Roger Oakland in Kenya: “I have never heard a group of pastors so hungry for the truth.”

November 15, 2011

My first full day in Kenya was a full one. After having breakfast at the hotel we headed off to a meeting hall somewhere in Kisimu where a number of local pastors gathered to hear me speak. After hearing them introduce themselves and their zeal for Jesus Christ and His Word I decided to change the topic that I had prepared. While I thought I was only to speak for an hour the meeting was extended much longer than that. Before we were done everyone who was in attendance had something to say and I was asked to speak longer and address the topic of apostasy that was taking place in Kenya.

It is fair to say that most of the pastors pleaded with me to come back and share for a longer period of time. I have never heard a group of pastors so hungry for the truth. When I told them about the apostasy that was unfolding in the U.S.A. and Canada they were very upset. “Please come back to speak to us again,” several said. We don’t want to be deceived in these Last Days by the devil.

It was hard to leave such an enthusiastic group. However we had a four or five hour drive before us along the shores of Lake Victoria to our next stop, _______. There were places on this trip where the road was so bad our driver actually drove in the ditch. It was questionable if the ditch was any better. I tried to think if I had ever had an experience that would compare with this road trip.

When we arrived at the hotel where I am staying  there were a number of Pastor Achilla’s church members who were there to greet us. All of them welcomed me as if they had known me all of their lives. They know me through reading Faith Undone and watching some of our DVD’s on the Emerging Church.

The Greeting Committee

In the evening we had a gathering at Pastor Achilla’s home and discussed the plans for the next few days that I will be in the area. The pastors and church leaders that I met with have tremendous insight into what is going on in the world and the church. It was amazing for me to see how the Internet has disseminated information around the world and that how such a small amount of light can make such a large difference in a dark place.

I am very encouraged to have had the opportunity to come on this trip. While we are lied about, slandered and threatened by those we loved and worked with in North America in the past because we tried to warn them to wake up and see the apostasy they were embracing, God has removed us from them and opened new doors where poor people are willing to hear the truth.
