Lighthouse Trails is pleased to announce the arrival of two new books!
Book #1: The Truth Set Us Free: Twenty-three Former Nuns Tell Their Stories
Lighthouse Trails is excited to release the third edition of this book. It was first published in 1997 by Winepress and then in 2010 by Solid Ground Christian Books. It eventually went out of print, and last year we were contacted by Mary Hertel who compiled the stories (and is herself a former nun) asking if we would like to publish a new edition of the book. We have known about the book for a number of years and immediately said yes. This book is evangelistic to Catholics and inspiring and exhorting Christian believers.

Description:
Twenty-three remarkable and intensely personal testimonies of former Roman Catholic nuns each who wanted to become a “bride of Christ” as a means of living a devoted life to God in His service.
But in the midst of each woman’s servitude to God was an inner turmoil and emptiness that created an overwhelming spiritual void. The stories span England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, the United States, South America, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada, while each revealing a religious system that could not fulfill the longing for God’s peace and assurance of salvation.
The stories are of women, some of whom spent decades within the structure of the Catholic Church, who eventually took hold of the promises of God’s Word such as, “Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
The message these former nuns carry is as relevant today as it was when they lived it. Their search is every man’s search. Twenty-three very different stories, yet with biblical cohesiveness, present the only way that sets a person free and brings him or her out of darkness and into the light—through faith, not in themselves or their works but in the completed work of Jesus Christ.

Book #2: Sold Out (A True Story): Preserved for God’s Purposes – in Torture, Trafficking, and Terror
When Lighthouse Trails was recently sent a copy of a book titled Sold Out by African-born (1999) Gabriel Abraham Singbeh, we were deeply affected and moved by the book. After reaching out to some who knew him well (some who happened to be Lighthouse Trails readers) to learn more, we were very compelled to carry this book and make it available to our readers. It’s not just an incredible (and at times shocking) story, it also introduces us to a young Christian man who has suffered so much but is totally committed to serving the Lord with a special burden for today’s young people. Though Gabriel is just 23 years old, he has gone through more than most will in their lifetimes, and yet what stands out in his story is not about someone who sees himself as a victim but rather as one who longs to be used of the Lord.

Excerpt From Book (photo of Gabriel on right):

Excerpt: “The sun burnt our bodies and dust filled our eyes, nose, ears, and even mouth if you mistakenly opened it. During the day, the temperature ranged from 86 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, it dropped below freezing and could be very windy. It takes the grace of God to survive here. Many do not make it to their destination alive. The human bones, skulls, and dead bodies that I saw lying in the desert was evidence of this. In fact, I saw two men shot because they would not comply with the driver. Their bodies were left behind in the desert too. Killing is something most of these Arabs consider a way to please Allah, their god, helping them earn their way to heaven. This brought more fear to me because it was my first time to see such a sight. I remember Elisha trying to cover my eyes with his hands so I could not see what was going on, but one of the rebels beat his head with the edge of his firearm. I became even more fearful. I thought, if this happened to those men, it might happen to me. I was the youngest in the car, and very weak. Elisha was deeply worried about me falling to the ground and being left to die. All I could think of was to hold onto my stick as instructed—and pray.”
