Because of my quoting of Paul Proctor’s recent column, I want to link to his latest statement (see below) on the Miss California/Family Values issue. When I have backtracked, apologized for or corrected something I’ve written, I appreciate it when others acknowledge it. I want to do the same for Paul. A public apology
It is now being reported by MSNBC that semi-nude photos of Carrie Prejean, reigning Miss California USA and 1st runner-up in the recent Miss USA Pageant, have been posted on various websites around the Internet. According to the report, Miss Prejean does not deny their legitimacy, but instead admits that the photos in question were taken of her as a teenager and were released “surreptitiously†to a tabloid publication.
In two recent commentaries, both of which have now been pulled at my request, I expressed gratitude for her vocal support of traditional marriage after she was questioned onstage at the Miss USA Pageant by a homosexual judge regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage.
However, in light of these new developments, I can no longer defend Miss Prejean in spite of the courageous stand she took at the pageant. Furthermore, I must issue a public apology to my readers–especially those who emailed me objecting to my support of her.
I was wrong.
I was wrong about Miss California and I was wrong to criticize those who discerned what I did not. For this, I am truly sorry, and ask both your prayers and forgiveness as I endeavor to learn from this embarrassing mistake. Click here to Paul’s statement.
