infranco.38 Along with Diane Hennacy Powell and Ky Dickens, Infranco has become a popular and prominent voice for non-speaking autistic spellers. He was interviewed by Dickens in Season 1, Episode 7 of The Telepathy Tapes. And while Dickens has not mentioned anything about Akiane in her first two seasons, Infranco told Burke that “a number”39 of autistic non-speakers are identifying Akiane’s “Jesus” as the “Jesus” they have personally seen and met and conversed with.

In the interview, Infranco described how non-speaking autistic spellers communicate by reading each other’s minds. He described how they often leave their bodies to meet and worship “Jesus” at a kind of out-of-body telepathic chat room they call “The Hill.” Infranco explained:

They worship on The Hill. They worship God. They worship Jesus. . . . They all see him.40

I’ve seen two things from it again that overlap with NDEs [near-death experiences] because I really think this is the way to understand The Telepathy Tapes. The things that overlap is some number of them have seen Jesus. . . . And I’ll ask them, “How did you know it was Jesus?”[they say] You just know, they know it’s Jesus. . . . There’s no mistaking it.41

Burke readily agreed from his own experience with the near-death experiencers who had reportedly seen “Jesus.” He said, “That’s what they say. You don’t have any doubt in your mind at all.”42 But sadly, their comments are extremely naive—especially for two pastors who should know better. Their response falls completely short of the Bible’s admonition to be spiritually discerning (Acts 17:11) and to test the spirits (1 John 4:1-3). However, for the autistic non-speakers or anyone else to just “know” it’s Jesus is not what a lawyer, like Infranco, would ever introduce as evidence into a court of law.

At one point, Burke asks Infranco if any of the non-speakers have ever seen Akiane’s portrait of “Jesus.” Infranco answers:

I’ve shown a number of them paintings and asked which is the most lifelike, and the one that gets picked the most is Akiane’s Prince of Peace.43

These sightings of Akiane’s “Jesus” were further confirmed when Infranco was interviewed by the mother of an autistic non-speaking son. In the interview that was posted on YouTube, she stated that her son, Noah, had identified Akiane’s “Jesus” as the “Jesus” that frequently visited him in his room at night.44 Infranco was not surprised. He said he had worked with “many” autistic spellers who had also met with “Jesus” and that Akiane’s “Jesus” was “the one nearly all of them identify” as the “Jesus” they saw.45

In his book Decoding Cody, Infranco described how Cody, the autistic son of longtime friends, was one of those who had picked Akiane’s Prince of Peace portrait from a pile of “Jesus” pictures as best representing the “Jesus” he met and worshiped on “The Hill.”46 Infranco also described a woman at his church who had visions of “Jesus” just like Akiane’s. Regarding the “Jesus” she met, she stated:

If you want an accurate picture of what He looks like, the best representation that I’ve ever seen is a painting called Prince of Peace by Akiane Kramarik. . . . She was given visions a lot like mine.47

“Another Jesus”

Akiane’s “Jesus” is what the Bible describes as “another Jesus” who has “another spirit” and brings “another gospel” (2 Corinthians 11:4). And it is Akiane’s “Jesus,” with his false New Age gospel of “Oneness,” who is being deceptively interjected into people’s dreams and visions by seducing spirits:

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. (1 Timothy 4:1)

The true Jesus Christ warns us not to be deceived by the “great signs and wonders” that often accompany false prophets and false Christs (Matthew 24:3-5, 11, 24). The prophet Jeremiah warns us not to be deceived by false dreams (Jeremiah 23:32). Ezekiel warns about false visions (Ezekiel 13:7). However, all of these scriptural warnings are to no avail if people don’t care enough to read the Bible and take heed of what it says.

Telepathically Delivered New Age Teachings

Akiane was deceived by the counterfeit Jesus she met and telepathically connected with in her mystical dreams and visions. When my wife and I were in the New Age, we followed a set of false New Age teachings that were telepathically delivered to a Columbia University professor in New York City named Helen Schucman. These teachings were later compiled into a three-volume set of books published in 1975 as A Course in Miracles. It was our New Age “Bible.” It was reputedly “new revelation” from “Jesus” and emphasized the need for a “shift” in one’s spiritual thinking—just like the “paradigm shift” called for by Marilyn Ferguson and Ky Dickens. This false “Jesus” taught us what he later taught Akiane about “Oneness,” the Divine Self, and the “God within.” That same false “Jesus” also taught us to deny the victory the real Jesus Christ won on the Cross of Calvary. This false New Age “Jesus” said:

The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself. There is no separation between man and God.48

The oneness of the creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power.49

A slain Christ has no meaning.50

The journey to the cross should be the last useless journey.51

Do not make the pathetic error of clinging to the old rugged cross.52

We believed this New Age “Jesus” and his Oneness teachings until a series of dramatic events showed us how deceived we were.53 We learned that the telepathic voice that spoke to Helen Schucman and purported to be Jesus, was not the true Jesus Christ. We came to understand that we do not have a “Divine Self” or a “God within” who is “in” everyone and everything.” We learned that Scripture tells us:

For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. (Galatians 6:3)

[V]erily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.” (Psalm 39:5)

[T]hou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God. (Ezekiel 28:2)

In these, and many other verses, the Bible teaches that only God is divine and we are not. We are made in the image of God, but we are not a part of God in any way. Rather, we are sinners, saved by the grace of God when we confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in our hearts that He died on the Cross for our sins; that He rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and now sits on the right hand of God; and that He gives eternal life to those who believe in Him and put their trust in Him (Ephesians 2:8, Romans 10:9, John 3:16, Colossians 3:1-4).

The Coming False Christ

Colton Burpo, along with thousands of other near-death experiencers, a growing number of autistic non-speakers, and countless others around the world have already met Akiane’s false “Jesus” in their own personal dreams, visions, and near-death experiences. It would not be surprising if many of the Muslims who have reputedly seen Jesus in their dreams will soon be reporting that their Jesus also looks just like Akiane’s “Jesus.”

One might argue there is no way that so many people could all be so deceived. However, the Bible absolutely refutes this argument. It warns that Antichrist is definitely coming and that “all nations” will be deceived by him and his “sorceries” (Revelation 18:23). What we are witnessing today is how sorceries, like those brought forth in The Telepathy Tapes, have been deceptively normalized and legitimized by New Age sympathizers like Diane Hennacy Powell and Ky Dickens. Jesus refers to Antichrist as “the abomination of desolation” (Matthew 24:15). Daniel, in speaking of the Antichrist, said that he will “destroy wonderfully” and “by peace shall destroy many” (Daniel 8:24-25). With many people describing The Telepathy Tapes as “wonderful,” the prophet Jeremiah warns that “A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land. . . . and my people love to have it so” (Jeremiah 5:30-31).

What If?

What if a man looking exactly like Akiane’s “Jesus” was suddenly standing before a battery of microphones and television cameras in Jerusalem? What if he announces that he is “Jesus” and has returned to help save the world? What if most of the people watching instantly recognize him as Akiane’s “Jesus”—the “Jesus” she explicitly portrayed in her Prince of Peace portrait? What if this “Jesus” tells everyone he has come to “set all things right?” What if he states that he and his gospel have been seriously misunderstood? What if he explains that he has come to clear up the confusion and to declare the true gospel—the God “in” everyone and everything “Oneness” gospel that will unite all religions and bring peace to the world?

Note: Before this “What if” scenario is too quickly dismissed, think about the following: For billions of people, this false “Jesus” would seem to be stepping right out of Akiane’s painting and into their hearts and homes. For most people, Akiane’s “Jesus” would mistakenly be seen as the true Jesus, not as the false “Jesus” he really is. More than ever before, the world is ripe for this deception.

The Temptation Tapes

The Telepathy Tapes could also be described as The Temptation Tapes. They are tempting everyone to accept a number of occult practices as people move unknowingly into the spiritual arena of the false New Age Christ. By seeming to normalize occult activities through its autistic non-speakers, The Telepathy Tapes are saying—these autistic non-speakers are doing all of these spiritual things—and so can you! In fact, The Telepathy Tapes are almost screaming that you, too, can be telepathic. You, too, can be a psychic, a channeler, have an out-of-body experience, and talk with the dead. But what people are not being told is that those who give in to these temptations are opening themselves up to spiritual deception and a world of evil.

Going After Other Gods

Mark Baker’s Testing the Telepathy Tapes ends with a very important quote from the Bible’s book of Deuteronomy. It warns us to beware of prophets, dreamers, and other figures—like near-death experiencers and autistic non-speakers—who suddenly arise with great signs and wonders. Yet they tell us to follow after other gods—or “another Jesus”—like Akiane’s “Jesus” (Deuteronomy 13:1-4).

The question should always be: Is what I am reading, watching, or listening to biblical or not?

What the Dickens? What the Devil?

Given all the occult things that Ky Dickens is trying to normalize through her autistic non-speakers, I thought that “what the dickens is going on” was an appropriate subtitle for this booklet. I was curious as to the origin of that phrase and discovered it had nothing to do with the famous English author Charles Dickens. I learned that the word “dickens” was related to the word “devilkins” meaning “devilish.” It was explained that “what the dickens” is a euphemism and just a nicer way of saying “what the Devil.”54 Thus, the question we should all be asking about Ky Dickens and her Telepathy Tapes is not so much “what the dickens is going on?”—but rather “what the Devil is going on?”

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)
